This was the best game in the world to buy, once. But now, there is no point in buying it because there are newer games.STOP!If you want to buy this game, don't! Powerstone 2 and project justice are over a million times better. This game is weak... .

BUTTON MASHERS UNITE

This game takes no skill whatsoever. I won't get into the semantics of what Capcom games rise above the rest, but I think it's generally agreed upon in the fighting game community that the 'versus' series is for morons and children. I will admit that at first, I liked the game somewhat, but the noveltly soon wore off when I realized I could either carefully execute team moves and supers or just close my eyes and mash buttons and come out equally in the end. Another problem I had is that I don't have ADD, which is apparently needed to keep track of the (at times) 6 characters on screen.

Aside from the tired game play, the music is the worst ever composed for a video game. Capcom isn't known for it's scores (as is it's former rival SNK), but this piece of s**t takes the cake. From the obnoxious "I WANNA TAKE YOU FOR A RIIIIDE" to "DRIVE ME CRAAAAZAAAAY BUT I WON'T LET YOU GOOOOOO", you'll need to put your TV on mute if you bother with this.

If you like fighting games with some level of skill involved, play SF2T or any of the SF games. Hell, pick up Capcom Vs. SNK, the only GOOD versus game EVER!

I was at an arcade a few weeks ago and I saw a 4 year old jerking the controller around and hitting buttons randomly and he did better against the computer than most people would. If that isn't indicative of the game's mediocrity, I don't know what is.

A great idea ruined in the process

Being a fan of the previous versus games, I was initially exited when i saw this installed in the local arcade; and it kept my interest, for a short time.

I've read the other reviews, and spent a large amount of time playing it also, and everyone's greatest praise about the game is the fact that it has so many characters, 56 total. One of the many problems with having so many characters however is that there are a lot of glitches. Glitches you ask, where? Everywhere. Everytime someone does those "great" infinite combos, they are abusing invicibility frames. And the very sad thing is, the infinites are not even hard to do. Oftentimes, they requires jump-ins followed by pop-ups and juggles, making it like a game of tekken, whee! It would be okay if the game had some glitches, Street Fighter 3 Third Strike has the kara-throw glitch, and Capcom vs. SNK 2 has the kara-cancel glitch, but this game has far too many. I may sound bitter about the use of infinite combos, I will let you know that I know how to do them, and have done alot of them against other people, so it is not like I've had a few pulled against me and I hate them. I just find them very cheap play, and in the end lack a lot of skill.

Another thing, many of the characters were shafted in their port from their respective games (ie. The Darkstalkers crew, and, dare i even say it, many of the Street Fighter crew).

Control: The whole 4 button thing. All other capcom fighting games (excluding Capcom vs. SNK) work with a six button controller, why change it to four. Strong and Forward were always necessary in every other game. Peoples tactics revolve around the two medium buttons. With characters getting shafted left and right, I guess it doesn't matter right? Shoto-scrubs can still pull off their Shun Goku Sastu (Raging Demon) with Akuma. Less buttons to get confused with, right?

Music: Not the greatest, not the worst. The jazz isn't as fight inspiring as other fighting games like Guilty Gear X, whose music is fast and invigorating. The music however is not what judges a fighting game.

Replayability: As much as i dislike this game, i have to say there is a large amount of replayability. With so many different available characters in order to form your teams there are near endless combinations of characters. Sadly however, people will end up forming a team they like, and never stray. And with infinites, it means some of the lesser know, less cheap character wont see much play time.

Overall: If you were a fan of the arcade version, and want to shell out the money to play this thing at your home, by all means, feel free. I however, reccomend buying Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, which takes much much longer to master, and is so much more rewarding winning in the arcade using tactics than a winning with an infinite trap. Or if you are willing to spend the money to import (or have a ps2/gamecube/x-box) get Capcom vs. SNK 2, which with its 48 characters is shy of this game by 8, except in CvS2, every character can hold their own, and it is a treat for us SNK fans because we get to see a lot of our favorite characters with medium punches and extra animations.

Repetative!

This game is pretty cool, but it gets boring real quick. I got it a few hours ago and I'm here writing this review, so what does that tell you. Same 2-D graphics with 3-D backgrounds, 56 characters, and 3 on 3 combat are the games high points. I would not buy this game if I were you, but it is a great rental game. Playing it too much will drive you insane! Repetative!

