My game came without the product code required for activation. Apparently this is a well-known problem. I suggest you avoid this game until the problem is fixed, or pruchase it at a retail location where you can open the box to confirm that an activation code is present.

I can't install this game as it came with no registration number to unlock the cd and begin the installation process. Have contacted EA, but won't hold my breath!
Good game, but not as fun

I bought this about 5 days ago, and I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. No, not because of the code (it's on the back of the manual, people), or because of the downloading (there's a way around that if you go to the support site). This game has some great improvements over the previous one, but I think that playwise, SC3K was way better.
Why it's better than SC3K:
Graphics are way better. You can adjust the settings to be higher or lower detail.
It lets you put animals in the field, such as deer, horses, or wild animals.
It has MUCH more recreational and educational options.
Your zoning isn't limited by changes in terrain.
In region mode, you can see the towns and bridges on the map.
Why SC3K is better:
Setting up highways is a PAIN. In SC3K, you could lay roads and highways and they would automatically adjust. In this one, you have to destroy and build, destroy and build, destroy and build, in order to make the ramps and such the way you want them.
City connections--Some people might actually like this better. It's ok for me, but gets old really fast. The game is set in regions, where you have to build multiple cities in order to make connections for just one city. In SC3K, all you did was connect at the borders and it was done.
Finally, I couldn't ever keep enough money in the bank without using a cheat building from the website, and that sort of takes the fun away from it.
Overall it's a good game; it just doesn't fit my liking as much as previous SC games.
Great game-but my disc shattered in the CD-rom!

I had a lot of fun playing this game. It's different in many ways than Sim City 3000, but still challenging to me in a way that I like playing both games. I like how you can make regions and the adjacent cities in the region all co exist.
The reason why I give this game 2 stars is the lack of quality of the disc. I am very careful with all my discs, I keep them properly stored away from light and excessive temps. But the last time I put the disc in the game, the disc shattered INSIDE the CD-rom as the game was loading! Luckily I shut my computer down straight away and my husband was able to get it all cleaned out (the disc completely disintigrated) and the computer running again with no problems. He figures that there was some indistinguishable crack in the disc, possibly from popping it out of those stupid 2 disc holders. I was very careful with trying to get the disc out of the case but it was still difficult. I'd like to add that in all the software I have (numerous games and other software) that this has never happened before.
It's been more than 90 days since I bought the game so I can't get a free replacement but I can at least get a replacement for $7.50. Not as bad as full price but still, Maxis can't you get better quality discs or cases? This should not have happened! I'll be sure to be haunting the mail box in 3-4 weeks when my replacement discs should arrive. And I hope to never have this happen again. If others are having difficulty getting the disc to come out of the case, you may want to change cases or put it in a storage envelope. The horrible noise the disc made when it shattered literally scared years off me.
buyer beware

The copy of SimCity4 that I purchased came without the access codes to support instillation. When I called Electronic arts all I got was an automated phone system... press 2 now... EA's manufacturing quality control is so poor that they had a selection for products without access codes! I could never find a way to talk with a human beibng about the problem. The automated voice suggested solution was to send the product to them at my expsnse to prove that it came without the access code! I have returned the game to Amazon for a refund. I would never buy another EA product.

All games are not for everyone, but if you are into city building strategy than this one will keep you entertained for hours at a time, or until your wife kicks you off to play her city. It is almost an addiction at times. Great choice if you like the Sim City games.
Excellent for all ages over 8 years old

This is super game, it can be played at any level. However, use the tutorials FIRST.. Building large cities takes some learning.. Just like an engineer, architect, or any contractor knows.. But you still can play the game at a farm, village, or small city level. Very good learnig tool for anyone. It rates up with ZOO, Rollercoaster, and all the Great ones. I actually bought a second copy for my grandchildren for Christmas.

I played the original Simcity when it first came out. This was back when Radio Shack had the Tandy computer. This is by far my favorite. The graphics are wonderful, the management while its not overly oppressive, it definately sims what running a city is like. In this one you get both SimCity4000 and the expansion Rush Hour. YOu can create sprawling metropolis or small villages by creating a region. What makes this game so much fun is the amount of thinking, urban planning, management, and urban revitalization is unprecedented. Placing zones of either residential, commerical, and Industrial the heart of your city planning. You must layout transportation, and the sims will come. As you zoom in closer to your city you can see it come alive.
My only peeve is that I wish another expansion would come out, this is certainly a gem. Im aware of EA coming out with what seems to be Simcity's replacement and new lease on life. Many people are shouting that Maxis is not in on this one. What concerns me is seeing the pictures it looks like its City Life's cousin and you plop buildings down and not the zones. I happen to like zoning which is true to making a city.
I was hoping that traffic lights would get an update and the use of turn signals (red arrow), and placing traffic signals. It would be nice to change the timings (see bags over the new lights that are about to be installed), add more signals, put them on the poles or long wire that we see everywhere, have traffic truly following the signals. Added realism can see traffic meters added, parking spaces, real parking lots, police pulling over speeders and running red lights, and getting into the police car and pulling people over or writing tickets for expired meters or stickers. The toll booth was a nice addition but when you see a toll booth its sprawled over many lanes and has gates and flashing lights. The airports need more action and realism. Sports stadiums should create a lot more traffic. I wish MAxis didnt give up on updates. Their was one update, more than 4 years ago. Simcity with todays computers would of benefited a small upgrade to allow the use of dual core processors which have dropped in price, and higher end video cards power to lift its capabilities. Cities lag badly when it gets bigger.
All in all, I love this game. If you like city management/building, city creation, the opportunity to create a region from scratch, along with transportation meccas, then this is an absoulte. For $15 this is a steal!
