i played this game about 3 days ago and i am sold. when this game omes out i am gona buy it couse this game got it all. think of it as driver with racing not cop evading.the grafix are gorgeus and the citys are totaly huge.i totaly love the drive around mode. the citys are about three times the size of ones in the citys in driver. you can also drive a numder of really cool cars. and unlike driver there is a 2 player mode in this one. if u liked driver and u are looking for a nice racing game for the PS2 you should really consider this one.
A real blast. The best PS2 racing game

I have Ridge Racer V also, and Midnight Club is much more fun. It's fun to race around the streets of Manhattan (where I live), and the gameplay is fast and furious. My only complaint is that the map of NYC isn't accurate, they've removed a lot of detail. The graphics are cool, and the cars are fun to drive. A very easy game to get into, but it's not easy to win. I played it for about 4 hours after getting it yesterday, and it's a blast to win races and get some of the cool new cars, but it does take time to beat some of the racers.
Reccomended.
A fantastic game with accurate maps of famous cities

This game is truly a PS2 treasure. Race through either New York City or London (they should have more city/location selections though) and do whatever you want. Ram into cars, push them into lakes and rivers, get chased by the police, etc. This game rocks.
In story mode, I guess that's what you call it (I forgot), you must cruise through New York City and chase yellow dots (special cars) enough times until they're convinced you're material for a race. Once you race them you must follow them and get through their "homies" until you beat the starting race. You win the car they race with after you beat them in each race. Each race contains 3 races within it, and within each, if you win, you win the person's car. Police chase you, as it's an illegal activity to race through the streets of N.Y.C., ram cars inadvertently or intentionally as you roar after the man/woman you're chasing or just speed ahead of him/her. Colorful characters populate the game, such as the funny Emilio, who taunts you as you race him in an accent. As you get higher in N.Y.C.'s Midnight Club rankings you eventually go to London where you continue cruising for some action and racing people.
In 2-player mode I have had a lot of fun. In N.Y., you can visit the U.S.S. Intrepid naval ship docked, and there's a ramp you must cross to get there. Except it's cut off from the ship to the harbor, and you must build up speed and drive off the ramp to the ship. What my friend and I do is build up traffic, take the cars and shove them off the ramp. Buses, garbage trucks, oil tankers, police meter maids, taxis, vans, firetrucks, even Mr. Softee the ice cream man.....they are all victims. In London, there's a building with 3 entrances and my friend and I call it the Wall of Cars and place cars in the 3 entrances and pile them up and eventually they are stuck.
The cities are very accurate, not 100%, but I'd say 89%. The graphics are great, and the soundtrack is pretty good. A very fun game.

This game has been the funnest racing game that I have ever played. I skimmed through some reviews & found some people (hardcore gamers) getting technical stating that it is a little unrealistic, graphics could be better....& so on. There are so many elements to this game that just amaze you. First of all, the layout of the cities are so detailed and accurate! I have been to Manhattan many times. While driving through the streets of New York on this game I saw certain landmarks that I recognized right away such as the Guggenheim museum, Central Park, Times Square, the bull statue on Wall St. and other minor landmarks & buildings. The attention to detail in this game is another thing that hooked me.....various talking pedestrians, all types of vehicles (buses, police cars, cabs, ice cream trucks & more), garbage cans, parking meters, fire hydrants & much more. There are several playing modes such as arcade mode, head 2 head racing, waypoint....in which you race against 4-6 racers, touching all of the waypoints to the finish line, capture the flag (my favorite) and finally career mode...in which you gradually upgrade your car by winning the car from the racers that you beat. The capture the flag mode gives this game a lot of replay value even for 1 player. It is basically playing tag while you are driving your vehicle. If you pick up the flag, you have to drop it off at a given point without being bumped by one of the other drivers....or you'll lose the flag. If you do not have the flag, you then hunt down the driver that has the flag. The map is useful in all modes, but is especially useful in Capture the Flag mode.
The are also many vehicles to choose from once they are unlocked, including some comical ones such as ice cream trucks, meter maid carts, buses & a cab with an enormous plow on the front that knocks almost everything out it's path! Oh....also the dune buggy from Smuggler's Run can be accessed if a Smuggler's Run game is saved on your memory card. I know there is a lot more that I write about this game....but trust me, it is a load of fun!
Yeah Baby! This game is huge!

When I first started playing the game I thought, "Man there aren't very many cars," but after I kept playing, and went really far along, the variety of the cars, that became available, was staggering. There must be close to 50 different cars! My favorite is the Amato Crescendo with 15 nitros! Also the Marauder taxi with the cow catcher is great for tossing cars and pedestrians. I found that car after stumbling across, what looked to be, a magical fountain and driving through it. There are a lot of hidden shortcuts found in the strategy guide. Jumping INTO the aircraft carrier, launching off a super jump in time square, and jumping over the river from a gigantic ramp on a powerplant in London, are just a few of the super fun factors in this game. Buy this game, stick with it, and you'll have the time of your life!
THIS GAME IS GREAT

At first I was skeptical when I started out with the slow taxi but as I won my faster cars I started to change my mind. The size of the cities are huge. You can go where ever you want! The best part is you can explore inside the buildings, drive on roof tops, find jumps and short cuts. The best jump is right in Times Square! Awesome. It makes the track racer games seem boring. If you want something new this is it!
Funnest PS2 game I've played yet.

Situation: You've just purchased an Amazon bundle pack with Madden, RR5 and SSX. You invite some friends over the day you get it in and try out the new games. Everyone's excited and ready to have some fun. You pop in the games... Madden: You don't like football, so this game is a waste of time. RRV: Looks nice, especially the skies in the second level, but after playing for a half hour you've only seen two monotonus tracks which are, um.. variations of the same track. SSX: A little more fun than the others, but it takes everyone a while to get the hang of it, and no one does very well.
(some aspects of the above story were modified for dramatic effect)
Too bad I didn't have this game for my 'Check out the Playstation 2' get together. This game, while not quite as pretty looking as RRV, is a lot of fun - and that is what we play games for? I've owned it for about 3 hours already and I've actually gotten somewhere and enjoyed it! I've played RRV for about 3 days, forcing myself to get though it - and while I feel accomplished when I do finish a grueling Grand Prix, I can't say it was 100% fun.
Ireally appreciate the fact that the races (so far) are generally short - so when you need to race against someone 10 times before you race them it hasn't taken a week - and you CAN replay them as many times as you want without having to replay prior levels. (My biggest problem with RRV is that I can usually breeze through the first 3 races of a GP, but the 4th is always trouble - and you only get 4 tries before you have to go through the first 3 levels again. It just takes so LONG!)
I would definately buy this game if you enjoy arcade-style task-based racing games. Even my wife likes it! The fact that we live in New York City certainly doesn't hurt! Too bad you can't really drive down 105th st!
This game makes me happy that I wasted so much time getting one of these systems!
Love racing? Get this one.

I have played most of the racing games. First of course is Gran Tourismo. Midnight Club is the one to keep it. It is not only brainless running in a circle like in NASCAR racing but you have to think a little your racing strategy. A lot of fun. Good graphics, fast action.
