DOA2 Kicks ***, Literally!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 3

DOA2 is one of the best fighting games I've played, and I go back as far as when Street Fighter 2 first hit the arcades. The animation is fluid, the graphics are top-notch, the music rocks, and most importantly, the gameplay is awesome. Also, it's relatively easy to learn. And just seeing some of the tag moves makes me cringe. You'll see what I mean when you tag Tina Armstrong and Ryu Hayabusa, starting the tag move with Tina, and being close to the wall of the arena. Major ouch!!!

Two minor gripes, however: first, the AWFUL (English) voice acting. Who thought of the garbage coming out of the fighters' mouths? Someone at Tecmo should take a hint from Konami with the quality of the voice acting in Metal Gear Solid. Then again, we're not playing the game to listen to the voice acting.

Second, the stories themselves in Story Mode either don't make sense, or are just completely stupid! I never played the first DOA, so I had no clue about any of the fighters except after reading the instructions. Seeing the in-game cut scenes didn't help my situation. But again, we play the game for the fighting, not the stories.

I would like to have seen more secrets other than the 2 hidden characters, extra costumes (however I haven't opened all the costumes yet) and the babe gallery (whoo hoo!!) But I'm having a great time seeing all the different tag moves. Hopefully, Tecmo will add more worthwhile goodies in DOA3, if there is another sequel. The only improvements I'm looking for in the sequel are the voice acting and stories. And maybe they could add more characters to keep pace with the Tekken series. Other than that, keep up the good work, Tecmo!

The lurning curve is steeper than Tekken

This is a good game with great graphics. The combos in fights are harder than Tekkens and get this, if you want to counter, you have to push square and the same buttons that your opponent pushes. On DOA3 on XBOX they made the countering easier by just pushing 1 button. The modes on offer are single player, two player, tag team, survival and sparring and probally more. You can watch CPU bots go at it to see what the game has to offer. You can also kick oppenents through cenenery such as stained glassed windows, that makes the game alot better.

If you're are skilled at fighting games by stringing together combo's then this is worth 5 stars.

DOA3 may be out, but DOA2 still owns joo...

Graphics-The charcters are great, especially the clothing and there's a lack of any clipping. But the best part would have to be the arenas (Especially the Aerial Garden). It's awesome how the water splashes as the people fight and they thought of pretty much everything in here (Reflections, etc.)
Gameplay-Heard some complaints, but this game handles fine and the counter system is a nice touch as long as it isn't overused. But this game is probably best with a few friends.
Sound- Switch the voicing to Japanese, trust me. The Engilsh is just a bit awful.
Story- Not really a story, but hey, it's for the fighting not the storyline but they could do a better job.
Overall- This game is definetly one of my favorites. And yeah, while the women are a plus, you can't deny the fact that this is one of the better fighting games. There's a few flaws here and there but it's easy to get over it.

Two words...

Fscking Sweet. This game is so much better than any other console fighting games on the market it ain't even funny. The action is w/o a doubt the fastest in the genre, though I haven't had a chance to get my dirty hands on Tekken 4 yet. Sure hope Tekken 4 lives up to hype.

BTW, big bouncy boobies. Sweeeeeet.

hardcore - - damn right!

This games is just like the Japanese game the graphics are horrible. I got my Playstation 2 two days ago,and I put in DOA 2:Hardcore first I was so disappointed I was about to take my Playstation 2 back, but luckly I played SSX and I didn't even think about taking it back then. The Dreamcast game is better. I took DOA 2:Hardcore back and got Tekken Tag Tournament. The graphics were a little better.

Dead or alive 2 was a port from the dreamcast version its graphics were not enhanced. It looks exactly like the dreamcast version and plays like the dreamcast version. The game was written for the dreamcast hardware its a poor port wth no extra characters and no improvement to the terrible control scheme and bad combo system. If you really want this game get the dreamcast version instead. Tekken tag tournament is better anyway.

GREAT FUN FOR TWO

This is a great game, great graphics, sound, movment, and action, but after playing it for a while by yourself gets a bit bores, but if your going head to head with a mate, it is real fun, becuase it gets more complicated than fighting with the computer, so if you only have one controller, go to the store and buy one now, and call your friends.

One Star Down For The Dialouge

this game kicks major [...], but i had to take off a 'star'. i played this at my cousin Ben's and the dialouge just [was not that great]. the people talking give no effort what so ever, i'd rather here the Japanese dialouge. if u only have a ps/2, then buy DOA2: Hardcore. but if u have Dreamcast, buy DOA2 instead.
