This game simply rules. The single player is not so good. Multiplayer is where its at. I dont have to go into too much detail becasue the other reviews say it for me

Battlefield 2 is a game with excellent potential.
GRAPHICS:
It has great graphics. Of course you pay for these graphics by having to have a substantial game system. Check system specs carefully before purchasing and don't try to run this game on min. requirements. The map detail, the animations are all extremely well done.
GAME PLAY:
You have 7 different kits you can play - each with a powerful and unique role on the modern battlefield. I've not found any one kit to be without a great deal of playability. Medic, Engineer, Anti-Tank, Assault, Special Forces, Support, Sniper - they all have fun and challenging tasks.
THE PROBLEM:
Unfortunately, for all the the incredible game play there is a serious balance issue with the game. Whereas nearly every thing you can do in the game from Sniper to Tanker has a series of counters (hence balance) the jets in the game have no reasonable balance. This means if you get in a game with a jet 'whore' (meaning someone who flys jets exclusively) you'll likely end up spending alot of time looking at your death screen. A couple of jets can dominate a game with 30-40 other people in it - thereby basically ruining it for everyone else -- this happens way too often an there is no cure as the anti-aircraft emplacements don't work.
Despite complaints to EA about the balance issue since the game launch the company has failed to address this issue, which I've found so frustrating that after 2 months of play I'm ready to throw the dang game away.
A simple fix to the anti-aircraft, or the ability to turn the jets off would put this game in the 5 star ratings easily - unfortunately, as it stands the game is little more than a penny arcade for whoever gets the jets first.
A FIX
If you are willing to play on infrantry only servers or if you are willing to play on maps that don't have jets at all (all my favorite maps have jets...so I lose there) then you can get away from this GROSS imbalance - in that case, the game would be worth your money.
What a disappointment

I LOVED BF1942, but this version is so buggy, poorly designed and problematic that I have uninstalled it. I will be selling it to a stranger because I wouldn't GIVE this to a friend.
The install crashed my computer three times and I had to pull the plug to restart. The load times are about 5 minutes long. I usually go to the fridge and make a phone call while waiting to join a game. The server list is slow and has no way of filtering all the slow servers like BF1942. The filter boxes are there but they don't work. 95% of the servers shown have a ping above 200(all the way up to 2500!). I usually see about three servers with a ping under 100 (other games do not have this problem).
Gameplay: Artillery and aircraft dominate the game. The commander has a satellite view that shows enemy positions so don't even think of using stealth, you'll just get arty dumped on you (it recharges every two minutes). 75% of your deaths will be from the air with no warning. This is not that surprising considering the game is BASED on spawn camping.
The vehicles are so slow it feels like slo-mo. Which doesn't really matter since the ground physics make it feel like mud or ice . Vehicles slide all over the place and if the ground is sloped they just keep sliding.
Thi is OBVIOUSLY a beta version released early because they wanted the money. It has already had two patches and a third is being made.
The most fun I've had since Diablo II

WARNING: Check your system specs and make sure you have AT LEAST the minimum requirements. Take the time to check out some of the forums that are dedicated to BF2, such as www.bf2.com. There are many threads dealing with the requirements.
That being said, this is a really, really fun game. I run an AMD FX-53 with 1GB of RAM and a GeForce 6800GT video card, and I have no problems with this game.
There is a single player option for offline play, but you are limited to the smaller, 16-player maps. This is fun for practicing and getting a feel for the game, but the real fun is playing multiplayer online!
Be on one of three military units: USMC, Middle East Coalition (MEC), or PLA (People's Liberation Army - China) and fight small-unit battles across a variety of maps.
Choose to be any one of the following: Special Forces, Sniper, Assault Class, Support Class, Engineer Class, Medic Class, and Anti-Tank Class (I think that's all of them).
Work together with your team, or be a "Lone Wolf" and operate on your own.
Weapons include everything from a USMC K-Bar knife to Heat-Seaking missiles.
Vehicles include everything from a HMMWV (Hummvee) to fighter jets, Blackhawks, and attack helos.
Battlefield 2 has a ranking and awards system. Accumulate points by killing your enemy, healing your comrades, resupplying your comrades, or capturing outposts. You can earn rank, badges, ribbons, or medals depending on your performance.
The game has been plagued by people hacking into the stats server, and many people complain of online cheaters. Such is online gaming, I guess. EA is currently working on patch 1.03, which will supposedly "fix" some of the more ridiculous "stat-padding" gimmicks - killing someone, having a medic revive them, and then killing them again. Rinse. Repeat. This is called "Point Farming," and you'd be surprised how many people cheat just to get points so they can get promoted or earn awards. Keep in mind that you can only earn points playing multiplayer online on a ranked server.
BTW, moving up in rank does not mean you get more "Hit points" or improved accuracy in the game. Higher ranking players are the first choice of the game server to be "commander" for a round. Also, as you move up in rank, you can unlock a few weapons. But that is pretty much it.
Anyway, if you like a "first-person shooter (fps)," that takes place in modern times with modern war-fighting equipment, then this is for you! Just make sure your system can handle it.
(And, for the person with Zone Alarm. Get into your Zone Alarm configuration and check the settings specific to bf2.exe. If you relax some of the permissions, you should have no trouble getting BF2 to run WITHOUT having to completely shut down Zone Alarm. You just have to grant bf2.exe certain privileges, or Zone Alarm will pop up one of its warnings that you will not be able to see when BF2 is trying to run - it is very hard to try and [alt]+[tab] to swap apps when BF2 is running.)

