A Good Game . . . With a Major Flaw

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 5 / 5

My young child enjoys this game very much. There is no real plot or quest to the game. You simply spend your time collecting objects, completing tasks, or going fishing. It is relaxing, non-frustrating, and entertaining. A word of caution, though, if your young child is sensitive to criticism - if you do not save the game exactly the way described, or if your system is accidentally turned off without saving, when you play next you are confronted by a mole-like character that serves no purpose but to hurl insults at the player, calling them stupid for not saving properly. To me this is over the line and very nearly ruins the game in my opinion. Children today have enough to worry about without having to deal with the anxiety induced by a video-game bully. Older children, of course, will merely laugh off this character's insults, but for very young children I give this one three stars. A shame, it could have easily been five. I have no idea what the developers of this game were thinking.

There are Pros and Cons, but overall a great DS game

I have played A.C. Wild World for two hours already, and here are some of my pros and cons on it:
PROS:
1. Use of the stylus is highly recommended. It makes the gameplay much faster and easier, especially with moving your character through the village, typing letters to neighbors and designing clothes.
2. After digging up a fossil, you can take it directly to Blathers at the Museum to have it examined. Unlike the GCN version, you have to mail it to the museum for inspection, and then take it to Blathers to donate to the museum! Huge improvement!
3. There are many new features in Wild World (i.e. bonus points tracker at Nook's Cranny Shop - check it out!, and of course the Wi-Fi connection, plus many others)
4. More fruit on trees means more $$!!

CONS:
1. Slower processing when the character enters or exits from a place...you'll see what I mean.
2. The graphics and sound aren't comparable to GCN, but what do you expect? Duh! So that's not really a big issue.

Overall, I give this game 4 stars. I have spent endless hours on the GCN version, so I feel so far like I'm starting over from scratch on the DS version. I may get bored with it sooner than I think, but to someone who has never tried this game, I suggest you do so because there's always something new and exciting happening in Animal Crossing!

Great Game

I got this game a few days ago and had never ever played the first(just wanted the 1st one). This game is great since you can slowly do things wiothout taking up most of your day, do a little here, a little there. So here's my look on the game.

First of all, this could be played by anyone above the age of 7(of course any age if your risking them having a DS). Even though young kids can play this, adults enjoy this too.

You basically start out with nothing, come up with the your name, town name, male/female... etc You finally get to the city and work for Nook for a while(i guess like the 1st one?). Once you finish you can do whatever. <-Best part!

I love the multiplayer here! I play with my bro on it all the time. All you do is one open the gate and the other(s) go visit you. They can't do certain things while at your town(ie Donate, pay morgage) but any basics things can still be done. I have not tried this out online because you have to know someone and have their friend code. With so much hassle of the Wifi stuff, might be easier to go to the friend's house since you can't play with anyone other than friends.

Well this game has made me play it several hours a day since I got it, so i bet most people will enjoy this. If you are thinking of a game to get for someone for Crhistmas, get this game or Mario Kart DS. Both are great and addicting games.

35 years old and love this game!!!!!

My son & I love to play together using the Wi-Fi feature. This is a great game for parents to play with their kids and I find myself playing it by myself after he's gone to bed.

My biggest frustrations so far is that 2 of the town stores close down at 11pm and you can't do certain things when you have a visitor in your town (donate to the museum, design a clothing pattern) otherwise, I love this game!!!!

the best game i have; everything you need to know

okay one thing is that this game is like the originle animal crossing and its also diffrent!

same:
-you still have to work for nook
-you have to work the same jobs
-you have to pay the same dept

diffrent:
(there is alot of them but ill put my favorite changes)
-tom nook gets a PTA, were when you buy items youll get points and when you reach a certain amount youll get a present
-when you help the animals you can acually use what they are giving to you to delivere
-there is a cafe to buy cofee once a day
-there is hats and glasses and now mable is selling the shirts and also buying them
-when a new mover comes their house has alot of boxes cause they just moved in!
-the animals send real letters like 'thanks for that letter' or 'i am doing this' no more of 'i dont understand you'! its really better!

there is also alot of missing things:
-no human holidays like christmas, holloween ect.
-you cant ask the animals to help them! they have to ask you to help them!
-there is no cops just gate keepers
-and some more i cant remember

in other words, this game is really good but its also good to have the gamecube version! but have fun!

ps: if you have a trouble finding it like me, than try eb games!

