let me say this, if you enjoyed Call fo Duty for the PC then this is a must have. it adds over 10 new single player missions and 3 new multiplayer MODES. the multiplayer on the original was great and this is going to add 3 new modes and over 10 new maps. this game also has great mods which are free and add a lot more conent to a game. i say this is definatley a must have!

Please not another UT2004....

I've been looking at the info for this game and I can say they're definately trying to mimic UT2004 multiplay. I mean, look at the new modes... Capture The Flag, Base Assault and Domination. Does this not sound like UT to you? And how do these modes fit into a game like Call of Duty?? Modes like Search & Destroy and Retrieval are more creative and make you feel more like a part of WWII. I also heard that they're going to make the guns more accurate and have a higher rate of fire... if so, less skill will be involved, closing the gap between noobs and real players. I don't know about the vehicles yet, but I'm pretty certain that it's just another idea snagged from UT.

Call of the Expansion pack

Call of Duty was a fast paced, realistic, World War II shooter which was successful because of it's unique look and feel: the shell shock, the bullets whizzing by and the ability to fight as differnt people on differnet fronts. No game has ever done that. Also, the squad based action made you feel compasion for the men fighting alongside you, fighting together, it was so different to medal of honor. So if you want another dose of the action buy the expansion pack with 10 more single player levels and new and improved multiplayer maps and scenarios. Buy this game and remember; in war no one fights alone...

Not as good as the Original but still good!!!

United Offensive is a good Expansion. There is a lot of recycled events that occur in the expansions single player version that did in the original. Also the single player is kind of easy and I have not found it much of a challenge and kind of short. Over all the single player is still fun. What really makes this expansion shine, just like the oringal Call of Duty is the Multiplayer. There are new maps and lots more fun online. The multiplayer is 10 times better then Battlefield 1942. Even though the expansion is not the greatest game it's still worth getting because it's a worthy addition to this great WWII series.

Disappointingly SHORT!!!!!!!

All reviews before 9/16/2004 are worthless!

1ST of all, I don't know who these people are that post reviews before the game is even released but they should be completely ignored!!! Ego maniacs and know nothings wanting to prove they could do a review first I guess.

Basically, this is the same game you have come to love - COD but with new missions. Nothing is really mind blowing or must have about this expansion pack.

I bought this game on the 9/17/2004 at COMPUSA, installed it at 11PM on the 18th and within 4 hours on the 19th, I have finished the expansion pack.

I really feel ripped off. $30 down the tubes almost.

The missions are almost the same as before, infantry, blowing things up, driving a tank but some of the new battles are VERY fierce and challenging. You also get to play as a bomber gunner. There are some new weapons but nothing amazing. The flame thrower is cool but you really never get enough ammo or get the chance to use it under the right circumstances - like flushing out a bunker!!

The AI is the same. The graphics are the same. The mood/atmosphere is the same.
The missions are still VERY scripted. Your men will not move forward until you do, they get in the way and will not move and block your shots still! The tanks won't go forward until you take heavy machine guns out...even though the tanks should provide infantry with firepower!!!

Is this worth playing? YES. Is it worth $30.....barely.
I would have paid $50 if they had made it longer and more in depth. Why not? The engine is already developed, the bulk of the work is done, now all you have to do is build the levels. I mean...I was done in 4 hours, on the Veteran difficulty setting!!! If I had to choose between spending my money on DOOM 3 or this, I would choose COD:UO. DOOM 3 is scary and edgy...and that is all. After the first level or so, scary gets old and you start looking for a good gameplay. COD:UO might be short but atleast it was thrilling.

Great expansion so far, and that's just the multiplayer ver!

I just got this this weekend, and launched right into multiplayer games, since this is the real strength of this game. So far, it's awesome! The addition of tanks, jeeps, tank destroyers makes battles more dynamic. This is fast approaching the quality of combat simulation we used in the army! The best thing is that there are enough tanks for everybody...no one is waiting around for one to spawn like in BF1942. Same for anti-tank rocket systems as well, which balances the use of tanks. The infantry can defeat tanks with well-placed rocket shots from behind bushes which demonstrates the need for tank-infantry combined arms tactics (just like real life!).
Additionally, the expansion pack fixes every deficiency the previous version had - allowing for cook-off of grenades, allowing you to sprint short distances (to cover/concealed positions).
The multiplayer game is supposed to have flamethrowers as well, but I haven't seen them yet.
The best part is this all still runs on my 800mhz 4 year-old Dell. BF Vietnam reduces my PC to a crawl.

