More of the same indeed...and it's all good

It's true that CoD2 is certainly not a revolution, it's exactly what you expect from this sequel, but it's just so good.
The graphic engine has obvioulsy been improved since the first CoD, and even though it doesn't exactly compete with HL2, FEAR or Quake4, it's still a feast for the eyes.
The sounds are amazing once again, it really contributes to the intensity of the whole thing. The commands are intuitive and there is now a little bit more freedom to wander around and find different approaches to solve problems.
I agree that Activision did definitely not take a huge risk with this game, it is more of the same, and it would be interesting to see developers innovate if they really want to make a WWII game.
But I think that in the end, it's how much you enjoy it that really matters. Some people love both Brothers in Arms games, because of it's "realism". Well, when you can't even climb a 3-foot obstacle in front of you, and when you need 20 rounds to kill an enemy who's 10 feet away from you, I'm not sure that's realistic. Plus CoD2 is far, far, FAR prettier.
You won't regret buying this game.

Definitely different from the first

While the game looks relatively the same, the levels are far more intense and you are given more choices on how you want to play the game.

The levels are historically accurate and while the graphics aren't state of the art, its obvious the developers worked hard to tweak the engine to enhance the realism as there are times you really are part of a interactive historic retelling.

In closing, Call Of Duty 2 is an extremely fun as well as intelligent game that adult gamers will enjoy and its definitely worth the value.

I agree with the kid!

Come on this is not good! There is no talent into this type of gameplay! The problem with soooo mannnyyyy game designer's today is that they are not very creative! They serotype tooo muccchhh like the kid said. Yes, the allies were the good guys and yes Socialism is wrong but why do we see WW2 from the allies side? Why can't we see it from the Axis side? Or have the choice? I'm don't care about multiplayer were kiddiees run around and run and gun, bunny hop and alll that with no real tactics, heck they know nothing of the war or tactics! Go back to URT 04 or Quake! This is war and there is no bunny hoping or rambo sytle combat in war. Everyone fights together as a team in a team. The funny thing is in the UO expansion they advertised that no one fought alone yet somehow you were the only one that could kill anything as if your me were just there in the background shooting at who know what? Brother and Arms is 10 times better than this game why? You can order your men around, flake the enemy more than just one way, and your aim is not as accurte? The guy who said it was junk because he couldn't hit anything was saying he can't hit anything and he can't jump either. Maybe he was trying to high jump over a bush. Good luck!

Anyway, if you really want to be creative create a game where you can fight turn based style either side or front of the war. Maybe if they just mix the Rome Total War style with First Person battle and relisem it could be a great hit! and of course add a world map where you could move your units around being Navy, Airforce, or Marines to different locations. That would change the WW2 hum-drums totally around! You could also play different roles as a commander or a general to a grunt soilder! Different battlefields, different weapons from each side, Tanks, artillery, you name it. Genuis!

Excellent and Intelligent Game geared for ADULT gamers

Any kid under 18 will not enjoy this game because theres no state of the art graphics and theres no instant gratification. This is a simple, yet engaging game with a fairly accurate representation of World War 2.
Its also refereshing that there are still a few game developers who can grasp the fact that not everyone is willing upgrade their videocards everytime the next big game comes out.
As I sstated in my title, this game is geared for adults who don't have time to constantly upgrade their machines and who enjoy a bit of depth.
Kids wanting instant gratifcation , need NOT apply.

Fan of the First

If you are a fan of the first call of duty (which i am) you will thoroughly enjoy this sequel. Gameplay is still generally the same, but the battles are more intense. And this is not a make or break addition, but the smoke in the game looks amazing! Defeinetly a must have for fans of the series.

Excellent effort.

Call of Duty 2 makes no jump in the art of the WW2 first-person-shooter (FPS) but it is a refinement on the previous titles. If your system could play Call of Duty well you probably won't have any trouble with your hardware on this one. Graphics are better especially the smoke and the environments are the best yet in a WW2 title. Sound is outstanding for both sound-effects and voice. The human models are well done but not to the standard of Half-Life 2. AI is much improved as well.