First time player of Animal Crossing DS (indeed any Animal Crossing)

This is my first Animal Crossing game I have ever played, and I though I would give an idea of my initial experiences over 3 days. I got this during Christmas, imported (since I live in the UK). I fell in love with the music when I switched it on. Fantastic crystal clear surround sound. At least the quality of anything they ever did on the SNES in terms of synth instruments.

After I played with it at first by making a new character and going to my town - that seemed by the map to be quite empty since there was about 5 houses and 5 official buildings, I was a little disappointed. I was expecting to be able to interact within my own house by moving the bed etc, running around shaking trees for peaches which I could drop in the bedroom, before going back to start my job paying off my mortgage. However it has to be said the graphics and textures in particular are at least as good as Mario Kart DS, at times similar in style, and the town exploys a nice horizon idea where everything up north starts to disappear below the horizon the more you go south, and upper screen is the sky.

I left the game for about a week, then I started playing it properly. This started by me returning to it around 6PM on that day and experimenting with the idea of dropping and manipulating stuff in the living room instead, because surely Nintendo wouldn't let me go to the bedroom, pick up and sell the bed which is my Save point or the Phone which is my options screen now would they? Aha, so it IS interactive, and it WILL let me be creative, anywhere BUT the bedroom which is sort of like my save/options screen which makes sense.

At that point I then went back to Tom Nook my land lord and explored the town properly, because he asked me to meet all his customers, everyone in town. I visited everyone, who looks unique, quirky and distinctive in a super-deformed style. I ran along the beach, collected some shells, wondered where I could get a rod to fish or maybe a shovel to dig up those tell tale holes of what surely must be treasure in the ground! I went around shaking trees, did errands for Tom Nook, even planting trees and doing deliveries, eventually he let me off, because his backlog of work was done.

Now I was FREE! I ran around the town, doing more things like shaking trees for money bags and peaches, collecting shells, and selling them at the shop for money to pay my mortgage. Huh, it was probably 8PM now, where did the time go. Eventually I had enough money to pay for it, and did so, at which point Tom Nook offered to make my house bigger (but he didn't mention the fact I'd have to pay again for a bigger loan until after he completed it the sly raccoon!) and that he was shutting down in 2 days to expand his shop.

I started moving around the village with my newly bought fishing pole and shovel, casting my line so it would drift down with the flow to where the various and varied fish were etc, dug up rare fossils and seeds, of which there are a HUGE amount, just like with the items. Which from the mail order catalogue alone in the revamped shop 2 days later suggests there are for instance 63 styles of floor at that point in the game (perhaps more can be unlocked or are secret/rare), of which all can be customised by your very own designs, 562 furniture items (!) ranging from diving suits to a red boom box, a metal guitar to a round cactus, and in fact some of these items were given to me as gifts by the other residents.

I went to the cafe below the museum, drank coffee, listened to the beautiful piano music there, went to the top and discovered an observatory, made some funny constellations 'Batwing', 'the Whale', an 'Ursa Minor' that looked more like a donkey haha than a small bear. The night time was coming, it was perhaps getting to almost 10 o'clock. I ran out did some more fishing, met the residents, of which some were getting to bed, others were nocturnal like me. I have to say this game OOZES CHARM, it's so endearing when a little mouse called Limberg comes up and says, 'Hey squinky!.. we gotta have a secret catchphrase... for good friends like us... whaddaya say squinky?'. And then from that point onwards whenever he meets me he calls me 'bucket pants' (which I made up on the spot), and for some reason lately also 'A-rock!' (because my name is Asta and I rock? I have no idea where this name came from ha), 'Hey bucket pants stop there! I got a favour to ask of you. Ya interested A-rock?'. They all have their own signature tunes when starting a conversation, different personalities, they even ask pop questions for instant prizes, answer one question and guess right for a prize.

