I have been playing games for 25 years, and working in the games industry for 5 yrs. I have played almost every computer and video game. But I have NEVER found a game more addictive than this. Please don't get frustrated the first time, it is a game that requires a totally different mid-set than a Quake III or even a Rainbow 6. You must use communication, your teammates, your eyes, your ears, everything. No other game gets my heart going like this one. You will know sheer adrenaline when you are the only member in your team and you must disarm a bomb and there are 3 guys out there gunning for YOU! Knowing that all of your team mates are watching after they die makes it even more exiting! GET THIS GAME RIGHT NOW, and I dare you to stop playing!

First Off, this is the best FPS in existance. The most interesting maps and a lot to do. The guns look real in the game, and you can't buy your favorite gun unless you have enough cash. To earn cash, you either have to stay alive the whoole round or kill people. I just got this game from a friend(you don't need the CD to play, Thank God) and im still a newbie. Usually its impossible to kill other people in the beginning cause they play this game 24/7. But since ive played my friends which are fairly good, i can actually shoot and kill people! My favorite level i think would either be de_rats, fy_iceworld, and de_dust. The only bad part about the game is that i had to download 100 MB of files just to update my game, which took me overnight to download cause i have 56k. But besides all the minor flaws in the game, its the best. I could probably play this game from sunset to sunrise. Well, g2g. Time to play CS!

Counter-strike thinking of getting it?

Well what I'm going to say is get it. Ok you can download offthe net which beta 7.1 download about 60.4 Mb roughly from counter-strike.net. I play it when I can :-) I used to play quake 3 and 2 on the net, but now its Counter-strike it is THE best game ever! I got the downloaded 7.1 ok but I been with the beta since it first came out it was very buggy then, but when this cd with version 1 comes out I'll down load it as well as buy the cd as well so I don't hav to update and intall all the patches I hav ok soz bear with me at the mo plz...

Being terriosts you either protect hostage, plant bombs or assaintent VIP! (Think of some one you don't like lol!) CT u resues hostage, protect VIP's, defuse bomb unless u killed all the Ts You hav your personise name there are clan out that but what ever you do DON'T CHEAT! but hopefully custom skin will be taken away to stop ainbot etc.. Pratise and you will be awarded You feel you are in the game in real time based and I'm sticking with it, going to try Hostile intent, urban warface and fire arm (Other modifactions) but counter-strike will always be tops

Half-Life: Counter Strike is a first person shooter. It does not have a single player gameplay, It is a multiplayer only online game. There are four types of games, 1. Hostage Rescue:- Players must save hostages from the terrorists, 2. Bomb / Defuse:- Place a bomb, 3. Escape:- Player must escape to a certain point alive, 4. Assasination:- A certain player is targeted. Each games have lots of maps and many realistic weapons, The map design is also very good and they last upto four minutes, But players dont respawn. Before every game players are given a certain ammount of cash to buy weapons and other inventory items of your choice. The weapons are very realistic and they also do a lot of realistic dammage, Like the head shot is very fatal and leg wound will affect your movement ect. Counter Stike is built on the quake2/half-life engine. It has the same great main menu of half-life but the graphics are quite dated today, It does not have the outdoor environment of unreal tournament or the curved textures of quake3, But compared to the other two it connects very fast, And the game runs very well and also the charecters look very real. Counter Strike is surely the best multiplayer game on the market. If you are into first person shooter multiplayer then counter strike is a must, You could also download it for free at its website if you have Half-Life.

Best online PC game to date

First off, allow me to warn you. Buy this game only if:
1. You have nothing to do day and night for months
2. do not want to see your family anymore
3. remember your job as a thing of the past
4. make TV a forgetable experience
5. Never know what is going on in the world Ever again
This is perhaps one of the most addictive games that I have ever encountered in my entire life. The game is basically a premise of Terrorists Vs. Counter-Terrorists and you play online in groups to wipe the other team out with weapons you buy when you earn money doing certain tasks such as: Killing an opponent, rescuing a hostage, or surviving through a match (Makes you a veteran in a match, which is rare, even for expert players) The retail version also comes with online versions of Team Fortress Classic and other online games. But, if you have a few months to kill. Enjoy this game and it's great amount of fun.
Note: If you think there may never be enough people to play against, there are thousands of servers always online so don't worry.

I must say, this is the best of the best

This game is the best game I have ever played. Most First-Person Shooters get boring and dull after you have played them for a while, but this game will never get boring. I have been playing Counter-Strike ever sence you could download it(that was about a years ago before sierra desided to sell it), and over that past year it hasn't gotten boring yet. There is never a dull moment. With the wide veriety of weapons that you can get and the different levels there is always a change. Also there are new levels being made all the time.

