Too bad this was my first PS2 game. The graphics are awesome (which is why I bought the game) but the game moves are a bit difficult. If you are a ball fan, and want to play a quick game between the end of your job and the start of your team's next game, I'd reccomend sticking w/ PS1 and MLB 2002 and Triple Play. -- c'mon

the game looks great on the box and in the reviews, but when u play it there's just something missing. it's okay, but nothing more than that. the stats, draft and season are great, but the actually gameplay is only so so.

i like the sim type games sports games where i can have my own seaon, make trades, follow the league leaders and try to win the title and when i look at the game description for asb2k2 i start to drool. the problem is that the actual play of the basbeall games is boring. the time between pitches takes too long, the pitcher batter interface is limited to one behind the plate view. the batter is supposed to guess the pitch type and location and the angle the bat before and during the pitch and then move the cursor to the correct pitch location while simultaniously hitting the swing button (there is only a swing button, u need to chose power or regular with a separate button as part of u'r hitting process). gimme a break, u spend so much energy trying to hit the ball u r exhausted when u finally make contact. the fielding looks stupid, guys dont move naturally and there is an invizible zone around players that allows them to pick up balls that should get by them. the baserunning is pitiful. after all this u r probably wondering why i gave the game 3 stars. it's still playable and all the ratings are relative based on the competition, technology available and the fact that not everyone has the same standards and demands the same quality in a particuler genre of games. i hear triple play is awful and they havent improved it in years. that 3d0 stuff is supposed to be good on the computer but i was not impressed with last years high heat so i doubt they'll get it right on ps2 in their first attempt. sound effects are lame, commentary is lame but the stats r good. the probablem is, to enjoy the stats, u need to play 162 games of medicore no frills baseball. all the good points of this game are not worth mentioning b/c the weaknesses criple it. if u r a die hard baseball fan just rent a few baseball games and hope for a better game next year, unfortunately that's what i've been saying since baseball stars on nintendo. if u know what im talking about then u will agree with this review 100%.

Might want to rent this game first!

I saw the screen shots to this game and thought it looked awesome! But when I purchased it, I was very disapointed. I think All Star Baseball 1999 for Nintendo 64 has better graphics then this game. The players are so small, that they don't look real, and when you get a close up of the players, they all look the same, except for their batting stances. Also, if you are fielding a ball in the outfield, after you catch/field the ball, the player will wait a few seconds before doing a crow hop to throw the ball to wherever you're throwing it to. The fielders in the infield take their sweet time throwing the ball too! Another disappointing thing is the trades. You can't do a 2 for 1 or however many. It must be a even trade. Also the Starting pitchers almost never get into the 6th inning. I played as Freddy Garcia, and gave up only 3 runs, but he ran out of gas in the 4th inning. And the fans look like they are from regular Nintendo game. Horrible graphics. They don't even really cheer if you get a rally going. There are many other dissapointing things to this game, and I could go on and on. I go for realism in a baseball game, and this game is very unrealistic. I just wish I wouldn't have spent [money] on this and got some other game.

Not Great, Decent!

I was hoping this would be the end all of all baseball games, but it isn't. Pitcher hitter graphics would rate a 4/5, it looks decent, not as good as Madden graphics though. I would recommmend you rent this game and wait until next year to see if the end all of all games comes out. I would hope for a game like baseball stars playability but ps2 type graphics.

Cool feature: controller rumbles when out of strike zone for pitching

Bad Stuff: I can't find a franchise mode, does it exist? graphics bad for fielding balls, guys small and don't move realistically players look ugly when they throw, not realistic player move so slow when fielding, and sometimes they are far from the ball but it miraculously gets scooped up bad camera changes for fielding sometimes, when ball goes down a baseline

All Star Baseball 2002-PSX2

I also tried all the different baseball titles out this year for the PSX2 and NONE of them are even close. As for All Star, I actually thought it was pretty good-the game plays realistic but the game/player graphics are dull and flat. BUT, about 3 weeks into a preseason I discovered a MAJOR FLAW. You can't create any players in exhibition or series mode (that would include the playoffs) and you can be ONLY ONE TEAM in a season/playoff. What a Catch 22, well, I am sending mine back to acclaim to get one I can return for my money back. Dont they realize people have friends who don't want to spend an entire season being one teams opponent-while being denied a chance to run their own team.

Not the game which I have expected. This is sad.

Sadly, this game is worse than ASB 2001 in Nintendo 64, I think. I wonder this game use the advantage of PS2 enough to build better games than N64.

Until ASB 2001, each teams used to have up to 10 minor leaguers, and that is frexible to change. Each teams used to have "disable list." In ASB 2002, both of them are gone. Each teams in ASB 2002 just have 25 rosters, just like Triple Play.

Second, like the recent Triple Play series, this game do not have "injury." This didn't make me feel good. I felt like ASB 2002 include kind of a bad thing from Triple Play.

This game still has some good thing, though. One is that we can fix starting lineups easily. We can have lineups for right handed pitchers and left handed pitchers. We can easily platoon some players.

Also I enjoyed to create Ichiro Suzuki and Tsuyoshi Shinjo as custom players.

Overall, the graphic is awesome. But I felt like this game is just a "better game than Triple Play."

Great Game......could be better.

This game is a great looking game....after renting Triple Play Baseball... I thought to myself that this game could not be worse. (Coome on; Cannon's firing when you hit the ball...not what I'm looking for in a baseball game) Graphics are great; Stadiums are great; Gamplay is OK....Baserunning is horrible. But the reason I gave a 4 star and not a 3, 2, or 1 is because this is the best baseball game availiable on the PS2. Rent before you buy.

OK...

This game is okay because it's not too easy oor too hard, has decemt graphics GREAT Detail! Right down to the advertisements! Especcially my favorite park of themall YANKEE STADIUM!Good anamation, but not nearly perfect.BETTER than high heat 2004!(the overall game). What ASB 03 and ASB 04 dont have is Tony Gwynn and Paulie Oniell and Big MAC and other guys like that. Also theres a Hall of Fame Team (only living ledgends) (plus Catfish Hunter). There are downsides, though, NO FRANCHISE MODE! only a season mode but you can make it less than 162 games.Something you can't do in ASB 04.While this game has incredible realism and is pretty fun to play youll get tired of it after a while. I'd buy )03 orASB 04 insted but the best cherap game around is ASB 02!