The best WW2 similator out there now!

I agree with everybody about the multiplayer in the game. It is simply awesome! First of all the original C of D multiplayer was simply awesome and in this game it's even better here's why:

Now you can drive tanks or be the machine gunner on top just like BF1942 but driving and shooting is a lot more fun! The tanks have more fire power than BF1942 and you can shot quicker it seems?

There is now deployable machine guns in this game. I have found they are great if you can find a good place with a view to set up and mowe down anyone going by but just running around on the maps and looking for people to shot can be inefective to say the least because if you do spot someone they have the advantage because they can just aim and shot you but you have to right-click to set up the gun then load in most cases and then left-click to fire so by the time you do all this your dead from a Thompson gun carring soldier.

You can also shoot anti-tank weapons like a American Bazooka or the German's copy of the weapon. Which leaves tanks very vulnarable for destruction. You can also fire canons at tanks, buildings and soldiers which is fun. In all reality this is BF1942 all over again but 10X better. You can drive Jeeps to. The only thing you can't drive in the game is Airplanes but this is a ground combat game and besides BF1942 can have thier planes because even if you got one off the ground you couldn't hit anything due to going to fast or stay in the air very long without crashing into something because the controls were to hard!

As mentioned by a previous reviewer, flame throwers were added and if you want to find one you will most likely have to kill the guy who is carring one. I did on the Berlin map. So make note of that.

All and all, this game is awesome. Single player is in my persective is a lot harder unlike what another reviewer said. He must be some ex-millitary guy or something because I found it very challenging especially the first battle in the game. I am currently on the second mission and have no ammo in the middle of a fire fight and that's not good! Yes, single player is th e same thing as the original but why change something that's already great? Just add some new weapons and different maps and battles and go with it. I think people expect to much out of games especially expansion packs. If the orginal game was a success then the expansion must be ten times better..............wrong! You guys need to live in reality. There is nothing wrong with this game at all except it being short but it's a expansion pack! Not a entire game! Come on guys get real!

Anyway, enough venting I just get tired of people wanting the moon and stars to boot out of games. Oviously they never seen the pregression of game through the years and how far they have come since the day of pong?

One last line in responce to Joel's review. Joel, I had the same problem with my single player in fact I couldn't even get the game installed on my PC because of a missing game file so I returned the game to EB and got a new one and it works like a charm now! I don't know if that's what you will have to do but make sure you install the (1.4) patch for the game or it won't run at all which is the latest patch version out right now.

Here I come Star Wars Battlefront! I heard this game was great!

See you on the UO battlefield! Latter....

Great Online Play - not been able to play single person

I loved the first COD and looked forward to this expansion pack. Unfortunately I have been getting an error when trying play the single person and it will not work. I check their website and they have a fix but it would require me reinstall both programs and not use all the multiplayer maps I have installed. I will wait for a patch.

On the other hand the multiplayer maps are awsome. The new wepons are great and the tank are easy to drive and very powerfull. The good news even with the tanks it's a well balance game play. Some of the map are very large and some are small with no tanks. The good news it always easy to find an available tank.

I brought this game primary for the multiplayer maps, but disappointed that the single player doesn't work. I hope they find a solution soon. I would rate the multiplayer a 5! I will hold off on rating the single person.

Ut 2004? I think not!

First of all Ut2004 copied of of bf1942 so pay no attention to the guy down there (waaaay down there).
Secondly the multiplayer ROCKS. The addition of vehichles, the ability to cook off grenades, and the new maps really add to the multiplayer expierience.
The single player, like the original Call of Duty, Is split into three campaigns, the americans, the british, and the russian campaigns.
The british campaign follows the story of a british soldier in a bomber. You have to man the guns on the plane but you also have to put out
engine fires and and take the place of your slain teamates.
The American campaign is mainly about the Battle of the Bulge. You basically have to fight in
trenches and buildings while bazookaing tanks.
The Russian campaign follows
the plight of a Russian conscript drafted to fight in the battle of Kursk while it can't quite live up to the original's Stalingrad it comes pretty
darn close In how it makes you feel a sense of hopelessness as you battle your way through the trees.
Some people are complaigning that United Offensive's single player is just like the
original's which I think is a good thing I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it right?

I think that united offensive is a GREAT expansion pack to an already great game. Kudos to Gray Matter for creating a worthy follow up to Infinity Wards epic.

I have been playing FPS for years and this series is by far one of the best ones I have ever played. I dont even mind that the graphics arent up to par with the other games out there.
