I was so excited to wake up on Christmas and find this gift under the tree. I followed the instructions, but it wouldn't work. Once the percentage on the instalation reached 100% it showed us a picture of a suspension bridge and froze the computer, I reinstalled it four times, but it didn't work. Then, My Aunt and Uncle came over for xmas dinner, they are both computer scientists, and after four hours of trying to fix it, but it still didn't work. I am a VERY dissipointed eleven year old girl. Merry Christmas
hours of fun.

Sim City 4, at first, seemed like it made transportation issues easier because you don't have to deal with roads within blocks of zoned areas, but it's actually more complicated as you have to coordinate all the transportation facilities to make a really effective system. You also have to pay more attention to the coverage of fire stations, police stations, hospitals, schools, and so on. Interacting with your neighbors has gotten much more important as well.
But it is still a very fun game, and I recommend it to any Sim City fan.
Fun, but easy

This game is fun, but is very easy. Within an hour of loading the game I had 3 cities with a large surplus. This took me weeks to do on SimCity 3000. My favorite new feature is the "U-Drive-It" mission where you drive around in a vechicle in your city. These are really fun and an easy way to get cash. These won't work terrible well if your computer is older. I have a P4 with 256 DDR ram and a 128 video card and I can barely play the car driving missions in large cities because my computer can't keep up and lags. Making multiple cities that can be inter-dependant is also very fun. I recommend this game to anyone that likes the SimCity series.

Wow, I've always hated sim games until I've play this one. Actually, Sim City 4 is the first on I've ever bought and since I had I literally have to tear myself away from the computer just to live my real life. This game is very complex and realistic (in that sense it might drive some gamers away). For me, the sense of actually running a city as a real mayor was incredible fun (and even a bit frustrating at times as it really would be). All of the gripes people have with the registration code are just dumb. I had trouble finding it at first too, but after an extensive search of the back of the manual I found it. The game runs fine on my system too so I don't know what some of these other people are talking about. Get an upgrade or something, but the game is fine!
One of the BEST GAMES

OK, let's put it straight. This game is very organized. It contains lots of options for transportaion and civic structures. The graphics are pretty darn good and the sound is mildly decent. But then there are the downs. It may get a bit sluggish when the city is VERY BIG!!! So, this game is still very good.
p.s. For faster installation, copy disc one to your computer and insert disk to when needed.
Awesome game for the price

This is a great game from Maxis for the price it is selling at now. What makes it so great is not the product itself, but the amount of support that is available in the form of mods and new buildings, etc. made by designers from all around the world.
This one is a definite 5. Looking for a good fun game to spend your time? Then pick this one.
Still a good game even in 2008

The only difference between games made today and games made 5 years ago are the graphics. And the graphics of SimCity4.0 aren't that bad - they certainly won't make you cringe like you were playing the original Oregon Trail (hey, another fun but really old game!).
The complexity of this game makes for a steep learning curve. However, that intricacy is what makes this game so fun and challenging. There is no real objective to this game except to keep building. It sounds stupid but once you start, you can't stop, except to occasionally sit back and admire your work.
If you've never tried SimCity before, then don't hesitate to give this one a shot. It's the only game of its kind (thats worth playing anyways). Now that Amazon has it for so cheap, there really is no reason not to pick up a copy.
Not ready for Vista

First the scary stuff, then the review.
SCARY STUFF
If you have Windows Vista Don't bother with SimCity 4 or its sibling SimCity Societies. I'm suck with both and neither of them work under Vista. They load, they start, they run for 20 to thirty minutes, then its constant crashing. Societies got to the point where it would crash every 4 to 6 minutes. I tried all the fixes that Microsoft and EA suggested, which weren't much, and they still didn't work. I even tried updating and falling back on new and old drivers for my Video Card, Nvidia 8500 GT, and still no go. I dumbed down the display to 640x480 at 256 colors and crash away they went.
REVIEW
Both games can be fun, but in different ways.
SC4 is a micro managers dream, you'll end up spending so much time laying water pipe and figuring out sewage, power, and etc., etc., etc., you won't have much time to sit back and enjoy your creation.
SCS is less demanding on your hands-on skills, it lets you tune the style of city you build more then dealing with the exact number of water pumps you need to keep your city humming. Only the SCS Sims are much more likely to run you out on a rail then the SC4 folks, if things aren't going right. That's when you start to change from a Artsy Utopia to a Fascist Police State, in order to maintain control and stay in power.
Anyway, I suggest you stick with Windows XP to enjoy either of these games.
