I love this game, it's so unusual, and very cute. The recipes are like little mini-games and you can do one or two, or large chunks of cooking. You can practice before you cook for points, and can make new recipes while you're cooking, and unlock new ones. The foods are all very unique.
Great practice for young cooks...

While my wife thought this was the stupidest thing you could buy for the DS, my child wants to do more cooking and help in the kitchen. What a great way to practice without setting fire to the house and hearth? Fortunately I was right; Cooking Mama has been used almost non-stop since it was left under the Christmas Tree. My only regret is that it doesn't come with a dictionary, so I have to answer "what does Saute' mean?" and similar questions. I admit I haven't looked myself to see if it comes with an (overlooked) dictionary, but the questions do draw me into the experience, and shows that the game builds skills based on success at the prior levels. Worth the money if you've got a budding chef in the home.

Cooking Mama is a great game for cooks of all skill levels from instant noodle munchers to iron chef wannabes. You needn't be a master in the kitchen to do well in this game, but it does require some stylus skill to be a cook in mama's kitchen.
Players are required to complete a variety of basic cooking techniques which you will have the opportunity to practice till you are ready to get started. From chopping and slicing, to wrapping and breading, mama has you you do it all.
Dishes range from salsbury steak to sushi rolls. Degree of difficulty is primarily dependent on the type of task or number of steps required to complete a dish. Some require one or two steps to a combination of several techniques. The more you play, the more dishes you unlock. Depending on how well you do, mama gives you a bronze, silver, or gold medal. However, don't get mama mad or you shall feel her wrath!
Cooking Mama is a really fun game that's extremely addicting. It's hard to stop playing. They make you really want that gold medal! The fact that you are able to see the very basics of how to make a cool looking meal is a plus. I think it's a nice intro to those afraid of culinary arts. The only thing that prevented me from giving this game a 5 is the fact that we finished it so quickly. I wish there were a lot more dishes and greater degrees of difficulty. There were alot of dishes of course, but if you get as addicted to this game as we were, those dishes aren't enough!
Fun but not much to it.

My wife and I got this game a few days ago and we are enjoying it but there isn't much to it. It is a really cute little game with cute music and fun to play but all you do is unlock new recipes each time you score high enough on existing recipes. It consists of choosing a recipe to cook and then you are timed with a series of minigames to complete each part of the cooking process beginning with anything from peeling potatoes, slicing onions, coating and frying meat, and everything else on up to arranging the food on a plate. It's a neat little distraction for a quick game. If you are looking for a game with depth and longevity, look elsewhere; however, if you are looking for a cute and quick little cooking game, then this is it.

Even though I cook a ton, I still liked this game. The graphics are bright and simple, the music is cheery, and Mama always smiles her encouraging smiles! Well, that is unless you fail, then her eyes flash to fire...but I digress...
It has wonderful "pick up and play" value and for twenty bucks, you can have a fun little game that is great mindless entertainment.
Enjoy!!
Could have done more...

Its a great use of the stylus but there could have been more to the game. They should have made it more like Trauma Center where you had to learn the steps and then memorize them and apply them to a particular situation. Instead, Cooking mama guides you through each step at a time. That would have been great for just the training mode only. It could have been so much more in depth if they laid out the ingredients and you had to remember the steps involved to prepare it.
And what about an IRON CHEF type cookoff?? Your opponent on the top screen and you on the bottom?? This game could have been so much better. Maybe in the next version!

I think that this game is really fun. The recipes are tasty (I have tried them), but the only thing is that the controls of chopping etc. are really hard in the beginning. I think they should have made it simpler, but overall, it's a very good game for a cook in training, or just for fun.
I gave this game a 4 star rating because of the controls.

Cooking Mama is really fun overall. You get to chop onions, saute them, flip burgers, and not to mention...everything else! Obviously, if you don't know how to cook, Cookinh Mama will help you out a little bit.
I wouldn't recommend it to adults, but children will find it addicting and really entertaining. It's not my favorite DS game, but definately worth 20 bucks!
Cooking Mama fun for all ages!

I'm always looking for games that appeal to girls since I have 2 daughters and 2 grandaughters. This game is alot of fun and also challenging. My grandaughters age six love it! The game is user friendly. It takes cognitive and coordination skills to play which makes it great for kids because they are using there minds and hands together to chop, dice, stir and even blow thru the microphone to cool off some foods. The end result is creating a masterpiece that looks good enogh to eat!
Fun for everyone.

Cooking Mama was really great. I got tired of it in a certain amount of time, but when I put it down and come back like a day later, I love it again! (weird.) But overall it's a fun game with "cooking" skills, and mama is pretty funny. I recommend getting this game!
