Half-Life: Counter-Strike

This is problably the best Half Life MOD/add-on ever made. In this online only version, you get to play either as terrorists or counter-terrorists on four scenarios. In the hostage rescue scenario (cs maps) The terrorists are sopposed to guard the hostages and prevent counter-terrorists from extracting them. In Bomb/Defuse maps (de maps) the terrorists are to plant the bomb at a certain "bomb zone", while counter-terrorists guards it or defuses it when it is planted. On escape maps (es maps) terrorist team starts at a strongpoint and they escape together. Once half of the terrorists escape, their team wins. The counter-terrorists try their best to shoot them before they escape. Last but not least are the Assassination maps (as maps). The VIP on the counter-terrorist team must escape to a designated zone. The counter-terror teammate must protect him at all costs or they will lose. The terrorists job is to try their best to kill him. Unlike other online first person shooters, this game lets you buy weapons and equipment. However it does not allow you to gain health from first aid kits, nor does it allow you to respawn until the end of the round. Spray a few rounds and he's gone. The weapons has a wide range of damage amount you can do. Depending on the weapon, a 9mm pistol often takes more than half of a clip's worth of bullets. Serious though 1 9mm pistol bullet can kill in real life! A rifle like the awp, for example can frag a player when you hit anywhere above the waist. The game is based on many real life weapons. Because of its' high accuraccy and damage, the M4 rifle is my favorite weapon.
Counter-Strike has long waiting times if in case you die. It also takes time getting used to. At first I had to admit that I really a newbie. My aim was terrible, I was getting shot at all the time and I don't know where do take cover. Then, I found out my biggest problem was that my holding down of the trigger did not make me hit anything. You have to really try your best to fire in bursts. A lot of the FPS are like that. It's about 3 times more recoil in guns than in other games. I focused on my tactics of hitting and hiding and good teamwork. Teamwork is one of the most important aspects of the game, since its not like unreal tournament or quake 3 where you to shoot everthing that moves. A truly victorious CS team will use planning, tactics, and communication well every new round.
The graphics are not bad nor good. The graphics are basically the same as Half Life, and Half Life's graphics are very outdated, but are OK. Oh well, at least it's super smooth and isn't laggy at all, even on a low-end PC such as a Pentium 2 350 with 128 megabytes of RAM and a very low-end Nvidia Geforce 2 graphics card. The weapons have realistic sounds and same with the radio commands. The most popular maps are de_dust, de_dust 2, de_aztec, de_prodigy, cs_italy, and cs_assault, although there are a lot of custom made maps made my ordinary players. This game has a few glitches though. For example, when a player leaves its game when he's alive when other people frag him, the image shakes violently and lost its' solidness. It's like you have died and the spirit leaves but the body remaines. The gameplay and idea is what makes this game so special and addicting. If you already own half-life, you can download this MOD. Otherwise you will have to buy it. Follow my advice and BUY THIS GAME!
Ups: Extremely addicting gameplay, very smooth and no lagg at all really, realistic sound effects, and realistic weapons. Well made maps.
Downs: Outdated graphics. It can be pretty buggy sometimes, but nothing too big to worry about.
Bottom Line: This is by far the best online action game I've ever played.
If I had to give it a score on a scale from 1-100, I would give it a 96/100.

Seriously...this game is amazing...the graphics aren't the best, if you have a bad connection-it is horrible, but this game is awesome.

Never have I played a game as addiction, as fun, and challenging as this...it takes major skill and practice to get good at it.It is very difficult, because most people are damn good, but if you play enough, you'll anhiilate the compitition...

If you want a game that when you log on there is about 3000 servers online, if you really want a game that is fun as hell...this is it

worst thing about it:you need steam to play it (its a free download) but it takes up ALOT of room on your CPU if you have CS and HL on it, and a couple mods...