56 Fighters, yaah...only around 15 are actually good

Marvel vs Capcom 2 is a huge game! It has 56 fighters but sadly a lot were fill-ins (can anyone say Serve-Bot). I expected better than to throw exact ports of old characters, what kills the 56 character draw is the fact that many were ported over AS IS with NO GRAPHIICAL IMPROVEMENTS and with NO NEW MOVES (Iron Man, Morrigan, Thanos etc.).

Some characters in MVC2 are rad like Guile, Captain Commando and the Resident evil girl but the others are mostly plain and dead. My biggest gripe is that characters such as Thor, Daredevil or Mr Fantastic are absent but cheap ports such as Thanos (who looks UGLY as well as Morrigan) are there. WHO CARES we want real fighters not add-ins!! MVC2 has sweet graphics, cool backrounds, fast action but too much cheap play. The partners who help are just abused and when they are I abuse them to the extent that when it is their turn to fight they have little energy.

The action gets old when you realise that only a handful of the 56 are actually playable and can compete in this game (beat the game on level 8 with a party of Serve Bot, Roll and Dan, I dare ya).

Overall I wanted deep 2D fighter with class but got a 2D fighter with too much reharshes. Its fun for a while but you'll move on. I recommend Power Stone 2

The only problem I got is with the control.. I also think the game could be a little better looking. sepcially Moragin or whatever. she looks to cheap in here.

but the control, what happen to my 6 botten's for attacks? I hate the new button control. I like the old street fighter control.

another thing wrong with this game. Why is there not an option to just choose one charicter? Cause it would be to easy?

somethings are just missing.. that shouldn't be.

and it also seems they are tunning it down for more kids. the woman don't seem to have the sex appeal they had.

Marvel Vs. Capcom 2: A mixed bag of good and bad

I've always loved Capcom's Vs. series games, but I must say I am somewhat dissapointed with Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. I object to the removal of medium attacks, even though it does make it easier to play on the awkward dreamcast controller. Some characters suffer more than others from it (a few have completely lost their ability to execute their launching move on command), while others seem to benefit from it (Jin gets chain combos out of the deal). I can't deny that this game is a lot of fun once you adjust to the new control style, but it still has problems. No personalized endings, gameplay which encourages cheapness over strategy, and pixelated characters will likely dissapoint hardcore fans. Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 does include every character from every other Vs. game, and more, which raises the fighter roster to an amazing 56 characters. The bottom line is: If you want quality, play X-men Vs. Street Fighter or Marvel Vs. Capcom. If you want quantity, play Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.

A massive effort turned a bit shallow

Chances are you've played any of the VS. series titles, including Xmen vs. Streetfighter, Marvel vs. Streetfighter, etc.

Well Capcom decided one day to mash in every single fighter from those games (literally) add a bunch to the mix, and make it a 3 on 3 affair. All in all, there are a whopping 56 characters, probably the biggest roster in fighting game history. With all these characters you can't really go wrong with the purchase.

But compared to other fighters made by Capcom and the now vanished SNK, this game falters in nearly every other aspect.

This game is no different from the other vs. series...except now you've got 3 characters at your disposal. You still launch your opponents into air and air raving/comboing their brains out by mashing on the 4 buttons provided (They removed the mediums)and you still bring in your buddies for a group beatdown. This isn't very deep gameplay, no matter how flashy it is, folks.

The graphics are basically sprite pulls from other games. We're still seeing the originals Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and a heap of others as they appeared in Street Fighter Alpha in 1996(!!) Due to capcom using low res, the characters are pixelated, even the new characters. Guilty Gear X this is not.

Backgrounds however are very beautiful, with very vibrant colors and much animation to boot.

Capcom's sound team must be bored as heck because they've kept the same sound effects ever since the Alpha series came out.

And the music is just plain bad. A bad journey into jazz instrumentation is all it is.

Gamers should turn to King of Fighters, Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter 3, or Capcom vs. SNK first before picking this title up.

Way too hard!

For used, this game is way too hard. The CPU is a cheap
son of a ... And, where it says 56 characters, pbbt! You have to unlock half of them. On the bright side, the graphics are incredible. The characters ar fluid and hand drawn & the
backgrounds are in hi- quality 3D. I guess it just takes some getting used to. Rent it. Or buy it if your a hardcore gamer.
