First off, I'm a big fan of the original star wars movies, I loved them! But the game disappointed me in several key aspects. And while I may not have enjoyed this title as much as others, it was still a nice game to experience.
The graphics were excellent, the music true to the movies, and the game was incredibly easy to control. So what made it take a turn for the worse? The basic gameplay. It seemed like every mission I started, I would end up attacking the ship I was supposed to be escorting, or spending half an hour trying to fire my secondary weapon (I still don't know how to fire a tow cable). The problem is that the only instructions you get come in verbal form that would seem to only serve as a reminder to those who already know what to do. I really came close to throwing my controller out the window several times.
Once you realize what the objective actually means (for me that meant looking at an online guide), you can appreciate the game for what it is. I may not have played many flying games, but the ships all seemed easy to control. I ended up enjoying the levels where you could just fly around attacking Tie's for target practice. Since a large part of the game consists of collecting medals for achieving objectives, it should last you a respectable amount of time (assuming you eventually understand the instructions). There are also many unlockable levels, so it felt like you got a lot of variety (complete with visually amazing and unique scenery).
Overall a great flying game, but maybe not quite worth a purchase. Great for a weekend rental, but unless you are a hardcore Star Wars fan, I wouldn't recommend buying it.

I've never seen such a realistic game in my life! After just a couple of minutes of playing this action-packed game, it feels like your in the movie! Dynamic ships to pilot combined with immensly detailed landscapes, plus an action-packed plot makes this game a must for any Gamecube owner!
Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II takes full advantage of the Gamecube's graphical power. You can see every nook and cranny of the Death Star's outer walls, and every streak of rust on the X-Wings. Not to mention the amazing music it has - it sounds just like the movies!
Not only does Rogue Leader have amazing graphics, but offers worthwhile gameplay value. 11 Missions + bonus, over 4 ships to fly, and tons of medals to earn makes this a game you'll be playing for a very, very long time. It even has DVD-like features, such as a behind-the-scenes documentary. One "Use the force, Luke," and you'll be hooked.
This game is a definite for any Star-wars lover, action-game lover, flight-simulation lover, great-graphics-lover, strategy-game lover...pretty much anybody! Believe me, when you get your Gamecube, BUY THIS GAME!

This is the best game so far this year. Once you start playing this game and notice all the small details you will start to realize the power of the Cube. The game has 11 missions and all are straight from the flicks. The game also contains footage from the movies. This game is definately the best game of the Gamecube's launch and it could be the best game of the year for any platform.

I have played this game and i know what i am talking about below is my grade.
200/100 Graphics- Yes its that good. The game seems like a movie and shots from it look like movie stills. Expect for your eyes to bleed.
100/100 Gameplay- Fight the Empire thru 13 levels. This game also tells you the history of Rogue Squadren. Ahhh the sound of screaming ties when the blaster hits them...BBBOOOOMMMM!!!!
100/100 Controls- Let me personally congratulate the producers upon making the game controls seem goddly. The controls are so ez to get used to.
200/100 Replay Ability- Time for the can of coke to help keep me awake to play this. Once you think youve beaten the game you find out you really havent. 5 bonus missions + all the gold medals and power-ups you have to get( they took out platinum.)
I reconmmend this game to everyone who has a gamecube. Lucas Arts never lets you down. Also try Star Wars: Rogue Squadren for the n-64. Bye, its 2.45 am and i have to get the gold on hoth.

ALONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR AWAY... From the 4th moon of Yavin,Rebel Alliance Headquarters,(0700hrs) Zero Hour. My wingman Ensign John Kelly and I were scrambled to what I had assumed was a routine training mission to meet-up with Captain Joe Lasster and his wingman Lt. Lew Brewster.Suddenly over all the "chatter" on the radio I recognized a familiar voice. It was that of rouge squad leader Wedge Antilles this was not going to be a training mission at all... Lucas Arts has done it again this time for the Gamecube Rouge Squadron in my opinion is the Best air combat flight simulator/Air combat games of all times.awesome cinematic graphics and intense action packed gameplay makes this game one of the most popular games. I personally recommend to anyone who owns a Gamecube to purchase this game!! star wars storylines, excellent and very easy to use controls not to mention all the well engineered aircraft.for those who played rouge sqaudron for the N64 you will allready no how to use/fly familiar ships such as the X/Y/A Wings, and alot of new crafts which you can unlock using the proper passcodes. The Millenium Falcon,Slave 1,Tie fighter and tie advanced for those who prefer the Darkside.also the enemy A.I. of the evil empire aircrafts will have you searching high and low in an attempt to "knockdown" these planes before they take you out! I rated this this game 5stars for the realistic flying and manuverabilty.and the fact that this is one of my personal TOP 10 Favorite games, however theres one drawback the levels you play-thru seem too familiar and not much different from the original N64 game if you have played the fist rouge squadron you might get easily bored with the levels in rouge squad 2. still if you own a gamecube i think it's worth while to own this game as well... I am an older gamer, so I suppose most everyone reviewing this game is squarely in the "kiddie" audience that the Gamecube seems to be aiming at.
For a kid, I guess it's a thrill just to be amongst the grand sights and sounds of this game, but as an older gamer... I was hoping for some good game design and that's just really not present.
The first, tedious level should be a warning. Go an play it in the store and if you don't like... stay away. A boring stage where you repeatedly shoot at towers on the surface of the Death Star to blow them up is following by a MIND NUMBINGLY boring stage that has you blowing up TIE fighters that do nothing but fly around randomly in formation, never attacking you and the only thing that makes them difficult to hit is that you simply CANNOT SEE THEM AGAINST THE BACKGROUND of the Death Star. You have to employ the Targetting Computer by holding down the poorly chosen X button and strain to fire.
It is followed by a long and boring trench flight where the same problems rear their heads. You can't see the catwalks due to an utter lack of contrast between them and the speeding trench. The Exhaust Port is invisible unless you hold down the targetting computer... and flying while holding down X and trying to shoot at the same time with the B button is not only akward, it's not any fun either.
Even with one of the greatest licenses in the world, LucasArts shows that they just don't know how to design a game. Think about the players, guys... think about the players. Would this even be fun at all if it weren't a Star Wars game? The honest answer is NO.
Wait for the used copies... there will be LOADS of them in just a few short weeks. If they aren't piling up already.

Let me state from the get go that I am a huge Star Wars fan. I remember seeing the original Star Wars in the theaters (sans the "Episode IV" tag line) in 1977. Sadly, the Rogue Squadron series, in my opinion, has been a disappointment.
The Positives. Graphically, there is probably not a better presentation on any home console to date. I love the overlaying of graphics with original movie footage. The detail it provides is amazing for the current generation of consoles. The sound presentation is also spot on. The sound effects of the films are accurately represented and give a genuine feel of wild dogfights in space.
Sadly, it is the dogfigts that ultimately doomed this game and the series for me. Too often I found myself lost in space not knowing where to go or what exactly to do. I often had trouble reading the scope at the top of the screen, would find myself flying sideways, or flying to far away from the action and then having the game reset my position. Appearantly I relied too much on the targeting computer (since I couldn't see anything) and would then be penalized for it.
The final nails in the coffin? Taking down AT-ATs (again) and those cursed escort missions! I just can't handle having to babysit poor CPU A.I. while having to fend off hordes of TIEs and other assorted Imperial weaponry. No thank you.
In my opinion, in the console market, the best Star Wars are Battlefront, Battlefront 2, and Knights of the Old Republic. The Battlefront series has a much better Star Wars feel of battle and Knights of the Old Republic has an amazing storyline. If you have a PS2 and Xbox (for Knights) I suggest these three classics. If you all have is a Gamecube and you want to play Star Wars, well, have fun . . . .

this game is totaly amazeing, it would take me all year to explain all the good points so i will talk about the bad things.
the only things i can say about this game that are bad would be the lenth. the game is quite short and for experienced gamers even though there is the bounus levels.
this game is very frustrateing and can be very difficult in parts, but is possible to get through.
various cheats give the game meany options, including flying the ties and enemy veicals. again i will say this game is toataly cool and should be bought by every game cube owner, whether they like star wars or not.
You gotta but this game!

This is one of the best Star Wars games I have ever seen. It is so realistic. While I was playing it, my stepdad came in and he asked, "Are you watching a movie?" and I said, "No, I`m playing my new game." Not only are the fraphics awsome, all of the missions are strait from the movie. Starting with The Death Star Attack, to The Attack On Endor. You gotta buy this game!