Counter Strike is a very excellent game, I'll give it that. The graphics are very good, and I am a big fan for the 1st person view. I'd recommend checking out some screen shots and seeing if you like them or can get used to them. The game itself is very good, a good assortment of weapons, the guns are evenly, as in quality, distributed to the CTs (counter terrorists) and the Ts (terrorists). The only negative part about this game is that their is no outside game other then the online gameplay. If you don't have internet (I'm guessing you do knowing that you are reading this online review) don't get this game, because all their is in the actual CD-ROM game is training. The game is very addicting, so if you would like to do something productive it's best not to get this game. However, I enjoy this and when I have time their is a good chance I'm playing the game. The keys and control are great! Especially good for computer games, I am a big fan of them, because they are easy to use and quick to catch on too. Finally, the last negative part is that their aren't too many servers for beginners, though if you play with intermediate players you get better quicker. The loading is usually relatively quick, you better check out your computer settings, graphic card, and GBs available, before you get this game. If you are looking for a good shooter game that requires a little bit of tactics and communication between teammates this is definetly a must get.

if you thought opposing force was good this is the best half life yet.you get weapons like a mp5, combat knife, m16, falcon 2,flame thrower(you have to by that) plus so much more.and it is easy to install with no errors.i hope this review was helpful to you.please click yes or no now.

I've played a lot of online first-person shooter games, and can honestly say that Counterstrike tops them all. It's just the right combination of strategy, thinking on your feet, learning to master the weapons/controls of the game, and teamplay. One of my favorite features is the voice communication with your teammates. If you have a decent sound card (full duplex to be more specific), you can speak to your teammates through your microphone. This makes for stronger teamplay, as you alert your teammates to an enemy's whereabouts or call for backup. This adds to the realism of the game -- it really makes you feel like you're part of an elite military team like the Seals, infiltrating an enemy compound.

The game never seems to get old, thanks to a strong community and an open API for writing maps. New maps pop up all the time, and the game will automatically download them from servers when they come up. There are even several online leagues where "clans" compete for glory and even cash prizes. Counterstrike is paving the way for a new generation of athlete -- the cyber-athlete!

Okay, this game has been out for a long time, and I've played it for as long as it has been out, but I now feel that my experience with this game gives me the duty to report on it's greatness. If you like games like Half Life: Team Fortress or SWAT 3, you will like CS, yet another teamwork based game. The graphics are good and the sound is great, and the control is perfect as long as you get on a nearly lag-free server.

In fact, my only major gripes with CS, have nothing to do with the actual software. 1. The "team" you play with only works when the other players cooperate, all too often, your teammates are just a bunch of Rambos who leave you all alone pinned down by a sniper and a guy with a shotgun! 2. The game gets extremely hard to play when the server you are on can't handle 8 player playing in the room, you get such a lag, it can take up to 20 seconds for your guy to finish with his last shot and slap in a new mag! A good sever can handle 32 players with very little lag. 3. This is the software; you shoot a guy point blank with a shoygun in the face, and he lives because he is wearing body armor... BODY ARMOR, not face armor! 4. You can have radio conversations with teammates, but all too often, you end up calling for backup from your TEAM, and nobody comes to help, in fact, you get some smart guys that actually reply over the radio, "Negative."

Luckily, I host games were I am a CT, (Couter-terrorist), squad leader and my friend leads the Terrorists, and if people get a little too independant or come in and lag our game too much, I can boot them. With CS, you can get into a clan and have some teammates that will stay with you , my clan is pretty good. If you get this game, and are any good, join my clan, the COLTS, (because we only use M16s).

Why would anybody pay money for this when you can buy HALF-LIFE for 20 bucks and download it for free along with hundreds of other mods. TFC and DoD are much better anyway. Save yourself the money and buy Half-Life instead.

Oh my lord (Counter-Strike, that is), I beg of you to let me frag a few cheaters with the M4A1. Ok, sorry about that. Anyway, Counter-Strike is one of those games that lets you experience real world battles with GET THIS -- REAL GUNS. Ever heard of the AK-47? Its in there. The MP5Navy? Its there too. Oh, and lets not forget the all powerful AWP Sniper Rifle Magnum. If you need something to do, or if your life is already too busy, then get off your uh.. seat.. that.. uh.. you're.. uh.. sitting.. on.. and GET THIS GAME. (...) Have fun boyz and girlz.. happy fraggin'!
