This game is really fun! I play it all the time! I usually(Always) play multiplayer, but single player is fun too! So buy this game. Oh, yeah! It has good graphics and all that stuff! Wow! so buy this game if you want to but if you don't, that's cool too.

A total failure

I think I expected too much out of Call of Duty 2. I expected it to be playable. Sorry Activision but this game was a total flop. It is completely ridculous to have to have something more than a 256 MB nVidia 6800 and more than 2 GBs of Ram to play it a resolution greater than 1024x768. This game wasn't only a complete failure on the graphical front, but also on the fun front. It was a complete chore to play through the first few levels. What a waste of $50. Save it and buy something that is fun, like Call of Duty 1, Battlefield 2, or any of the other FPS games which are semi-decent.

It's fun and educational

Face it...CoD2 has to be the best game before Cod3
the firefights at Pointe Duhoc. The sound of Panzershrecks blowing up tanks.and even that multiplayer.
But there's something missing... Yeah it's that you can't sprint or drive a tank or jeep.So to get the joyriding in a jeep.Buy CoDUO or wait till Cod4 comes out.I've heard it is an expansion pack. And here's a German line.
HEIL BRATWURST!

Best of the best. A must own.

So how do I start things off? Well, the game has VERY great graphics. But you will need a top of the line PC for this. It needs 256 RAM but the recommended amount is 512.

Graphics 10000/5 Looks exactly like the XBOX360 version
Plot 3/5 Just an ordinary WWII plot. Kill Nazis
Controls 5/5 just like the first but no health bar.
Overall.... 100000000000/5 Must own.

Advice: Don't listen to the people who say the graphics suck. They don't know jack $#!t.

I haven't played the multi-player yet, so this is my review of the single-player portion of the game.

The developer promised more freedom to develop tactics than in the first game, where everything was on rails, and the appearance of every individual enemy soldier and ally ran off a script. In some of the missions in the first game, you literally could not budge off a single "track" that was often just a few yards wide.

The new game does have a few missions where you can slip around an enemy to flank, but it's really not that different. There are still doors that are just part of the wall, that you cannot open; low walls and barbed wire (and even bushes!) you cannot cross. In a few of the maps your choice is "flank left, flank right, or straight on ahead"... the enemies still are scripted and the big "events" in the mission take place on the same old triggers (shoot bad guy X, walk over ground spot Y). In many cases, progressing in the mission involves a door suddenly opening that you couldn't open before, giving you access to a new track. These sorts of limitations kept ruining the immersion factor for me.

The improvements in enemy AI weren't that impressive. Now the enemies take cover; you just have to wait until their head pops up and then pop a round between their eyes. Your allies throw back enemy grenades, but the grenade indicator means that 90% of the time that grenades aren't a big threat anyway. Smoke grenades were pretty cool, but in most cases unnecessary. With a bolt-action rifle and an SMG I could handle most situations without too many problems (on the next-to-hardest level of difficulty). And of course, others have commented at length on the regenerating health feature. I agree that it did speed up the game, but at times you feel like Rambo (in one mission, I was shot about 100 times and still made it through okay).

Some of the scripting is just weird. If you're repeating a round, you'll know exactly where the bad guys will be. Every German tank (and there are many) in the game appears to be a Panzer II, as far as I could see; how hard would it have been to design a few later models?

Others have commented on how short the campaigns are. I finished the first two in about 2 hours each.

So in summary, COD2 is more of the same. If you enjoyed the first game, you'll enjoy this one. But there's nothing innovative here, regardless of the publisher's promises. What I'd like to see is a game where you are told to attack a village, and target a series of AT/AA/arty guns (this mission appears several times in COD2). Then you're dropped off with your squad in the outskirts, and you can go anywhere around the village, through any building, climb a wall, have a buddy lift you up to the roof, etc. Maybe COD3, but I doubt it.

A sure cure for ennui for a 60+ PC game newbie.

Bought COD, COD2 and COD United Offensive about 2 months ago and haven't stopped playing. All are exciting, challenging at the upper difficulty levels, vivid, great combat scripts, weapon choices, etc. COD2 is my favorite, but only by a small margin. The enemy troops in COD2 are a little more plumper and easier to see in the many dimly lit house searches you will make, also most of the enemy is in winter whites in the colder climates. I like the sniper rifle unsteadiness where you must make an adjustment to still the shot, the falling rain, the light snow.

Great game, a little short

That's basically all I have against this game. It's a tad bit short. I bought it and beat it in less than 5 hours. I was suprised when the credits started rolling (In that classic COD way). But i do play the missions over and over again, so pretty good replay value. Graphics are awesome and the music is well done. Gameplay is very intense. The only thing I really got sick of was hearing soldiers scream "MG-42!" and "Potato Masher!."

I've played my fair share of FPS games, even if my main genre is RTS, and I've loved them all. There are some truly fantasic FPS games out there. But the thing is that after playing them for a while, they get old, or dull, or something.
Which is why I lov this game. It has no unique or complex gameplay features, the controls are simple, and all it delivers from the original is new sounds, a few new weapons, far batter graphics, and better AI.
And yet...its enough. The first game was good wnough that all this one has to do is capitalize on the old one by offering a few basic improvments (graphics) and new missions. It is honestly the nly FPS I know that I can play for a whole straight day (if I wanted to, I can never stay on a comp. for more than 3 hours if neccesary) Even after I beat the entire game months ago I never have any problem with coming home after school and playing several rounds of this. Somehow, it just never gets old.

Excellent Game

Call of Duty 2 is probably the most enjoyable game I have played in a long while. I can't comment on regards to whether the game is better than its predecessor because I haven't played it.

Gameplay: I would have to say the most emphasis in the game is on you and your mens advancement. You cannot remain in one position for too long. Some see this as a downside because the enemy constantly spawns unless you advance, but I see it as a great way to keep the game moving and the intensity high. This game is the most realistic war game I have ever played. A lot of attention is given to you seeking cover and staying low. Only downside to the game is your inability to throw an enemies grenade back at them.

Graphics: Luckily I recently purchased a new graphics card, so I was able to play this game at the maximum graphics settings. I must say that the game is quite stunning.

Sound: Extra Kudos goes to the sound development team. The surround sound on this game is probably the best out there. Talk about being right in the middle of each battle.

Controls: You can set up the controls basically to your liking which is a good thing because the default controls didn't agree with me.

Overall: Call of Duty 2 is a very engrossing and fun game. Highly recommended.
