Kids seem to really like it

I got this game for my kids because they really like Sonic the Hedgehog and they seem to really be enjoying it. It looks like it's fairly difficult, but they have made a fair amount of progress. It isn't like the Sonic adventure games in that there is no chao garden. My kids really love the chao so it's a shame that there are no chao in this one. That's the one thing that would bump it up to 5 stars. It has a bunch of mini games. I have even tried the mini games and they really are great fun. Overall it's a great game.

They would have been better off re-releasing the old Sonic games

I hadn't played a Sonic game, since Sega Genesis was in its prime - and I loved all of them. Those games were simple, but fun. Sonic & The Secret Rings for the Wii, however, is absolutely terrible. I forced myself to get through the "Lost Prologues" (basically tutorial mode) to actually be able to play a level, forced myself through a few levels, and had to shut it off.

The story was abyssmal (c'mon - some evil person is stealing the words off the pages of 1001 Arabian Nights - who, let alone Sonic, cares?) They would have been better off having no story. And the worst part is that I couldn't figure out how to skip the story scenes - I had to watch them! It was nice to hold the controller sideways, but I agree with another reviewer about the absurdity of having to shove the controller forward to kill enemies. It just doesn't mesh with the rest of the controls.

Thankfully, I rented the game and thus, didn't buy it. I was so disgusted I even returned it the next day. I didn't even try party mode, but I can't imagine it being worthwhile. Bottom line: do NOT buy this and don't even waste your time renting it.

Am I the only one who enjoys this game?

I really enjoy playing this game....the colors are so bright and vibrant, i like the fact that you are a basic hedgehog in the beginning and you have to unlock the skills/levels based on how you perform. the controls are very intuitive...tilt left to run left...tilt right to run right....jerk the remote to jump....stuff that people do when playing any game on any console...it really puts you into the game....yeah there are some things they could do better....like allowing sonic to turn around instead of just walking backwards...but that's just something petty...it has plenty of replay factor...i'm going through the levels again with better skills to earn more EXP and earn the medals and fire souls i didn't collect the first time through so that i will be more prepared to fight the boss in the end...to me, besides Zelda and rayman, its one of the best games available for the wii....definately worth the 50 bucks.

Ought To Be A Whole Lot More Fun Than It Is

Although this Sonic game is certainly better than recent ones, it still isn't too good. There's a little to like here such as the incredible graphics and huge worlds. The music is only mediocre as well as the story lines and voice overs. The real downfall is that no matter how well the rest of the game is designed (and it's decent), it doesn't come together if you can't actually play the game. Of course you can play... but not very well. The controls for the Wii just don't work. As you are playing, you begin to think to yourself: "This could be a great game, if only I could play with a standard controller!". The wii-mote just doesn't work here, and therefor the game never really gets going because you have such awkward control over what's going on. In general the game is great, but unfortunately the problems with the controls are so central to the gameplay that in the end Secret Rings is really just an average game.

As an avid Wii user, let me say, this game isn't worth 50 bucks. SEGA failed as a game company for good reasons, as this game proves. They just don't know how to make a smooth, fun, nice game. Save your money for some great upcoming wii titles - super paper mario, metroid prime 3, super mario galaxy, smash bros, etc. There are going to be much better ways to spend 50 dollars in the next few months. Trust me.

A very intense game

Sonic and the Secret Rings must be the fastest sonic to date. You go FAST, but it takes some time to get to Sonic's maximum speed. You start out going fairly slow in the beginning of the game, and as you progress, you become faster as you level up. Acceleration, top speed, and movement from left to right all increase drastically by the time you reach the right levels. By the time you have all the powerups, you're going so fast, you need to play even more just to be able to react in time.

Overall, the game has a ton of playability. I'm a very experienced gamer, and, although it only took me about 10 hours to get through the game itself, it took me an additional 44 or so to attain all the gold metals, which was no easy task. The game offers fun and challenging gameplay to keep you entertained. There are hundreds of unlocks, and I've still yet to obtain them all, so if you're looking for a game to tie you over for awhile, 100% in Sonic and the Secret Rings may rival Twilight Princess' 100% completion time.

Graphically, the game is stunning. Surely one of the prettiest-looking Wii games to date. There are some wonderful colors and effects that give the game life. Along with the wonderful graphics is a catchy soundtrack. I've seen that many have expressed their dislike for the music, but many of the songs just add to the experience so much. I find myself playing certain levels simply because I like the music there.

Sonic and the Secret Rings is certainly worth the buy. Its party games are not the best bunch, but it's the Adventure Mode that you should be concerned about. The controls are said to be a little wonky, but I honestly have little trouble with them after playing enough. It's a game I play a little every day or so even after achieving most of the unlocks, just for that great sense of speed that only Sonic can deliver.

One word would be enough to descibe this game: FUN
It seems that SEGA has saved the best of the speedy hedgehog games on Nintendo's platforms: Wii and DS. This game is a must-buy for Wii.

First Motion Controlled Sonic Game

Sonic and the Secret Rings is the first "Sonic" game for the Nintendo Wii. The player must steer Sonic thru seven different levels (plus one tutorial level). Each level has multiple challenges, ranging from easy to hard. The controls are intuitive and easy to learn for players 7 and up. Sonic and the Secret Rings also offer's several Multiplayer games, which consist of short Minigames comparing to those found in games like WarioWare. Overall, we are happy to see Sega's blue Hedgehog return to his roots of jump and run gameplay. The game does become more difficult as you progress and the motion sensing controls are not without flaws.

Sonic And The Secret Rings is a great game and to "Master Fatboy" Sonic is nowhere near his demiese. Great gameplay, great control, great story, great (but sometimes cheesy) music and great graphics. this game will blow you away with it's greatness! Nuff said.
