In this game, you play as Nancy Drew, the famous girl detective. You're in an old Victorian mansion in San Francisco, helping a friend renovate it so that she can open it as a bed and breakfast. However, when you take a closer look, there have been many delays and accidents occuring. There are four suspects to interview - Rose, the worried owner, Abby, her business partner who thinks the house is haunted, Louis, an antiques dealer who has a strong interest in the renovation, and Charlie, the somewhat inexperienced handyman. Rather than just hearing Nancy talk, you can choose from a list what you'd like her to say. There are also four levels of the house to explore, including a basement and an attic. You use your cursor (which looks like a magnifying glass) to zoom in on clues. You can read books and magazines, snoop around in boxes and drawers, and solve puzzles to find important clues. Everything is important, and it's easy to overlook something. You can also call up your friends, Bess and George, Hannah or Emily to get information and even hints, but only if you want them. There are two levels of difficulty to choose from, Junior and Senior detective. The difference between the levels are the hints you get and how difficult it is to solve puzzles. The game is just difficult enough to be challenging, but not so much to be overwhelming. However, I think that it's definately too difficult for most ten year olds. This game is great because it's not only fun - it's educational, too. For example, you learn about the Gold Rush and investigate Chinese writing. It makes you think even when you're not learning, too. I took about four and a half pages worth of notes playing this game, including diagrams, clues, and Chinese characters. Even a super-sleuth will take a while to solve this game. It's really fun and entertaining for everybody, whether you play with a friend or sibling or by yourself. The animation is terrific, as well as the 3D setting. The actors who played the voices of the characters were fantastic as well, and the music fit the spooky setting perfectly. Overall, it's a wonderful game. Everybody should give this game a try, as well as these other Nancy Drew games: Treasure in the Royal Tower, The Final Scene, and The Secret of the Scarlet Hand.

Started this one without a walkthrough. When I finally found one, I restarted the game. It is a time based game, so certain things happen or are available at certain times. Good graphics and audio. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to Stay Tuned for Danger.
Great Game!

Message in a Haunted Mansion is a terrific computer game. Nancy's Housekeeper Hannah, has a friend in San Fransico who has just bought a Victorian Mansion. There are strange happenings going on in the mansion and it's Nancy's job (as always) to find the culprit. Each suspest has a motive and even though I am far in the game I'm still yet to figure out the culprit. There is Abby, the girl who has seances. Then there's Louis, who says he is an antique collecter. Then there's Charley,(I believe that's his name) who is a young, inexperienced handyman.
The plot of this game varies from Victorian Houses to Chinese Writing to Dragons. There is much to learn in this game, but the funny thing is I didn't think of it as learning, just fun.
Anyways, there is much excitement as you travel through the wonderfully designed mansion. (the 3D graphics are amazing) On your way you find trap doors, secret rooms, a seance, a fire, and many misleading and helpful clues.
Another wonderful aspect of this game is the second chance button. (I've used it twice so far) If you encounter something where you are killed or thrown out of the house, you are brought back to the main menu where you can click the 2nd chance button and start at a safe place in the story.
Here are some hints and clues that may help you in the game (don't worry they aren't spoilers)
-Paint scrapers can be used for reasons other than scraping paint
-Many things in the story only occur at a certain time(you can change the time in Nancy's bedroom on the alarm clock if needed)
-Never leave ANYTHING unlooked
Message in a Haunted Mansion has got to be the greatest computer game I've ever played in my life and it is definitely worth the price and waiting for it to arrive in the mail. (When I'm finished with this one I can't wait to complete all of the rest!)
By the way, this game is great played with two or more people. I am a 12 year old girl and my 4 year old sister loves to watch me play this supenseful game and even help a bit. It's a lot of fun to watch us both scream and jump out of our seats when we hear a woman crying or see a phantom in a mirror.
Wonderful game for kids of all ages

I have played this game mainly because I have been an Nancy Drew fan as a kid. I will admit that this game did have me spooked in some areas. The ominous music was great at giving the whole game a spooky feel to it. The puzzles weren't too difficult that they couldn't be solved. My favorite was the floor puzzle, ony because I have always enjoyed tangrams. The puzzle that gave me a headache was the staircase puzzle. That one took forever to find. But once I found it, I actually enjoyed trying to solve it. One thing I learned throughout the whole game is to TAKE NOTES! You will need to copy down all of the Chinese Art symbols in order to solve the rug puzzle in your room.
This is the second Nancy Drew game that I have played and one thing that I like is that if you die or get thrown out (as I have done on more than one occasion -- tongue lashings are fun), you can pick up where you left off, provided you saved your game.

This game is a lot of fun. When I was little I enjoyed reading the Nancy Drew books and this game is just as exciting as the books. The graphics are great. I love the conversations that you have with all the other characters. I am going to order the other two Nancy Drew games, I hope they are as good as this one. Hope they come up with more.

I have never been a fan of computer games - they make me nervous trying to shoot at things. But this game was great fun (even at my advanced age). The story was good, the characters were a little stiff, but that is part of their charm. I cannot believe how much time I spent playing this game when normally I can't stand spending time in front of the computer. Highly recommend this game for anyone who wants to use their brain while playing a computer game.

This game is very good and it has realistic looking people, but it's really freaky. As soon as you get near the end you start seeing shadows running across the hall, and creepy noises. This game right is right for you if you like spooky things.

This was a great game. It has great graphics. It takes awhile to beat it too. People who like Nancy Drew would enjoy this game. It is full of secrets passages, and strange things happening all around. Nancy goes to a mansion to help with renovations. But as it turns out she also helps with a mystery. Many things happen while Nancy is on her visit. There is a seance, and a fire. She discovers a secret attic, and fixes a few things too. This is a great game.

I played...erm, AM playing this game with my friend. (She's the one who uses the mouse.) I wouldn't say it's necessarily HARD, just...creepy. The music doesn't help. But...we have to keep the sound up because we're getting to lots of CREEPY sound effects.
You see a ghost. More than once. Just warning you.
I get scared easily. I cover my eyes a lot in this game. :) That's why I gave it four stars...it's scary. It's not all that HARD, though. The people hardly ever talk. That gets aggravating.
One of my favorites!

This was the 5th Nancy Drew game I finished. It instantly fell into my 'favorite computer game' category. I love mysteries, puzzles, and Nancy Drew. This game fits everything perfectly! I loved the decorations and things in the mansion. I got frustrated at the end, because you had to gather information from the whole mansion to solve everything! Anyways, I thought that this game was fascinating. You really got to know the characters, and you got to find your way through the mansion easily! There were lots of puzzles (Ugh! That inlay puzzle at the beginning!), tasks, and things. Every character had a secret to be revealed, even though only one of them was responsible. In the latter games, you could only use each item for one thing. Here, though, you had several uses for the items! That was very fun, and interesting! You had to poke through private belongings, play piano, learn some Chinese... And you could get into a lot of trouble with everyone if you weren't careful! P.S. Paint scrapers aren't only used to scrape paint off in this game... P.P.S. If you loved this one, you will love treasure in the Royal Tower!
