THIS GAME HAS IT ALL!!

This game has awsome graphics. They are amazing. There are many characters to choose from. The short cutscences are very cool. It is a constant action packed game which keeps you coming back for more. The battles can be long and furious or short and quick. In one battle, you can kill 1,000 people. This game is a must have for any action gamers out there!!

A new kind of beat 'em up

I became addicted to Dynasty Warriors 2 at E3 this year, where I played it for several hours. The game is a radical departure from the first one, given that it's not even in the same genre. It's a beat 'em up, not a fighter. Picture a canyon in China. You, a high ranking officer in an army of several thousand men, are about to lead the offensive on the enemy castle. Your men (there are different ranks: Captains, Sergeants, Privates, etc.) bravely follow your charge. Until, that is, the enemy comes into view. Suddenly, the screen is filled with (literally) hundreds of detailed warriors killing each other. Your troops fall back to regroup, and you're left alone in the middle of a horde of swarming enemies. You whip out a special move and crush the lower ranking guys, but an enemy general has spotted you, and you engage in battle. After you take his head, the enemies lose their morale, your men come rushing back, and you storm the gate. You mount a horse and charge. That's what this game is all about. The only reason I hesitate to give it five stars is that there are only three buttons. Jump, attack, and strong attack. But who needs more buttons when you've got fully 3D graphics, advanced AI, two giant armies, and a big spear? Anyone who played Final Fight and liked it will enjoy this game. So will anyone who played Romance of the Three Kingdoms and wished the "Duel" option was more hands-on.

Um...so what is the big deal anyway?

I rushed out and rented this game after reading the reviews on this site. Anxious to try a game compared to the likes of "Kessen" by the same company, I have to say that I am pretty disappointed.

But this game seems like it was cloned from the PS1 version in a big hurry to get to market. The graphics look very super-imposed on their background, and the fighting is very unrealistic, in the sense that you can just jump into a crowd of people and start swinging away --- including not even harming your own teammates. (Can we have a tiny bit of realism here?) The character auto-animation is odd...characters just take random lobs at each other instead of actually fighting. Finally, there are very limited moves to choose from.

If you must have this game, please rent it first.

The coolest thing since the popcorn maker !

I recently puchesed a PS2 and since then ive been renting all sorts of games, but I have to say that Dynasty warriors 2 is about as good as they come. Its a good mix of stratagy, action, and KOEI even through a little bit of first person shooting in there! Graphics are awsome, although in the heat of battle there is somthimes graphic break up and slowdown. Gameplay is outstanding! Despite what people say,you CAN do tons of moves...There are 2 main attack buttons plus a special attack, an in air attack, and a running attack...Plus you can whip together some wicked combos leaving your enemies stunned or just knocking them 20 feet in the air!
There are plenty of characters to choose form, 9 starting ones and if you put in the right codes (or you can get them legit but i dont know how) you can get almost 30 fighters! Another cool aspect is the jump butten which will come in handy when your army is off pickin strawberries and your surrounded by like 100 enemey fighters. The enemey generals are hard, and you are often faced with the decision to charge in or stay back and fight with your fellow warriors. Much like an RPG,you get stats in this game to.The stats are picked up when a general is killed be it your own or the enemies .But weather you like hacking up dozens of enemies at a time with your weapon, or sniping them off with your bow, or just trampleing them on horseback, other than a few minor flaws (like the repetition) I strongly recomend this game for any1 that is familior with the Romance of the three kingdoms series or just likes to kill stuff. With a difficulty selection, this game is nothing short of a challenge!

ahhhhh the game for the warriors

Are you into hardcore games with awesome graphics, loads of killing, repeating moves, impossible bosses, battlefield scenarios, no strategy, and bad AI? Then this game is for you. It looks so great on the outside, but once you get at least knee deep, you realize the total failure. This happpens about the first time you lose. You can even lose without dying. But how? Well, the worlds worst AI makes it possible. Your team actually brings their leader into the thick of the battle all the way to the end, and guess whats waiting for him at the end? An impossible boss! Your low ranking soldiers don't even fight each other, they wait and attack 1 by 1 at an important guy. Their men do the same, they are all after you and the important guys on your side. Wait, theres more, if some how in your onslaught you get stuck, and don't have enough life (they give it to you only when you don't need it, and then it dissapears) you might decide to take a trip back looking for pots that you can beak which might just have a little life in them. Well on your trip you might just notice the hundreds of men on your side who are running back and forth serving no purpose, and not advancing to where the fighting is. This gets your mind running, "why do they give every special guy except you an army?" All you get is two body guards who die in 5 seconds.

However I did give this game 1 star. It is fun for the first few minutes. It can be pretty funny. And the greatest part is stealing a horse and riding around on horseback, trampling every guy you see, until some guy from the crowd jumps 10 feet into the air, clears three people, and still has enough hang time, to swing his staff and knock you clean off your horse.

Overall this is a pretty bad game and it only deserves one star.

Man, this game is so fun that it even beats starcraft because the grafics are super good and outstanding performance in the battle areas. This strategy game is the best I've ever played. If you are looking up a strategy game only for Playstation 2, you must indeed buy this game. The old fighting skills of the samurais and the Chinese and Japanese warriors truly showed the real action at that ancient time. The pics on the dead warriors truly show the cruelness on how people fought back then. Man, the first time when I played this game it really brought the spirit in me on the strategic maps of how soldiers from different directions are coming. Its like World War 3 except its not that futuristic. In this game you are the total controller in your nation and the military arms like units of soldiers. Watching this battle scene really brought the spirit out of me because the story lines are great and its so realistic. So I recommend this game to all strategy players or skilled players like me who beat the whole game in 30 hours of nonstop killing and conquering. Buy it people, its really tight or sweet. I really mean it....

I don't get it.

You walk around, plowing through enemies with your weapon of choice while a hundred other on screen characters run around like chickens without heads or just stand there like zombies. The landscapes are boring and the infamous 'fog' that won't let you view past a certain point is thick. Hack, cut, heeyah, repeat. Hack cut, heeyah, repeat. Fun? No, boring.

OK game...

Not a great game. But good. What's so bad about it? Well, first it's not much variety in the game. All you do is fight, with the same moves all the time. Fight fight fight...you can easily kill over 300 enemies in one stage. How boring!

Graphics are ok also. There's no slowdown. However, you cannot see much ahead of you...

Bottom line, if you like to sit there for hours and just "fight" with the same moves over and over again, then so be it.
