I've never really been a big sonic fan because all of his recent titles have been full of @#$!. Especially his next gen game on the PS3 and Xbox 360 which were plagued by a horrible camera, bad collision detection, long load times, and the fact the game just wasn't that fun. Now however the tables have turned. Sonic and the Secret Rings gets rid of everything that was wrong with the blue dude's previous 3D games by putting the hedgehog on a set path and bringing back the fun in the game as well as the feeling that you're going super fast.
The control scheme is also fun. You hold the wiimote on it's side and tilt it to make sonic move left and right as the blue blur constantly blazes forward. When an enemy pops up you jump and quickly thrust the wiimote forward to lock on to an enemy and kill it. This works extremely well an is very fun to do. My only complaint is it often won't let you target something you are directly in front of which is annoying.
It is very cool how the game is based in the Arabian Nights. It brings a new unique style. On the same note the graphics are very nice and some of the best on the Wii even though they can't match the graphics on the xbox360 or ps3.
However, Sonic and the Secret Rings is far from being perfect. First of all the music is AWFUL. The game tries to blend Rock and Roll with Arabian style music. This could have been cool but the Arabian and rock just wasn't very good. Also, the vocals were corny and detracted from the music as well. Another annoying thing is that the voice acting is bad and the cutscenes are almost painful to watch. Some of these problems are solved by changing the voiceovers to Japanese on the options menu which I highly recommend. The party mode is pretty bad to.
Despite it's flaws this is a fun game and a good way to spend 50 bucks.
AWESOME!!!!

This game is a huge amount of fun. With all the complicated video games of today, this is just fun. The controls work amazingly. Anyone who likes fun games, not shoot-em-up games should get this one.

I found I really enjoy Sonic and the Secret Rings. At first I started playing the game and was a little worried. You do not get to control Sonic directly, rather he always is moving forwards. The only exception is when you flip the Wiimote upside down, in which Sonic moves backwards. However, after a few minutes of gaming, I started to adjust to this. Slowly, the controls become a bit more natural and the control simplicity makes it have a slight retro feel. The game feels like one of the original Sonic games from a new angle. I really ended up liking the game. In addition, there is a story that is played through that paradies the Arabian Nights. It was humorous at times and added style to the game. I haven't tried the multiplayer features much, but it seems to be like most other mini game modes Nintendo comes up with. It almost looks like a Mario Party meets Sonic for multiplayer. Both the multiplayer and single player make good use of the motion sensor in the Wiimote. Overall, the game is incredible.

At first, this Sonic title does not offer too much from the basic principle of the franchise: speed. But with a little bit of patiente, and the right moves, the blue mammal finally becomes the fastest hedgehog in the videogame world. The main adventure will take 10 hours or so but there are lots of unlockable goodies to keep you coming back to this magic tale of arabian nights.
Nice graphics, a well implemented, although a little bit flawed, control scheme and eigth big worlds, make up for a worthy entry from the Sonic Team.
Recommended.

This game is great, but timing is everyting. I've always loved sonic and I still do. The only problem is control. When sonic glydes after a jump and plans for a homeing attack you can't really control when you want to attack the target. If the target is blowing fire you really have to time your jump perfectly and flawlessly.
I also wish there was someone to see what's about to occur, like if a pillar is going to fall you won't know. You just have to avoid it by jumping or stopping and speeding up again. You can't tell when something is about to intterrupt your progress.
No guide needed all you need to do is find out how to use the rings and you'll be ok. I am.

Well, looking at all these other reviews, I guess this is a love it or hate it game. I for one LOVE it! I think the music is awesome. The story is a little strange, but whatever, the levels and game play are way too fun. The challenge of the game varies from easy to pretty hard, as would be expected when you get further and further into a game. I have had no problems whatsoever with the controls. I believe that those that have problems with them are too impatient. Like they've said, the Wii-mote is sensitive. The further you get into the game, the more skills you obtain, making your control beautiful. I recommend this game to anyone looking for a Sonic game with a different and fun twist to it.

Much better than any of the more recent 3D Sonic games, but no where near as much fun as his old-school 2D adventures. Definitely a step in a right direction for the franchise. Control takes some getting used to.
The Best 3D Sonic Title To Date

Sonic was huge back in the 16-bit days. His leap into the 3D realm wasn't half bad, but suffered a bit from losing a lot of what made Sonic..well Sonic. Each entry in the series after Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast was worse and worse. Horrible new characters were added and the soul of the series was lost.
I am happy to say, this isn't the case of Sonic on the Wii. This entry in the series brings Sonic back to his roots--speed. All of the annoying characters are regulated to cameo appearances and can be playable in the multiplayer party mode. Although some of the design choices in levels are a bit off and the camera has a few issues, this game is a definate step in the right direction.
Anyone who is a fan of the series will love this game. The Wii motion controls are nice (except going in reverse can be a bit wonky) and the game gives the blue hedgehog a glimmer of hope to become what he once was. Skip the 360 and PS3's horrible Sonic games and give this one a go. Its Wii exclusive and the environments and the graphics are some of the best the Wii has to offer (that is until Super Mario Galaxy comes out)!
