You can actually win races in other racing games

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 0 / 0

Please keep in mind that your rating of my review is on how HELPFUL it is, not how much it coincides with your opinion of this game.

I own a few racing games - most of them are simple, as in, step on the pedal, don't hit the walls, and you win. This game is certainly not as simple as that, in fact, it may be a bit too difficult.

Midnight Club mostly involves you following another car around a city you select. The city graphics and true-to-life city maps are pretty nifty. However, I found it difficult to determine where the race begins and ends, and thus usually impossible to win a race.

In the beginning of the game you are crippled with the worst car possible, in comparison to every perfect-driving computer opponent with a car two classes more powerful and manueverable than yours.

I don't consider myself a novice at driving games, having played out Crazy Taxi and Gran Turismo, but it was only through sheer persistence that I managed to win only two races during the week I had the game before I returned it. It wasn't fun struggling through the many many races before I won, and I certainly did not feel rewarded for my efforts.

My advice - Skip this title and try Crazy Taxi or GT3.

This game is great!

The cruise mode alone is awesome. In the cruise mode you can drive around and do whateva u want for as long as you want! And the cars you unlock are awesome! I highly recomnened this game for people who love racing because you play cocky people 1 on 1 to win their cars and stuff. A+++

Midnight Club is Good, but it Freezes

The game is great, just read the other reviews, but I have to mention one problem with it. If you plan on playing the game for over an hour and a half, don't get it. It freezes after you play for that long. Otherwise, it's a really good pick.

And the best streetracer game is:

Okay, this is a very enjoyable game. The graphics are excellent, with the cars looking almost real, you can drive anywhere -- including through buildings. This is a very straight-forward game, you race your cars against "seasoned" streetracers, move yourself up in the world, as you do you get the deed to their cars in special races.

My big problem with it is, sometimes the jokes that the characters throw out while are funny the first time or too around -- after you get into several races with them they start get very tiring very fast. But thast has nothing to do with the gameplay itself.

You do have to be careful of some of the cars -- they all have their own "flaws", but if you can learn what they are and how to work around them you can actually get them to work for you.

OK Game...

I bought this without renting...to tell the truth, I was expecting a bit more. The graphics on the back of the box look mindblowing..but when you load this game up, it just lacks shine. Running at 30 frames, it's OK, but it can do better..60 frames. Now that would be great. In this game, you do same thing over and over..gets boring. So if you don't to do things repeatedly, don't buy this.

great game, but takes time

this is a really great and fun game. there are a lot of cool modes in this game such as, career mode(where u race others for their cars), cruiz mode(where you just drive around the city),etc. this game takes time. it puts up a challenge. to get the opponants' cars, you have to be like a good driver(i wanna say) and aggressive, b/c they will try to spin you out and try other sneaky stuff. over all i really liked this game. but the only thing is, you really have to try hard. so, i would suggest buying this game.

The best racing game for PS2

If you want to have that exhilerating feeling of racing through the downtown area and freeway of two big cities in two different countries, this is the game to buy! Midnight Club: Street Racing is simpily the best racing game and very close to being the best Ps2 game out right now! It provides for hours, even months, maybe even years of fun. It has great looking police vehicles, buses, meter maids, fast pacing sport cars, doulbe deckers, and taxi's. You have to earn all the cars, which will take a while but is very rewarding. It has several diffent games to play in arcade, and also includes a career game. Midnight Club: Street Racing has a sure future of being a Ps2 Classic!

When I first saw this game, I really wanted to get it. When I finally got it, I thought it was very fun. Atleast until I had played it for a few days. That's when it started getting boring. It was way too easy. I mean, you know, I would always beat the guy I'm racing against. And getting the secret cars was a sinch. I think anyone who likes to get through games VERY quickly should buy this. You'll get through this pretty fast, unless you haven't played racing games before.

Good thought for the game, but the product not the greatest

After reading several reviews on Amazon.com and couple of other web sites, and then finally maing the purchase, and actually playing the game, I'm somewhat disappointed in its design, gameplay and the story. I've expacted a little more. Truely graphics need to be improved, they don't look like PS1, but need major improvement. Gameplay is simply okay, but the story and the plot of the game could be done with more sense. I personally hate the idea of chasing some guy around NYC for couple of longer minutes, before he finally stops and tells you, that you can race him. The game itself is somewhat confusing as it lacks good instructions and what the objectives are.

If I were to rate this game by gameplay, design, etc. here is what you can expect (on a sacle from 1 - 10):

Gameplay - 6
Graphics - 7
Sound - 7
Fun to play - 5
Value - 8 ...
