Save your money for All Star 2003

Let's get one thing straight. This is by far the best looking and feeling baseball game every made. However, the feilding control, or lack of it should make you want to sharpen the edge of the disk and hack your wrists to put you out of your frustrations. But what... wait look how GOOD this game looks the batting interface is the best ever, it's so smooth. Wait... I'm fileding again For the love of God put me out of my misery. If I go into a coma from the blood loss please wake me up when All Star 2003 comes out and they can fix the fielding bugs. and before I slip into a deep dark sleep tell all your friends settle with Triply PLay until 03 comes out.

stupidest game of all

[....]Any team can become the champs of all the teams. You can be the darn expos and be about 100 games above 500. The sliders break too much and the curveballs are just between a change up and a fastball. the first one you throw is always awesome. Acclaim needs to make the game a little harder. The batting stances are outta wack. The brewers my favorite team is underrated(of course). With good players you hit 500 homeruns a year. on the back of the box they say franchise debut but there is no franchise [....]

Best Baseball Game

This is by far the best baseball game for PS2. None of the others are even close. This game has so many options and different set ups. It is a very fun game. The only thing i didn't like about it from the previous ASB's is that in emotional moments like a game winning home run, its kinda shrugged off. On the previous ASB's there would be fireworks and crowd noise, which is absent on the new ASB. The game is simply over now when an emotional moment occurs. Other than that this is an awesome game.

This is the best game I have ever played

This game has amazing detail. you can tell that they a whereing baseball spikes the player animations a the best I have seen. The computer keeps the games close. The players are not exactly even hitting from both sides of the plate. The player actually stick their gloves out to catch. this is the most realistic game I have ever played. I you find one that is better tell me please!

After playing Triple Play on PSOne since TP 98, all the way up to 2001, and being a huge fan, I decided to switch over and try a new baseball game, based on all the bad things I had heard about TP Baseball for PS2. I tried ASBaseball 2002, and I'm so glad I did. Here are a few reasons why..... 1.) My stats are real, except that my Astros have Bagwell with 41 HR, Hidalgo w/ 37 HR and Alou w/ 35 HR and they're batting in the .410-.385 range (at the All Star Break), the other hitters are truly realistic....Biggio-.350 10 HR, Spiers-.285 4 HR, etc. BUT let's compare that to a Reds team I was using with TP 2001....I finished up Griffey's season with 80 some-odd homers, and Bichette, when he was a Red last year, with 60 something. Bagwell has cooled off for me this season, and hasn't hit one in quite a while. Maybe he'll end up with 60, but not 80!!! Pitching is realistically controlled. My stats are accurate...Reynolds 9-5, 3.47 ERA, Elarton 8-6 3.56 ERA, Lima 5-6 4.87 ERA. Not 22-5 with Steve Avery with a 1.12 ERA on the Reds in my TP season last year. Regardless to say, I dominated the NL Central with the Reds. This year, my Astros are 5 games above .500 (49-44) Very realistic, and I'm 7 games out of first. (Behind the Reds :-(

2.) The stadiums are AWESOME...biggest reason for getting the game!!! Home runs don't disappear as soon as they cross the outfield wall. In Enron Field, they bounce off the huge left center field wall, and in Fenway, they bounce off the Green Monster, and it's not a home run....TP 2001 awarded you with a HR and it didn't even go over the monster!! Very realistic HRs. Balls can bounce off things over the wall and come back onto the field, but are still HRs.

3.) The minor glitches in the game should not take away the fun of playing this game for months while you finish a season. There are a few drawbacks to this game, don't get me wrong. (You can only use 1 team in a season mode....you can't occasionally play another team's game, you can't choose alternate jerseys or throwback jerseys during a season, only in exhibition, each team only has 1 throwback jersey, so if a team is away, the'll wear a throwback white uniform, also, some teams alternate uniforms are wrong for home/away..the Marlins wear their pinstriped sleeveless home uniforms at my Enron Field, and the Astros NEVER wear their alternate orange colored jerseys that they wear like twice a season!!!)

Just buy the damn game!!!

Good graphics, frustrating game play

This game has the potential to be a very good one. But from my perspective, there are problems that make game play frustrating and exasperating. Maybe it's just me. I'm sure there are experienced gamers out there who have no problem making this one click. Admittedly, my only other experience with this type of game was an old Nintendo baseball game, which I found to be a blast.

On offense, it seems I'm forever hitting infield squibbers, which result in easy outs, or inning-ending double plays. When I am not squibbing or striking out constantly and finally do connect, the hit is usually a long, high fly ball resulting in another out. And the defensive players are all all-star caliber players who never botch a play. I find I'm spending most of my time on defense, futilely trying to get my players to make plays. And it seems I am forever having to pitch out of bases loaded jams.

On offense, you are facing the opposing pitcher from the perspective of the catcher and not the hitter, as you should be. Consequently, it is very difficult to track the ball in the strike Zone. All you can do is move the batting marker around the strike zone in various configurations and hope you place it where the ball will be pitched. Purely a guessing game with the odds stacked against you. You need a team composed solely of players like Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire to even stand a chance.

On defense, once a fly ball is hit, all you see is a marker showing you where the ball will land. You have no idea where the nearest player to the ball is so that you can respond. Consequently, a lot of these result in hits. And as the opposing team runs up the score as yours stagnates, it's easy to lose heart well before the game concludes.

The game provides a "Batting Practice" option, which I find to be totally useless and unrelated to game play. Actually, the most fund aspect of this game is the "Home Run Derby" where American and National League players compete.

This was good thats final

I am going to make this short and sweet, the baseball games on the PS2 this year are definitely below the caliber that they should be and Triple Play and All-Star were two big dissapointments to me...don't get me wrong, ASB has good graphics and gameplay but there are little things wrong in every part of the game that make you feel like your not playing a PS2 game.....First of all.....fielding is nearly impossible with some of the camera angles that they give you and it doesn't even look like they catch the ball....Those are my two major gripes about the game....Otherwise, the graphics and gameplay will make you feel like your at the ballpark......To conclude, if you want the graphics and the top quality brand name....buy Triple Play Baseball......but if you really don't care and want a very realistic baseball game to enjoy, then maybe you should check out All-Star Baseball 2002.....

nice batter/pitcher interface

first of all you shouldn't write a review until you are playing this game on the most difficult setting. When you first start playing it seems like too much offense, but then you learn how to pitch and increase the difficulty setting.

This game has some annoying bugs (e.g. not being able to make the turn at first on some hits to the outfield, and the computer's pickle ability is [bad]). The craziest bug I saw was the batter came up and was wearing his fielding glove! Somehow he was still able to keep his grip, and got a hit :)

I've played this game approx. 15 hours. And the batter-pitcher interface has kept me interested. I'm giving it four-stars b/c it is worth the [money] although it is not perfect.
