DOA2 brings back the excitement that is missing...

I enjoy a good fighter as much as the next person. But there are some fighters I thoroughly enjoy more than the next. I played Streetfighter and Mortal Kombat and loved (almost) every minute of it. (How do you enjoy getting beaten by the hard, cheap characters or the bosses OR your buddies?)
After MK went downhill and SF3 lost all it's flair (SF2 and it's various editions were the best), there weren't any games out there that caught my eye. Not Bloody Roar, Tekken, Soul Calibur (it almost did...), Capcom vs Marvel or Capcom vs SNK... I did enjoy Streetfighter vs X-Men, but that is way old by now. Buy you get the idea. I didn't enjoy fighters for quite some time.
DOA2 was a whole 'nother story! Figuring I would try out one of these 50 cent fighters to see if they were as GREAT as the magazines and everyone said they were. Well, I found that DOA2 was simply an awesome game. It brought back the fun that I had when I first started playing Streetfighter or MK2 and MK3.
So what was it? The fighting was pretty swell, with the fairly simplistic combos and so on. The characters looked great, the best polygon characters I had ever seen! The backgrounds were great, it was in Japanese (I played in the arcades originally) and it was just so much fun! I realized that I would buy a PS2 just for this game. Course, when the PS2 came out, well, I let it slide for a few months...
I have to admit, I did own the Dreamcast version. I think the graphics are comparable. There's a little difference between graphics, but I'm not sure what. The DC version seemed 'lighter' while PS2's version seemes to be darker. And it doesn't have to do with the tint control of the TV!
While I believe this is the best fighter currently available (we'll see about Project Justice or Rival Schools2 when that arrives). This is a MUST BUY for all systems. I haven't seen a DOA2 for PS2 used and even the DC version, there aren't THAT many out there.
I think what would elevate this game into mass popularity like MK or SF is all the extra promotion involved. Comic books or figures or anime... That will do wonders for this particular franchise. I love this game. Maybe if there was a decent Streetfighter available, it could get DOA2 a run for it's money. DOA2 may not have the depth in terms of story, but the action will keep you addicted. If Tecmo gets a story together and gives us a reason to like the characters (more than visually, ahem), then... DOA2 can stand above the rest of the fighters out there.
If you like to fight... this game is just right!

First of all... I am a young reviewer. So, NOW that I got that behind me, I can start reviewing the game. When I first got PS2, this was the 1st game I played. I played until I had a headache, and my eyes hurt. The graphics are great, game play is fun, different modes and challenges keep you entertained for hours! Plus, I'm always excited when I discover a new costume for one of the characters. A lot of fun... at least is was for me. I have to say you HAVE to get this game! I find it better than Tekken Tag Tournament, which is considered the best arcade style fighting game out there!

This game has the best moves. If you're looking for a fun game to play and not too interested in a plot, great game. Some games are just fun to play and not have to think too much. This is one. The characters have some really cool moves and it's a lot of fun to play 2-player. Can't say it has any plot at all but sometimes you don't really need one.
THIS IS THE BEST FIGHTING GAME YET!

I waited for others to try this game-out first...that was a bad idea. This game is excellent! The graphics and game play are up to speed and I have spent many hours on it and have not tired. Tekken is good but DOA is BETTER! Pick this game up ASAP!
Can't go wrong with this one...

First of all, yes, you heard right - the women are hot. But come on, they're just computer animation, guys! None of the costumes I've unlocked so far warrant buying the game on their own, sorry to let you down. Now that that's out of the way, this game DOES warrant buying on the merit of the game itself. The fighting system takes a little getting used to, but the heavy emphasis on reversal attacks makes it extremely interesting and fun to play over and over. Another great thing about the fighting system is that once you start a combo, you aren't locked into one sequence in order to complete it (a la Tekken, my former favorite fighting game). You can change things up and surprise your opponent in the middle of the combo. The graphics are awesome, very clean and fluid for the most part, even the detail in the arenas. One of the best features of the game is the plethora of interactive fight arenas. Some of them allow you to throw an opponent through a wall or window or off the side of a building, down to a lower level where the fight continues. Some of the levels also feature generators and things that you can throw your opponents into for keen explosions and added damage. The game offers a lot of different modes, including an awesome tag team mode with great 2-person combos (you have to see it to believe it). This, added to the extra players and costumes, picture gallery, etc. that you have to earn, make replay value on this baby quite high. The stories and endings tend to be short and generally pretty lame (that and the lack of non-human fighters are the only reasons this didn't get 5 stars), but the rest of the game is great. You don't play a fighting game for the story anyway, right (and have you ever seen ANY fighting game with a really good, coherent story)? The English dubbed version (which you can switch back to Japanese with subtitles if you want) is amusing, but not as bad as some people say. Bottom line: If you are into fighting games, get this one. If you are looking at getting into fighting games, start with this one. You'll have fun getting into it, and even more fun as you get better. You can't go wrong with this game.
Great Graphics, Good Moves, Dumb Story line and Voice Acting

This game definatly shows off the PS2's graphic capabilities. It looks great! The moves are pretty awesome too. Hard to access alot of them though (for me at least, not a avid fighter gamer). But the storyline is abysmal. Maybe 4-6 chars have a storyline that makes sense and the rest are just movie clips to show off the PS2. The Voice acting for this game is about as bad as the storyline. Buy the game for the fighting not the storyline and mute the voice acting and turn on the subtitles.

DOA2 Hardcore is the must have for fighting game enthusiasts. It has all the fast paced action of Tekken without the steep learing curve and a Street Fighter-esq Anime feel. My 47 year old dad can play this game no prob, and even beats me half the time. However, the Story Mode and most of English voices leave much to be desired. The good thing is that the much cooler Japanese voices are included, and as for Story Mode...Who plays Story Mode after they've gotten everybody's C3 & C4?
OT: It'll be interesting to see how SEGA's Virtua Fighter 4 fares on the PS2.
Good game
