The game I am writing a new fiction in a line dating back to 1996, and this game revolves around the events currently happening. This is Command and Conquer Generals, three sides go to war. these are China, the United State, and a terrorist group called the Global Liberation Army try to takeover the world. It sounds like the events of today in a game.
This game has EXCELLENT graphics (which shows what multi-Gigahertz procesors and 128 bit Graphics cards are for,) great gameplay, except for the easy artificial intelligence compared to other great games such as Starcraft, which was probably the best RTS ever made, Command and Conquer, and Warcraft 3. The realistic storyline is a great change from the previous games( such as Red Alert Yuri's Revenge, ect.) A great soundtrack is included, a "general" system lets you recieve different abilities and commands to use. I highly recommend this game:)

Too all of you who hate Generals, go buy Praetorians, thats good, or Warcraft 3 The Frozen Throne when it comes out in June.

GENERALS RULES (but Starcraft does too...)

A Real Time Strategy Game that needs some Strategy

If this was the first Command and Conquer game I had ever played, then I would probably rate it higher.

However, I played the first Command and Conquer and for all intents and purposes this latest incarnation of the C&C series suffers from the same faults as the first.

-----------

In summary:

The Good:

- The graphics look quite pretty, including explosions, missile launches, etc.

- It's pretty easy to control and pick up if you have played any other real time strategy game.

The Bad:

- The game plays much similar to the original C&C. You forage for resources, build bases and fight a war of attrition against enemies. There is no real strategy involved.

- It becomes simply a race to get special weapons and hardware and from then on you wipe the floor with your opponents. Or alternatively they arrive at your doorstep when you are vulnerable and you get annihilated.

- Some of your vehicles can stand idle while enemies fire on them and they won't respond unless you intervene.

- All the opposing sides are basically similar. They all build bases, amass troops and go over to the enemy camp to try to damage the opponent.
The development of the terrorist/guerrilla-type faction the GLA could have been interesting, but like their opponents, they are tied to fixed permanent bases.

- One of the most horrible features of the C&C series comes when you have amassed enough troops and firepower to cripple your enemy and you take the huge amount of soldiers and vehicles over to the enemy camp.
You crush the enemy but because one single enemy storehouse or powerstation still exists somewhere on the map, you have to spend 20 minutes searching it out to destroy it before scoring a victory.

- All in all the AI does not appear to have made any significant advances and the game becomes very same-ish after a few plays.

------------

Having not played a C&C title for some years, this one was a disappointment.
Admittedly I haven't played the Zero Hour expansion pack, but I think C&C needs to make a big jump forward to keep pace with the progress of other RTS games and this wasn't it.

C&C series is a must have for Real time strategy game players

I have been playing C&C since the first one came out in 1995 and had never got tired of playing this game. The only thing that can make me leave a C&C Game is a New C&C game. What makes great this games is not the graphics or movies, what makes it great is the always fun gameplay.

Your computer needs a Generals ability to play this!!!!

Woo hoo!!! I originally bought this game and played on my P4 - 1.6Ghz, 512 MB Ram, 32 MB Video Memory and was quite disappointed. The game was quite slow and I had to go to the lowest graphical settings to be able to get the game to bearable playing standards. Then I went out and bought a ATI Radeon 9200 128MB video card. It was like I bought a whole new machine. I can feel my eyes getting fatter with all the eye candy. And I was able to go to all high resolutions.
The game itself is fairly decent fair (if you've played one C&C, you've played them all). Of course, besides the graphics, there are some other differences to this game with other C&C titles. But I think with any of them, the multiplayer is where having different titles makes to break the monotony of playing the same game over and over again. Just compare watching the nuke between Red Alert 2 and Generals. WOW!!!!

Looks Spectacular But Doesn't Deliver

The game looks and plays very well, but it offers nothing for a story, and only 7 missions per campaign? I was expecting the same quality that the earlier C&C games had. I just hope the expansion has more to it...

Addictive fun.

The much hyped and highly anticipated Command and Conquer Generals has arrived. I've always been sceptical of games that are surrounded by a lot of hype and anticipation. The game designers usually try to please everyone and the resulting game is typically a mixed bag of goods. The newest entry in the Command and Conquer universe certainly is a mixed bag, but in this instance that's a good thing.

Generals takes the C & C series in a new direction. Both the GDI and NOD are gone. So too are those full motion video(FMV)cut scenes. Instead we have three playable factions, cut scenes that utilize the game engine and a very weak plot.

THE STORY:
The game pits the USA and CHINA against a terrorist group known as the GLA(Global Liberation Army). The game begins with a bang as the GLA execute a surprise attack on the Chinese and begin their campaign to free the world from oppression. The opening cut scene is dramatic. This is due in no small part to the voice acting.

THE FACTIONS:
EA games have done a good job with the three sides in this game. The factions feel and play just a little differently from each other. The Americans have expensive technologically advanced units. The Chinese use sheer numbers to overwhelm the enemy and are backed up by solid air defences. The GLA have no air force, don't rely on power and have powerful(not to mention annoying)mobile air defences.

GRAPHICS:
Generals is the most visually impressive Command and Conquer game to date. Now fully three dimensional, the command and Conquer world never looked so good. Those stunning graphics have a price attached in terms of the system requirements needed for the game. If you want to run this game in all its glory you'll need a pretty decent system to do so. My computer has a GeForce2 MX video card with 64mb of memory and 512 mb of ram. Generals runs quite well on my machine(after I turned a few things off)and still manages to look good.

THE GAMEPLAY:
Addictive. Simply addictive. The game provides a few more options than your typical real time strategy game. Defensive players could quickly find themselves out gunned by more aggressive players. Early rushers may encounter problems as well. Since no one unit will win the game for you amassing a horde of one type of unit is pointless and often fatal.

THE NUTSHELL:
Simply put Command and Conquer Generals is a fun game, however it may not be for everyone. The GLA use car bombs and chemical weapons to advance their agenda and in the post September 11th world this undoubtly will not sit well with some gamers. I suspect the game developers realised this, hence the rather weak plot and one-dimensional villains. Any attempt to give the GLA any more life than they have now could have doomed the game.

That's a real shame because I think the game could have been so much better if the GLA had a little more depth. Don't let negative reviews turn you away from what is essentially a fun game.

Very pleased

I have been a fan of Westwood Studios' Command & Conquer series since it first debuted in 95. I must say that I continue to grow as a fan. The graphics are incredible as you can now rotate the angle 360 degrees as well as zoom in & out to examine the high detail that each unit possesses. Great for LAN party team games!!

Minor balancing problems can be overcome by creativity

Several friends and I own this game and after playing it fairly frequently (I play as the USA), and the only complaints my friends have is that the USA is a bit overpowered, and I'm inclined to agree. However, the best part of the game is figuring out how to get around that balancing issue, and we've played many good games, and I've lost many good games, to their new strategies. It's a great game that really makes you come up with creative strategies to win (hint - as GLA, destroy USA oil derricks and you've already won). And the stellar graphics don't hurt, either. Don't believe the lies that only a top of the line gamer's rig can run this, either - my P4 1.8 laptop runs it very well. Highly recommended!
