After reading everyone's reviews, I went ahead and bought this game. The starting menu's are vague and difficult. Trading players is awful. Granted, when I started my first game, as the visiting team, and my leadoff batter came to the plate, I thought they had made up for it. The detail was amazing, but batting was uncomfortable. Then, when it was my turn in the field, I was shocked. It was like I was playing Bases Loaded for Nintendo! What is with these camera angles? How come my Left Fielder is catching balls a good 10 feet away from him without diving? Why doesn't the computer ever take a freaking pitch? All this leads me to new questions: When will MLB 2K2 come out? This game is horrid, save your money.

The Best Baseball Game Out There... Period.

Baseball games need to be a few things.

For one, they need to be realistic. They need to be realistic looking (this one looks beautiful), but more importantly, the gameplay needs to be realistic. ASB 2002 is like watching a real game on television. Play it long enough, and you'll lose yourself in the actual "game", the teams, stats, details and artificial intelligence are BEAUTIFUL! Another thing a good baseball game needs is controls that make sense, and ASB 2002 is a winner in the control department as well. I had the controller figured out in under an hour, and from there on, I was hooked. The detail level is breathtaking, from names on jerseys to team mascots dancing on the sidelines.

On the downside, there have been a couple times when I felt like the controls didn't totally respond to what I was shooting for, but I should also say, that happens in every sports game I've ever played.

All in all THIS GAME IS A HOME RUN. Its got occasional quirks, but they're nothing compared to the overall fun, competition and repeat playability. ASB 2002 rules. (And if you're thinking about getting EA Sports Baseball, don't. I played that for about three hours and was bored -- ASB 2002 is money well spent!)

for the most part its a pretty cool game, the graphics are awsome. the sound is excellent. pretty easy to figure out. the only big downside of the game is there should be more camera angles and they should have had the same player control that was offered in the n64 version. (i thinks the n64 controls where easier to use). besides for that the game is very fun to play. it feels just like being there. maybe in allstar 2003 they will fix those problems and maybe add a more detailed creat a player. then the game will be perfect. i do recomend this to all baseball fans.

The best out of 3

The game play has a few problems but stadiam and players look real. The create a player mode is great unlike HHBB2002 which has none. The options in season play are great and you can have a stort season or a long season. It really lacks in the camera views and gameplay. When the ball warps into a players hand when the ball is two feet away is unreal. A speed button is needed to help for baserunning and fielding in the outfield. The thowback uniforms are pretty cool you can go back to being the old brooklyn dodgers. The best out of 3. But always rent before you buy!!!!

All-Star Baseball 2002 a must-have

Akklaim made a real winner here- baseball games don't get much better than All-Star Baseball 2002; it's the best I've played.

The graphics of ASB-2002 are great; both the stadiums and players are very detailed, and between innings you saometimes get surprised by a dancing mascot. Commentary is decent. There are other cool features in the game, such as Hall of Fame teams. The batting and pitching interface is also very good. The batting target allows for easy control, and ASB-2002 is the first game I've played in which pitchers have up to six pitch selections. Even more impressive is the accurate batting stances and pitching styles for individual players, including Luis Gonzalez's open stance and Orlando Hernandez's high leg kick. Fielding in the infield and outfield can get frustrating, and there are a few quirks, but with time you should get used to it.

The greatest feature of ASB-2002 is how realistic it is. With the game's magnificent graphics and solid gameplay, you truly feel like you're in a real baseball game. At the top difficulty level, game scores can vary from 12-10 to 2-1. AI opponents can be quite challenging and rarely do they make stupid decisions and actions.

Overall, All-Star Baseball 2002 is very satisfying, especially for major baseball fans. I was immediately impressed with the game when I first played it and, comparing it to other baseball games like Triple Play, I found ASB-2002 to be superior. You should not be disappointed.

When I first opened the game and put it in I was a little surprised. After playing Madden 2001 I had very high expectations. I also played triple play for the ps2. Triple play's gameplay is boring. You can't hit for contact or power. all you do is put the batting cursor to the ball and it does the rest for you. I will say that the sound is great except for the bat hitting the ball. It sounds too much like a cannon. The players look good but the fielding is terrible. Although the stadiums are good the gameplay is boring. With allstar baseball 2002 i found the gameplay to be very exciting. The pitching is so realistic compared to triple play. Anyone who says that the batting or fielding is too hard hasn't played the game long enough. It is so easy. I have my season on all star (the highest level) and i'm 65 and 31. Justice has like 68 homeruns. The gameplay gets to easy and isn't a challenge to me. The fielding is ok in the game. Although a player gets a ground ball 5 feet from them it doesnt ruin the game. The diving cathes make up for it. So get past the not so perfect fielding and play the game. Acclaim can make a lot of improvements with the game next year. Im looking forward to it.

only ok. it could have been much better.

the positives: the game is realistic and a true baseball simulation. the graphics are pretty good and the controls generally are smooth. it also has high re-play value

the bad: very limited options. on the back of the box you are led to believe that this game has lots of options. sure there are 7 camera angles, but you cant control them. the 7 angles automatically appear depending on where the ball is hit. sure they have classic uniforms, but you cant select them, they just randomly appear during the season. also, there seems to be a split second time delay when fielding which takes a little getting used too. the game is realistic, but not for star players, iam 20 games into a season with the A's and Jason Giambi has 23 hrs and 41 rbis, but all other players have "normal" stats.

bottom line, if you are a baseball fan you will like it, if not, dont bother.

All Star Baseball 2002 is the best game ever. You will not belive the game. It looks like your at a real baseball game. They have all the new players but not Ichro. Also, the statdium as such good detial that the fans are moving and in the ballpark that have waterfalls you see them good. Also, at Arizona Feild if you land a homer in the pool you see it in it. In this game the yankees have Mike M and Alfonso Sorino. You get evry palyer. I would say if you love sports (baseball the most) this is the right game for you.

better than Triple Play

With the baseball season in full swing, I decided to test the baseball market on PS2. I found out that Triple Play bothered me with it's sluggish gameplay so I tried All Star. I found a solid baseball game with a lot of depth. Team mascots, accurate batting stances, and easy to pick up fielding and pitching controls. Even with the difficulty set on rookie, it was a challenge. Even if I am beat, I am in awe of how solid it is. Grant it when you field the ball it could be 3 ft away but he will come up with it, but with such minor flaws, does it really matter. The commentary will leave you speechless and the extra animations will keep you interested for hours. Until something better comes along, this is the best baseball game on the PS2.