The best new features are the missions and damage modeling. You are not tied to one path as much as in previous games. There are multiple routes and approaches to take to finish an objective although still not as free form as one would wish. One big change is that your damage/health is no longer displayed. You get red flashes and blurry vision when you are taking too many hits. Simply getting out of the line of fire for awhile will heal you. This is by far the best approach to damage/health in a FPS yet. It prevents you from being penalized for a bit of bad luck when in an area without medkits. It also eliminates the whole silly searching for medkit concept completely. If you take too many hits without a breather you will die but the game will restart at the last save. This whole approach keeps the game moving and overall has a much better feel to it. All FPS shooters should adopt this approach.

Perhaps the single best feature is that even if you do almost nothing the mission will progress. This works out very well on those few missions where you are either stuck or can't quite figure out what you have to do or, better yet, you just want to do something else. The missions are still heavily scripted which limits replay a bit but they are done in a more segmented way that allows for the mission flexibility. You can at least replay the game trying different approaches to the missions.

One minor downside to the game is the save system. You cannot make any manual saves. But the game does auto-save at key points and these are rarely a problem. Some are perhaps not quite where you would want to save but close enough. Again the system keeps you in the game and keeps things moving.

There are other issues as well: MG42s with endless ammo and no overheating. The tank missions are bit too fast moving; it is almost like flying fighters instead of tanks. Another annoyance is the three campaigns; you are forced to go in the order of Soviet, British, and American. There is also still no way to play the Germans. The game is very brief as well, maybe 20 hours or so to complete everything.

Overall while in makes no giant leaps for the genre it does make some solid advances and the overall quality makes it the best WW2 shooter yet. Anyone new to the genre will love it and veterans should appreciate it as well. The game even gives a refreshing twist on D-Day with Pointe Du Hoc missions. Recommended.

50 bucks down the tube

I recieved this game yesterday. Installed after luch, around 1 PM. By 6 PM I was watching the credits. The game was intense, I'll admit that, but I didn't pay 50 BUCKS for 6 hours of entertainments! I feel robbed! When my dad, who payed the game, came back home and asked me if I was enjoying it I had to tell him I was just starting!

If you can install and finish the thing in 6 hours then it's not worth more than 10 BUCKS!!! I would have gone to the movies!! It would have costed me a penny conpared to this!!!

50 bucks down the tube!!! I want my money back!!!

I agree with MYSELF

Well, I wasn't always a big "First Person Shooter" fan until I tried Call Of Duty (the first one) and I was hooked. I used to play the big strategy games like the other guy here is trying to sell but as far as this genre, This game rocks!! Maybe if you are 15 and daddy buys you a game, you have some inherent right to say it's terrible. Or if you have some concocted fantasy of Hollywood combat being real, then you might not like it either.

No super buzz-wammo weapons, secret powers from other planets. Just straight "In your face" combat. Its what it shows on the box... It's what you get in the game. And the LAN experience is much more fulfilling because of the upped graphics.

My only disappointment was that I wanted it bigger.. but I am completely satisfied.

Game of the year qualifier!

Call of Duty 2 is an amazing, action-packed frontline war experience. The dimensions and freedom has vastly improved over its predecessor (which I didn't enjoy). I like Call of Duty 2 better because there is less trench fighting and more gunning down, up close and personal. The sniping is also good on non-automatic guns. Though the graphics are similiar (though a little better than) MOH: Pacific Assault, they're acceptable and play well on my 3 year old computer. If you like action and/or war games this is your BEST choice.

Read! important!

OK, people say this game is too short but it is actually very long you can do one of every mission and get it done with or you do every mission in the game. this truely compeletes the game and you are not seeing half of it if you do not do this! my only complaint is there is no jeeps etc. i would like vechiles back in! but every thing else is REALLY solid the game play and graphics are better than the last game! MUST BUY!
