This game is amazing. From the foundation you can tell they spent a lot of time developing this game. The graphics are pronounced and amazing. The game play is heart pounding. Where else can you launch a nuke at your opponent and see it devistate his troops and base. NO WHERE! except C & C generals. This game lives up to the legacy of its predeccesor C & C red alert. If your computer is fast enough, you will not regret owning this game. GUARENTEED. ... ONLINE MULTIPLAYER BATTLES ARE WHERE THE GAME TRULY SHINES!!

Wow, I didnt expect it to be this good!

Let me start from the beginning. I am a huge strategy game fan. I have played dozens of strategy games before C&C Generals. Examples would be Myth I, II, III, Warcraft I, II, III, C&C series, Starcraft, and other games I no longer remember. Out of all the games that I have played, I would place Command and Conquer Generals among the top. I have to warn you however, it takes time to get into CCG. When I started the game I was very disappointed. You have to play Generals for a while to appreciate its complexity and intricacy. Overall, the biggest joy of this game comes from the multiplayer experience. Try playing someone as good as you and you will know what I mean. There is so much micromanagment and so many tactist that I can hardly break away from the action. Before playing C&C Generals I was hooked on Warcraft III. I played WIII almost everyday, but when I tried Generals I lost interest in WIII almost in a second. I recommend everyone who has C&C Generals to try and play online. It is one of the most exciting games to be played against human opponents.

Good start...but bad finish

I purchased this game as I love playing the C&C games. I was impressed with the graphics, but the storyline falls completely short of mediocre. The amount of CPU power needed to play this game is demanding, so only get this if you have a really good machine (more than a 2.4ghz) and a great Video Card. Overall, the game is o.k.; I would wait for the price to drop before buying.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh! This game is so cool. I just got it a few days ago and could not be more pleased. The graphics are incredible as well as the sound effects. I would like to stop the rumors that you need a relly fast computer to play. I have an 800 Mhz CPU with 256 MB of RAM and the game runs almost flawlessly. You do need to have a graphics card supporting DirectX 8.1 or higher though. I was a little skeptical about the changes in play from older versions, but they don't make it any less fun. This is a great buy for all players of strategy games.

do you favor realism or excitement?

To be totally honest, this game looks great, has some good music, and has units that are both familiar and new, keeping it interesting. If only it didn't take as long as a real war...

Unless your PC is fully loaded and ultra-fast, this game is likely to keep you twiddling your thumbs for a good deal of the time. When a skirmish actually occurs between units, the level of detail in the violence is fun (i.e., people getting tossed across the screen, explosions..) but they are slow. Gone is the fast and fun gameplay of Red Alert 2, which was largely 2D but much more exciting.

There is an utter lack of story, and no cinematic fun between missions like in Red Alert 2. There is a vague and impressive but pretentious opening cinematic.

Those looking for a realistic RTS in full 3D mode and have a computer that can support quick gameplay will probably not miss the cinematics, but the freshness and originality of RA 2 is gone, and this seems more like a (sucessful) technical excercise

Graphics don't make the game, but in this case, they do.

This game is one of the best games I've had the luck to play.

But when I first got the game, my computer could run it all on low graphics, without too much loss in the gameplay department,
but after awhile, the graphics started getting deppressingly sad: if you can't even enjoy nucular explosions then whats the point?

So I just stopped playing altogether because the graphics made me blue.

One summer later, I downloaded an NVidia chip upgrade for my machine, and now the game looks great!
The great graphics add SO dang much to this game it's amazing!
Just playing with the 3D shadows turned on adds an extra 300 degrees to the game.

Only buy this game if you're computer is a good 5 times better then the minimum system requirements. My PC is only six months old and I have to play at an 800x600x16 resolution.
But at least I get to enjoy the shadows.

Best Bang for the Buck

This is an excellent game. Networking and Solo play are great. Bottom line is you need a good Video card 4X agp is good 8x agp would be better. This game will feed off everything you got. If you got the right stuff i recommend it.

Great continuation of the legacy

I own and have extensively played the whole Command and Conquer series save Cover Operations Mission disc for the original. Generals is quite simply an excellent game that has continued to keep me interested in the series well beyond most gaming series. The graphics are above average, especially given my beafy system, and the sound effects to go with the game are on the same level as the original Red Alert. The interface, even though it moved from side bar to the bottom, is just as easy to navigate if not easier than before.
Unit variety amongst the three sides makes for an excellent balance in the game while forcing you to devise new strategies to combat the different sides depending on which side you play on. Unlike most games of the genre, unit variety is not the same unit with a different color and look to it. The units are unique enough to allow different combinations and highlight the major differences technologically and strategically that each side has.
My only complaint is the lack of a navy. The animation of the water is superb, some of the best I have seen, but there is no navy to complement the presence of the water. The expansion, which is on its way to my house, still has not addressed this hole in the game; hopefully future versions of the series do not make the same mistake by eliminating the navy. All in all, a superb game that is a better complete work than most of its competitors and offers tremendous replayability that is hard to rival.

I agree with the top dude

I have played all the RTS games but warcraft, and i found that this game requires an amount of interest to be put into it.
Like all RTS games there is unlimited amount of ways the game can end up. this is a game id recomend to all poeple i know.

Cautionary note

This is a great game for multiplayer, the only one of this game series that I've actually gotten into as much as my friends. I just want to add to the warnings of others that this game really, really, wants a high end system for highest visual quality of play and faster game speeds. My old 1GHz Athlon cpu with a geforce 2 graphics card and a gig of ram runs fairly slowly at all but the lowest visual settings. So watch out if you have an older graphics card like I do.