There are only a few drawbacks. (1)The game gets choppy when someone throws a smoke grenade(but with my experience of this game I have found that not many people throw smoke grenades anyway, so dont worry about it) (2)This game is extremely fast pased and it will take a while to get used to. Most games last about 3-5 min. max but you respawn after each game so dont worry about having to wait for a while after each game. If you die during the game you don't respawn, but you go into a Free Look mode where you can watch the living battling it out. (3)This game will take away all of your time if your not careful. During the day the only thing I can think about is playing this game. It is extremely addictive and you wont stop playing. The fun never stops. (4)Some players or server administraitors can be mean or vulgor, but you will learn to ignore this. You cant take it personally. I am willing to bet that you will be mad when you die.

(5)It takes a while to get good at. But that is a good thing. unlike some games that can be mastered in 30 Min. this game may take months to get good at. But when you finnaly get good at it you will feel like you have conquered the world. When you are good then you can work on killing people with style.

I totally agree that this is the best game. All of the problems I have listed are dominated by the fun you will have playing this game. But just remember, if you buy this game don't get frustrated because you aren't good just keep working on it. Practice makes perfect!

It's totally worth your money, but get half life instead

Counterstrike has taken up more of my time than any game (read: other part of my life) this past year. It's the best multiplayer time you can have, and it's even better when you have one or 2 friends to talk to and decimate the servers with.

good points: very balanced, lots of gun types, "realistic" without losing its fun value, thousands of servers (play for free) bad points: when you die, you have to wait a while (but you can watch others play, and figure out how to be better), not as graphically impressive as UT or Q3ta (but the gameplay is far better) . . . this isn't much of a list of bad points . . . sorry.

CounterStrike is definately an amazing game, but here's my suggestion: (I hope no one gets mad at me for this . . .) Buy the original half-life. Get good at it. not really good, but good. learn the physics and the handling. then download counterstrike and team fortress free from the net. Then you get HalfLife, one of the greatest single-plyer games of all time, AND counterstrike, for roughly the same price. also, when you do get around to testing your mettle, you might (thats a big might) spend a lot less time watching, and more time winning.

final thing: people get REALLY MAD playing counterstrike. Keep your cool, plz. :)

The Greatest, Most Addictive Game Ever

In terms of multiplayer gaming, things just don't get any better. Unreal Tournament, one of the greatest games ever, offers the only competition.

First of all, Counter-Strike is addictive. Maybe it's the slew of weapons at your disposal, all real-life models that real-life elite terrorist/counter-terrorist groups use. Maybe it's the intuitive maps that never grow old. Or maybe it's the fact that there's more than a dozen of them. Or maybe...hell, let me start from the top.

First of all, if you're a multiplayer gamer and haven't ever played this game, do so. What's so different about Counter-Strike (CS) is that is is by far the most realistic first-person shooter on the market. The developers kept in mind weight and accuracy when they designed this game. Hold down the trigger longer when you fire, and you become less accurate. Run while shooting, and you'll be lucky to hit anything. Crouch and your aim improves. Each weapon has its own benefits and disadvantages. Locational damage means headshots count for one-shot kills.

What I like about this game is the variation in skill. It's hard to get good at this game, and believe me, the learning curve is kinda steep. Beginners will get frustrated, but if the lure to keep playing sticks with them, they will get good fast. Teamplay in this game is crucial to winning. Radio chat messages enable you to communicate effectively with your team to accomplish mission objectives. If that fails, you can always type to your team. The game misses nothing.

I recommend this game to ANYONE who enjoys a good time fragging. What elevates this game beyond the typical fragfest is the added teamplay, which--believe it or not--is crucial to winning.

I got Counter-Strike around August 2000 or 2001. It was and still is the greatest game I have ever played. Very addicting, fun, and original.

A while back they changed Counter-Strike so now, to play it, you would need to have this program Steam. It can be a bit hard to set up, but once it's set up anybody who plays it will be addicted.

Oh and if you don't have DSL or Cable, the download times are going to be ridiculous. DSL or Cable is definitly a plus when playing.

Through Steam Counter-Strike gets updated at least once every month, so most of the time it's a fresh bug-free game. I've probably spent hundreds of hours playing this.

i HATED first person shooters before i discovered counterstrike. the level of realism sets this game far and away from the stupid shoot-em-up, fragfest games of the past. You must think and work as a team when playing, rather than just shooting at anything that moves. Damage is much more realistic, changing with armor, distance, where you get shot, what you get shot with, etc. Also, all the guns are very realistic in their looks, and how they work. The scenarios also add to the gameplay. rather than just killing the other team you can win through such feats as rescuing hostages, bombing targets, or assassinating a VIP. The levels themselves are also ultra realistic, set in a variety of places from a militia compound in a canyon to an italian village. The money system lets you buy the weapons you use, so you can't just find some amazingly powerfull god-gun lying around. Also, you die once, you're out for the round. none of this respawning crap. deffinitly worth buying, or at least downloading.
