I'll make this review short and sweet...
The game play is fun, overall. The controls in my opinion can be annoying and not always accurate. Making Sonic go backwards is a joke at best.
The game is good enough to pass some time with but I don't look forward to playing it when I get home the way I do other Wii games...like Excite Truck or Elebits.
It's Great!

The game is full of great image effects and the sound quality is perfect. Besides, the game's design perfectly fits the new wii control features giving you the sensation of being in the middle of the action.

You have no idea how bad I really wanted to love this game. I thought, "A Sonic game for the Wii, how awesome will that be!?" Well it was fun for the first hour learning the controls, then it just became disappointing. This game is poorly structured and planned as if the creators just slapped something together to get a game on the shelf as quickly as possible. It seemed promising at first, then it just became repetitive and unorganized. The controls don't exactly work like they should and sometimes even move on their own. For example, I didn't move the controller on one level and Sonic was running his own course without my help.
You do not control Sonic's speed in the game, he automatically begins running on his own and gradually builds up momentum. You do have control over stopping him, jumping, power jumping, moving right and left to weave through obstacles/gather rings, and to move backwards. The power jumping doesn't work quite that well and to attack an opponent you have to push the controller towards the tv/sensor bar very quickly. It doesn't work every time which makes the game play very frustrating instead of fun. You hold the controller horizontally like you are driving a car and use the arrow keys to scroll through the menus, the 1 key to break, the 2 key to jump, etc.
As you complete levels, you gain access to other levels and missions. This seems poorly organized because as you unlock a level in one mission, it may unlock another mission, and you have all these scattered levels everywhere that you need to complete, not being sure of where you should go next. It doesn't seem to have a chronological order to it, you choose from the flashing "NEW" levels. Before you get to those you have to go through at least 3 menus just to see it.
There is a storyline here, which other reviewers have already covered, but I agree on the comments of the voice actors sounding horrible. I'm not sure if they used the same actors from the Sonic cartoon or what (never seen it), but it makes you feel like you're a 4 year old watching a Barney program on television.
I will say that the graphics are awesome and the levels are very creative. It's like seeing Sonic in a whole new light. It's too bad that the bad qualities of the game overshadow the good ones. I would say rent the game or get a good deal in buying it used, otherwise you're probably going to wish you spent your $50 on another Wii game.
fast paced, great graphics, cool game

My grandson loves this game. At 8 years old he found it fun, and challenging. Some levels are of course harder, but that's why it is fun.
The new Sonic is here on Wii!

I don't know how to say this but, this game will rock the set for all I know! Even though, this Sonic game will be a different feel from the other Sonic games but who cares right? As long as it's Sonic the Hedgehog, everything will be fascinating! This title of Sonic was originally gonna be called Sonic Wild Fire, just so you know.
P.S. But I must say, Sonic & The Secret Rings is gonna be a must buy, especially if you've seen it in commercials so much! I'll be looking to getting it when it comes out, so will you!
coming from someone who plays video games, ALOT...

All the 3d Sonics have been hideous. This game is no exception to that trend. Sonic the Hedgehog should have died with the Sega hardware. Instead greedy money hungry individuals drag what was once a great franchise through the mud, in an attempt to turn prophet off horrendously made sequels and spin offs.
HOW DEPREASING...

This game sounds like it is alright to me. The game is about Sonic and this other girl genie trying to get all of these world rings or something like that and beat this evil genie. A lot of the worlds have like the same level and that is kind of weird because it sounds you are doing the same exact thing like every mission. The music in the game sounds like it is some kind of rock music and stuff. Also, the mini games are hard to understand because it seems like a lot of them are confusing. Some of them it will tell you like how to play and it really doesn't explain it very well sometimes. I would rent this game first before actually thinking about buying it. But, anyway this game sounds ok to me. 3 out of 5 stars
Rather get a tattoo, or a crazy kitten.

One big disappointment! Sure it looks pretty, but so does a train wreck with a bit of color, shadows and if you look really fast and look away.
The controls are unresponsive, the actions too varied (like jumping and timing your jumps) and the velocity factor is inconsistent. I think the makers of this game either underestimated the level of hand-eye coordination out there or over-estimated it. After about 4 hours I gave up on moving backwards. I think it would have been more successful (for me at least) if you still had manual control like actually pressing left, right, forward or back, and not rely on tilting the remote controller. I don't quite see the Wii controller up for such a task. Not that there is anything wrong with the controller, but for instance, sitting up and laying down give two completely different gaming experience (from bad to worst).
Then there is the soundtrack. Why tunes with a "metal meets rock very badly done in a basement" feel? If you are struggling with a particular level (because of the inconsistent and varied actions), the same tunes just keeps repeating itself. Maybe a little collaboration with something (somebody) a bit more trendy and hip? I was hoping for something a bit more upbeat, sorta more in line with the "funkyness" that the game tries to portray. Sonic always had a stigma attached to it that will appeal to the trendy folk who listens to trippy house tunes...but this is no secret that the soundtrack sucks the biggest suck it can ever suck. And yes, I like alternative music, but its a big no-no here.
Bad story line, bad music, bad controls, bad dialogue.
The upside is that the disk makes one fierce coaster. Save your money people! Try it out when it becomes a "gamers choice game", which I doubt it will, but in order to get rid of all the surplus disks they will just stick "games choice" on the new inlay and con more suckers into buying this rather questionable piece of code.