When the clock hit 10 PM, the music changed (as it did at 12 midnight, yeah I was still playing until 3am(!)) to a beautiful peaceful theme, amazing music that set the mood, I noticed the constellations I had drawn earlier between stars in the night sky, talked to more animals, they were funny, coming out with completely new stuff everytime, not like a RPG where the same villager repeats the same old phrase non stop. They talked about the town, what they liked, what I liked, about our friendship, gossiped whether other residents like Yuka and Limberg were more than just friends, and what I thought (replies can be multiple choice or even from a sliding scale of 'yes there is more than friendship there' to 'nah they are just good friends!'), as well as other topics, nothing was EVER repeated, and this is saying this a week later perhaps.

After midnight the music changed again, the shops had closed at 11 PM, I ran around chatting and doing treasure hunting/gathering, residents actually seek you out sometimes when you are nearby, perhaps they have a request or gift or need your opinion on something. The music changed again at 2 to a slumbering sort of tune quite apt, and eventually I switched off and went to bed.

The next day I noticed a new house on the map housing a frog like resident near the beach. The day after a new house again near the town hall with another new resident of the town. Also there are mysterious people who pop up now and then, like Redd the blackmarket furniture seller and his secret password guarded tent, his friend who sells insurance and took it really personal when I said yes but had no money on me (fumed like mad, smoke was rising and it looked like he buried his head in my face saying I wasted his time) which was hilarious, even Dr Sprunk the psychologist.

Between the changing seasons and times - and various events for these, the different characters of the residents, and what appears to be a pattern of newly settling residents coming in every other day to turn the town into a bustling centre of activity, even if the collecting of stuff ever gets boring in a few months (as though I could collect EVERYTHING - there's so many items), the residents of the growing town itself are the real gem here. Funny, sad, friendly, angry they have it all, they bring a game like this to a level that feels more than just a game. Highly recommended, I haven't played a game that felt so fun and infused with humour and warmth, even from just watching the residents, for a long, long time.

Great, fun game

I loved this game and couldn't put it down once I got it. I have always enjoyed fishing in real life, making this game more fun. If you love the idea of having a fantasy life in your game system, Animal Crossing is for you.

Great bordem buster!

There are tons of things to do in ACWW(animal crossing wild world). You can catch bugs, design your house, chat with the nieghbors, fish, dig for fossils and so much more! Yeah I know I sound like a ad. When I orderd this game I prepared myself for a dissipiontment(just in case). But I was pleasently surprised! I have had this game for a little over a month and I still love it. It is great for when you are bored. Anybody over 8 would probably be able to figure it out, but it is fun for older kids too. I myself am turning twelve. There are lots of differnt fish and bugs. When you catch all the fish you get a golden fishing pole, and when you get catch all of the bugs you get a golden net. Lots of characters come to vist your town like Redd(he sells forged paintings),Katrina(the fortune teller), and a number of other characters. On your birthday your nieghbors will bake you a cake and give you presents. And there a many holidays such as the Bug-off. La-di-Day, and there is a flea market the first Saturday of every other month. Overall I think animal crossing is a very fun and entertaing game that is well worth the money. Here's a hint you can hit a random rock in your town once a day and bells(bells are ACWW money) will come out. And if you shoot down 15 presents with your slingshot you will get a golden slingshot(which fires three stones instead of 1). You should check out animalxing.com for lots of tips and help.

This game is a huge laugh, I have had it for about a year and everyday is an adventure, with the town's residents or visitors. Using the DS's brilliant online service, players can meet other players online, exchange a friend code and meet each other and play. Wether your in Japan or the UK, 'theres always someone to play'.

not for night owls.

I definitely got a serious slap in the face that this is a kids game and not meant for adults when it told me all the shops were closed and shouldn't I be in bed?
It was 11pm.

sigh.
