Fun but...

...but this should be an expansion pack for COD 1, and not a COD version 2, the fun is there and nice levels but nothing improved apart from graphics and some AI more, nothing in this COD2 justify the "2". I got more fun and brain working on COD1. At least you can have the multiplayer to get some "original" fun, nothing more justify buying this title.

It's COD but improved. The graphics are amazing. Do you remember the jump from Medal of Honor to COD this first time you played COD. This is just as big of a jump.

I could play multiplayer for hours on end. Needless to say my wife does not like the game.

If you like 1st person games or anything WWII related it's a must buy.

What could be better?

You would think that there is nothing to this game that would surpass the graphics but upon playing it you realize it is 200% more than anything you have ever expected. The level set up allows for the game to be played on many different difficulties and phases. A level is never the same a second time so therefore the gameplay experience differs each time you play.
In the single player mode you would make the mistake that you are actually playing multiplayer due to the complex and overwhelming A.I. The Germans in this game are among the "most intelligent" that I have ever played against. If they feel the battle is lost they will retreat, regroup and use the surroundings to their advantage. This makes the game more realistic than most.
Sound and graphics will speak for themself, controls are easy (as always) and the multiplayer encompasses maps from the original COD as well as the Expansion United Offensive. Lets just say I cannot wait for the expansion to COD2 and after you play it, you'll be checking for the release date as well. Good choice, great value, no regrets.

Don't fix it if it ain't broke.

Great game. Lots of fun. One of the best games out there. However, it isn't as fun as the previous release (United Offensive.) One of the most enjoyable things to do in the first two games was to find a nice safe (relatively) spot and break out the sniper rifle. Great fun to just sit back and pick off the unsuspecting Natzis one by one as quick as you could line them up. No more. Trying to snipe now is one of the most deadly of actions for you. The scope weaves and bobs to simulate "realism" unless you hold your breath, but this takes a beat and looking through your sniper scope instantly makes you target#1 for every Natzi out there no matter what kind of concealment you might have. The result is that sniping isn't fun anymore, it's almost a chore. You are more effective just looking down the sites of a regular weapon.
The "save game" system sucks. Once more, an "improvement" makes the game more of a chore than it should be in some places forcing you to play long sections of the game over and over until you stumble upon the "correct" way to get to the next save point.
Only two episodes where you get to man a vehicle (a tank) and these are pretty simplistic and over quicly.
An actual improvement, in my opinion, is the new damage system. You can still die if you get tagged but can recover if you survive the initial damage and can get to a safe spot quickly. This is much better than hunting around for stupid little green boxes and keeps the game flowing smoother. Manning an Mg44 is no longer quite such a suicidal action; just duck until you recover and then get right back to mowin' em down!
Overall, this is still a great game but unfathomably, it has been "improved" into being a little closer to mediocre?? Worth buying and extremely fun to play but why did they fix parts that weren't broke?

Call of Duty 2--Intense

Ah, the old World War II combat simulator. As there are so many, reviewing is often strict to the max. However strict grading may be, though, Call of Duty 2 really deserves a mention. There are three main campaigns, Russian, British, and American. Sprinkled in through the game are several cinematic moments, following the Half-Life cutscene-in-game scheme. The gameplay is very intense and raw, especially with the extraordinary sound and graphics. The background is very realistic, and I've yet to see more realistic smoke. By far, the most intense is the American campaign, especially with Hill 400. The British campaign has the vehicle moments, as well as a fair amount of downtime, and the Russian campaign probably has the most "wow" moments (i.e. cowering in a trench while German tanks thunder above your head, or the less exciting using potatoes as grenades). As good as the game may be, there are problems. I found the tank missions (only 2 of them) to be too short and too fast. Also the health, in where you may get hit twenty or so consecutive times, and then blood seeps into the screen, and you hear yourself panting. In five seconds, if you remain unhit, you regenerate all your health. Though it remedies the annoyance of searching for health packs and getting killed in a place without them, you have to admit that health regeneration is not the most realistic portrayal. It's offset, however, by the rest of the positive things, and the fact that they chose other battles rather than Omaha Beach and the like. So hats off, and remember, "Aim down your sights, Vassili, you'll be more accurate that way!"

Bigger, Better, and Madder than CoD One.

A great game for point and click first person shooters on the PC. A big improvement over Call of Duty One. Lots more units to fight; (Sometimes unlimited amounts). This game is not based on the real WWII experience; you will find yourself killing way more troops than you would in a real life. Game play is fast. Its controls are simple... new "climb over" control makes it easier to move around. There are a good number of missions.

If you like to complete a campaign over and over with different levels of difficultly, then the single player is for you. In multiplayer action, there are a few servers with 10-30 people active. I was disappointed that you could not use any tanks or vehicles in the multiplayer areas. The kill cam is nice, to see how you get shot from the other player's point of view. The graphics are average.

Call of Duty II is a very good and fun game, and I spent hours playing it, but the only reason I couldn't give it five stars was because I liked the original call of duty and the expansion pack, call of duty united offensive, much better. Call of Duty II changed some of the graphics and the gameplay, so it just doesn't feel right after I've been playing the original for two years. The multiplayer seems to have gotten harder or something, because on the original, I can pretty much match the skills of all the other players, except the noobs of course. But on Call of Duty II's multiplayer, I've gotten killed so many times that I've stopped trying. I just play my United Offensive expansion multiplayer now because it just feels better and sometimes seems much more realistic. It's a fun game to play, but if you've ever played the original Call of Duty before, you might want to stick with that unless you want to have a whole now experience.

Polished but slightly worn.

I dearly loved the original Call of Duty as well as its expansion pack. Call of Duty 2 takes its predecessor, turns graphics and intensity up to 11, dials back the user interface to make it more console-friendly, and sticks you in the war.
The gameplay is excellent stuff, standard WWII FPS fare in all respects, with hordes of enemies and many weapons. My one an only beef is the (console-driven) reliance on save points; it is absolutely impossible for the player to save their progress, because all the saving is handled by the game. This is a terrible idea in my opinion as it forced me to spend many more game hours fighting my way through some intensely difficult situations over and over again instead of saving my progress as I do in other, "proper" FPSes.
Oh well. You'll find sniping missions, tank missions, antitank missions, the whole gamut. Finally getting to play in North Africa is a treat.
This is enjoyable stuff. Just keep your patience about you and be ready to play some sequences over, and over, and over.

50 bucks down the tube

I recieved this game yesterday. Installed after luch, around 1 PM. By 6 PM I was watching the credits. The game was intense, I'll admit that, but I didn't pay 50 BUCKS for 6 hours of entertainments! I feel robbed! When my dad, who payed the game, came back home and asked me if I was enjoying it I had to tell him I was just starting!

If you can install and finish the thing in 6 hours then it's not worth more than 10 BUCKS!!! I would have gone to the movies!! It would have costed me a penny conpared to this!!!

50 bucks down the tube!!! I want my money back!!!
