I had heard that this game was really worth waiting for, and it was! I was so excited to play just after watching the opening movie (which was very interesting). The graphics are above normal quality, with great attention to detail, right down to the shadows! The characters are nothing to brag about, but the special effects when a player delivers a power shot are smooth and beautiful with each character's racket emmiting some sort of cool pattern, from rainbows, to hearts, to lightning, the ball sails through the air with a comet tail. Controll is downright simple. Controll stick moves the character, A does a topspin, and B is a slice. R is to use an item, but that's for later. Your character is very flexable, if the ball is to their left, they hit it. If its to their right, they hit it, and if it's above them, they jump up and hit. It's so easy for beginners to catch on to and win easily, yet skill is still required to win tournaments. There are several different playing surfaces, each have a different effect on the ball, as well as several special courts which you must unlock by winning a tournement with certain characters. You have the option to play a singles or doubles match. In a doubles with multiple players, you have complete controll over who plays with who, so messing with controlls will never happen. Nintendo and Camelot have done it again by adding several special playing modes to give tennis fans a taste of somthing new. There is ring mode, where players must hit their ball through a series of rings, a mode where Pirana Plants spit balls at you, and the very challenging Bowser Mode, where players must try and stay in position on a tilting court suspended over a pit of lava. One of the main features of Mario Kart is brought back here, where characters must hit the ball through rainbow cubes to obtain items which can either upgrade the user, or attack your opponents. The characters are divided up into various classes which follow: Mario and Luigi make up the well rounded players, Peach, Daisy (a very overlooked chick), Toad, and Waluigi (Wario's brother and Luigi's arch enemy, the only new character) make up the accurate hitters, Yoshi, Birdo (another overlooked character), and Baby Mario are the speedsters, Wario, Donkey Kong, and Bowser are all power houses, and Koopa Paratroopa and Boo are...um...well I'm not quite sure. Aside from the initial lineup, Shy Guy and Donkey Kong Jr. are hidden characters. Now, the reason I gave 4 stars is because of the power shot feature. Now, don't get me wrong, I think it's a great feature, but for beginners, it can be hard to adjust to. Pressing either A or B when the ball is no where near you will cause your character to power up, and during this time, you can hardly move (it can be cancelled with Z, but that's hard to get used to). So if you press it too early, you may become immobilized so you can't reach the ball in time. Another reason that it's only 4 stars is because only one person can choose a certain player, unlike Mario Golf, where everybody can play as the same character. But overall, Mario Tennis is an extremely addictive game that's perfect for players of all skill levels. If there is any game that you should get for N64 this year, it's Mario Tennis!
Another winner for Mario fans....

I originally got this game when it first came out, played it 4 or 5 times, and then put it away. I guess Tony Hawk Pro Skater is to blame for that...
Anyway, I recently decided to give Mario Tennis another chance, and now I am hooked. This game is a mix of fantasy (playing tennis with ghosts, gorillas, etc.) and reality (true-to-life tennis action).
The graphics are solid, colorful, and the action is fast-paced. There are a ton of characters to choose from.
If you want to get your bling bling on, pick up a copy of this dope game today.
Smashing good fun

Ten minutes into this title, and it's easy to see why the older Mario games still fetch a high price on ebay half a decade later. Mario Tennis is a perfected version of classic video game tennis featuring a Mario all-star cast. Play as everyone from Mario to Bowser to Donkey Kong Jr., and also Waluigi and Daisy, who were introduced/re-introduced with this game. You get the rules of real-life tennis, smattered with some power-up moves, and lots of tournaments and modes to compete in. It's the gameplay that's the real kicker; by yourself you'll have a reasonably good time unlocking stuff, but with four players in a doubles tournament it becomes absolute madness. Controls are tight, and the gameplay allows both experienced gamers and newcomers onto the court.
Nintendo may have eventually over-milked the 'Mario sports' sub-genre, but the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis is a solid investment. Still worth picking up if you want a fun sports game.

Mario delivers in..
Adventure Games
RPG Games
Games in Generall
and Sports.
This game is excellent, Mario delivers once again. Actually the only time he hasn't deleverd was with Super Mario Sunshine, but Paper Mario (both 1 and 2) and the original Super Mario 64 are EXCELLENT. Paper Mario series is the best video game series ever created.
Now Tennis, this game is really fun and if you play other tennis games you know they are really hard, so hard that it isn't fun. Well this is challenging, but it is great fun and easy to play for all ages. Tournaments, Mini games, Multiplayer action, Doubles, singles, this game has it all. Plus that Mario feel to it, it takes you out of the real word and takes you into the world of Mario. You can decide how long you want to play, how many sets you are going to play to, etc. This game is AWESOME.
And with all these disgraceful new generation systems that are coming out, buy this and have a reason to play some classic N64!
LONG LIVE THE CLASSICS, LONG LIVE MARIO!

This game is the bomb. It is the most fun and adictive game i've played, if you play tennis or don't play tennis this is still a good game to get. Infact this game actually taught me the rules in tennis and i then ended up taking tennis lessons, which is now my favourite sport. Any way in my spare time i like to play this game. It has many cool characters with weaknesses and pro's at things in tennis like volleys, serves, ground strokes, and speed. This game even has a catagory for each player like yoshi is suited in the speed catogory and donkey kong is suited in the power section. This game also has a great selection of tennis courts like clay courts, hard courts and more, and i think its pretty cool how every time a point is one a replay comes up, and i have to say this game has a great replay value. It is also very easy to learn the moves in this game, though i have to say the game is kinda easy. My favourite thing about this game is the doubles matches. I love versing my friends in doubles, and you can also be partners with your friends in doubles and kick the computers [butt]!!
Great fun for everyone!

Even if you aren't a fan of tennis, you will fall in love with this game. When I first played it, I didn't want to stop playing it. With 16 characters including Toad, Bowser, Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Baby Mario, Paratroopa Yoshi, Boo, and many more you won't find a character you don't like. Each character has different strengths like serving hard or having a hard return hit, and different weaknesses like being too short (in Boo's case). One player mode on this game is amazing. The game of tennis is very well represented in this game with real tennis rules. But what makes this game so much fun is being able to play with your favorite Nintendo characters. With great graphics, tight controls and an all-around fun game, Mario Tennis is a game that all Nintendo 64's owners should buy.
Wow!

I was first exposed to Mario Tennis at a toy store. My wife and daughter started playing instantly. I was amazed. At that moment I knew I had to buy the game once it came out. Well, after playing for over a week now, I must say this is a very easy to play but hard to put down title. Even if your not interested in tennis as a sport, just like Mario Golf, you'll enjoy playing this fun filled tennis game. Anyone can pick this game up and play, so invite some friends over and have a party! If you're into overly complicated controls or realistic gameplay look elsewhere but if your looking for an enjoyable game and pure Mario fun, pick up Mario Tennis.
Cool Game!

People who don't like tennis will love Mario Tennis! When you beat the Star Cup, you will get either DK Jr. or Waluigi. Note: Waluigi is the best player in the game.
