This is sweet plus sweet cars. Choose between New York and London to race at or cruise. Hint: go to London in cruise mode.
Go to the skinny part of London where the river curves. Drive around and find a red building with advertisements on it. Drive around and find a ramp drive up it jump it at 35mph try to land. Look at your right see a pink light drive thru it slowly hear a sound you unlocked a new car its Kuruma Faasuto GS.
Best racing game launch title for sure

At first I was skeptical when I started out with the slow taxi but as I won my faster cars I started to change my mind. The size of the cities are huge. You can go where ever you want! The best part is you can explore inside the buildings, drive on roof tops, find jumps and short cuts. The best jump is right in Times Square! Awesome. It makes the track racer games seem boring. If you want something new this is it!
a truly terrible game

you know those missions in GTA3 where you have to race to grab the most checkpoints? thats all there is to this game. Only you can't get out of the cars to blow stuff up. There is absolutely no reason to purchase this game, especially if you own GTA3.
I got it for free and it was overpriced.
Uninspired

I can't quite bring myself to give this game the 1 star I feel it really deserves.
Dull graphics. Boring cars. Repetitious play.
I bought the title because all the reviews of release race games were worse. This one does NOT deserve it's current 4 star total. Part of the problem is the style.
You start off in New York (London is locked) and the streets are too dark and too empty. If you've been in New York you'll realize, this isn't it. First, the Cabs are NOT the slowest cars like they are in this game, they pass everything and cut you off. The traffic is not seldom and light, the intersections aren't all empty. Still, this aside, I'd take a "not very real" NYC if it was fun to drive in. The city they gave us instead of New York is dull. It's bland. If they called it Cleveland, Ohio would be upset about how sleepy they made it.
Secondly, the style they laid out for the game [is not very good]. You cruise around and find a car to race. Follow it (you can't win) long enough and they let you join them in a checkpoint race. Win the checkpoint and you can race again to win the car. Unfortunately, your first car can only hope to win against one of the several cars circling aroung, but since they don't let you look at the stats until you own them you don't know which one. You chase superior cars with no hope of winning far too often. (hint, to start chase the lowrider, truck, then the civic-looking-thing and win each car before you challenge the next. You can't hope to skip a car, they're too much faster.)
If you're bored enough to keep playing you'll eventually get to London. It's more of the same until you'll want to shoot yourself.
Go with SSX if you want to go fast. Don't waste your time with this race game.
Not next generation. Gets dull.

Well, this definitely comes bottom of my launch title purchases. Get SSX. Get Smugglers' Run. Wait for Gran Tourismo 3. Get a Dreamcast and play F355. Don't buy this.
Good things about the game: * The cities. Having lived in both New York and London, I'm very impressed at the detailed reproduction of both cities. Its so good that driving around London I could find my way around based on how I knew the real place. * The speed. It doesn't slow down. At all. Ever. Zooming the wrong way down a highway at top speed is plain scary. * The graphics are pretty good. Especially when the road is wet it looks fine indeed. If you look closely you'll see repeated textures a lot, and some areas of town are very sparsley textured indeed though. The car models are relatively detailed and very very shiny. Perhaps too shiny sometimes.
Bad things about the game: * The *huge* load times. It grinds for what feels like forever loading the city map before *each* race - even if you haven't changed cities. I don't know why it couldn't keep most of the city data and just load course waypoints or traffic.. It feels like its reading data off vinyl, not DVD-ROM. * Its not like driving. Not at all. I guess it has what you would call a very "arcady" feel to it, but its not at all convincing. * Frustrating difficulty. Now I'm no loser when it comes to racing games. I worked my way through the whole of Gran Tourismo on the 'ol PSX. The annoying thing about the way this game plays is that at some steps you can only just beat the other guy - and I do mean only just. You can maybe go 1 mph faster, or corner marginally better, and its just a case of making a perfect performance, or retrying again and again until the other guy hits traffic. * Short 1-player game. I'm half way through after 1 evening. Now we're at the frustratingly difficult stage of beating a city boss, and then its rinse and repeat and its all over. * The sound. A minor gripe, but the cars all sound like lawnmowers, not beastly souped up cars. It doesn't do anything to add to the atmosphere.
I don't think this is a next generation title. There are definitely better PS2 games out there. If you have to have a racing title now, I'd probably plump for Ridge Racer V which at least is outstandingly pretty, but to be honest, the PS2 doesn't have its killer racer yet. If you're carefully choosing your 3 launch titles and minding your dollars, I suggest you don't include this one.
Almost a Substitute for Driver...

I loved Driver and Driver 2 on PS. My favorite way to spend a couple hours gaming was to go for a ride around the featured cities, just exploring. Midnight Club almost brought that experience home to the PS2 for me. Unfortunately, though the graphics are much better than the latter titles, the cities (only two, New York and London) in Midnight Club are too small and don't have the same atmosphere as those in the Driver games. Regardless, some of the visuals in MC are jaw-droppingly gorgeous, like the rain/wet tarmac effects. wow. Another great thing about MC is that in some small way, it satisfied my hunger for Gran Turismo 3. MC is one of the best first generation PS2 titles.
Good game

I got this game through Hype and the previews of magazines, and I must Say What a Disappointment!! The gameplay is horrible compared to what the ps2 and decent games are capable of. The graphics are ok but the cars just ...... I would not recommend this title to anyone. I have played this game for an hour and must say got bored with it almost instantly. Even with the Gameshark codes with all the cars unlocked it was horrible. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! The reason I even gave the game a 2 was the graphics alone, and even those could be a lot better.
Love racing? Get this one.

I have played most of the racing games. First of course is Gran Tourismo. Midnight Club is the one to keep it. It is not only brainless running in a circle like in NASCAR racing but you have to think a little your racing strategy. A lot of fun. Good graphics, fast action.

Now, don't get me wrong, this is a fun game. But only for the first day. I have played other racing games which have kept my interest for more than this. As for buying this game for a launch title... get something else.