If you liked BF1942 you will love BF2. Game play is similar, but with much more emphasize on team play. A commander coordinates each force and acts with strategic orders, artillery and amo/health boxes. Squad leaders coordinate field tactics. The squad structure improves team play through spawning (near the squad leader) and voice over ip. An easy accessible and efficient communications menu and big rewards for team play (revival of fallen troopers, driver score points etc..) are all I ever wanted in BF1942,
but..
From starting the game till I am on the first map and ready for action can easily take 15-20 minutes, the server browser actually works (somewhat reliable) only after the first patch and despite steady internet connection the server connection is notoriously fragile. How can this be in a ready product? A bit more work, and this would be the best game ever. So I feel like a beta tester, not a customer.
Solid Game

As you might expect from any Battlefield game, it comes out to being just another great multiplayer game. Except this time, while relying on the same formula, it adds a great amount of detail to the gameplay to make it seem fresh. The new, modern-day setting makes it especially cool, because face it- you can get enough of WW2 games. Each side (People's Republic Of China, Middle Eastern Coalition, and the US Army) has it's own perticular strengths and weaknesess.
Like you might have already heard, the system req's are very steep. My machine runs it great on High graphics on everything. I have a AMD Athlon 64 3000+, 1 GB RAM, and a Radeon X700 256 mb. graphics card, and I have no problems.
The most notable new feature is commander mode, in which you become a commander of your team, with many abilities including Artillery, the ability to see you enemies, make supply drops, and give orders to your team. The single player is ok, the same as all the others, but the real expirience is in multiplayer.
If you are looking for a great team-based multiplayer game, and have a really good system, you can't go wrong with Battlefield 2.
Great game!

What else is there to say? It's a great game.
My system is a 3GHz P4, 1GB ram, ATI 9800 pro. It runs good on 'medium' settings, but it still looks good even on medium.
I've had occasional problems with the system locking up, but it only happens once in a while, so I can deal with it. Perhaps it's similar to other 9800 users ... I don't have problems with any other programs. Still, despite the issues, it still gets a 5.
Great game.......with bugs.

Well what can i say, this game is one of the best games that i have ever played in my life (this includes the halo games). That said, it has ALOT of bugs. First you need a pretty updated system to run it. Even then some graphics cards to not play well with it. I recommend at lest a 2.8 ghz processor and a gig of ram. Also the game itself is a bit unstable, but its not a major problem.
Overall 4.5 stars with bugs 5 stars without them.
Damnn! This game is off the hook!

Probably one of the best game of the year. With the commander mode, this game is really what the future of war game will be like. All those vehicles and aircrafts are fun too. They are kinda tough so practices are needed. I don't think the requirements are that bad. I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, which has a 1.86 processor, a gig of ram and a 64 MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON® X300 HyperMemory Graphics3. At first I didn't think the game was gonna work because of my video card. The specific for the game was a card with 128 MB. So I downloaded the demo and suprisingly, it worked. It runs really smooth. I think memory is like the main part, get them upgraded and you're good to go.
