Well not really but still one of the best games i have ever played, this game almost has it all: Good voice acting, a beautiful storyline, very scary, the graphics are off a little but nowhere near bad enough to mess up the game. Oh, and please buy this game, it rules!

It's resient evil with a dino twist

My dad originaly baught this to play himself but after three days of not getting around to it I decided to give it a try. From the first video this game pulls you in and dosn't let go.First off the larger videos have exelent graphics the gameplay graphics are pretty good too.Second the music sorta makes you want to keep looking behind you're shoulder(just in case.)Next there are three endings, four costumes and a mini game to unlock so you're getting aot for you're money.Last this game keeps jumping out at you wether it's a twist in plotline or a Raptor smashing through a window.O.k. we've covered all the pros now it's time to talk about what sucks with this game.First you're weapon selection is pretty slim. You get a handgun a shotgun and a grenade gun blows do'nt it.Next you might find you'reself strpped for ammo when you need it the most it's not as bad as Resident Evil but it's bad. Finally some of the puzzles or chalanges you will face are nearly impossable to get through so you definetly want a player's guide.Other than those downsides I highly recomend you buy this game.

Too many puzzles, not enough action

To tell the truth, I bought this game hoping it would be like Resident Evil, only with dinosaurs instead of zombies. In some ways it was; you play as an agent named Regina who gets trapped with her team on an island overrun by dinosaurs. But there were a lot of differences, too. I didn't think the game was as scary as Resident Evil, probably because you hardly ever run into any dinosaurs. I also thought the puzzles were a bit too technical.
At one point, you have to get the fingerprints of a dead researcher in a scanner, then take the scanner to a computer with an ID card and get a higher clearance level than the one you have. It sounds neat, but in reality, it was a pain. There are dead bodies all over the building, for one thing; when we first realized what we needed to do, we had to just wander around checking bodies (like we were going to remember which specific body was a researcher!) Then, we had to worry about getting the right ID card (yes, there's more than one!) and the right computer. We ended up having one person read from a walkthrough on the internet while another followed the directions word for word just to get past some parts. Overall, it was a decent game, but I thought it put too much emphasis on the puzzles and not enough on action. Bottom line: if you love tough puzzles that really make you work, you'll love this game. Otherwise, be prepared to be really, really frustrated.

A different type of game

If you like blasting enemies, watching tons of amazing FMVs, and having fun in a game of average difficulty...you won't find it here. Seriously though, this is a pretty good game.
Some people compare this game to Resident Evil, while they really have little in common. This game is different in many ways. First, the areas are not pre-rendered. Some people don't like this, but I actually liked it better, it made the areas seem more real. After walking around for awhile, you won't even notice. This also lets the camera move in ways that add realism and make you dizzy. For example, cameras will follow you down halls, fly towards your face, move along side you, and go in circles as you walk across rooms. This gives you the feel that you are in a still camera game like Resident Evil AND in a behind the back camera game like Zelda or Syphon Filter. The polygonal areas also make all the areas seem more metallic and empty, like you really are in a deserted compound with dinosaurs moving around the halls. Secondly, there is a real lack of enemies, and a real lack of ammo. Depending on what type of player you are, you will see a dinosaur every 2 minutes to 10 minutes, most of the time they will jump out at you for cheap scares. The three dino types are really unevenly mixed. You see the Compys about twice, the T-Rex about 4 times, and the Raptors about 20. As I said, a dinosaur every 2-10 minutes. That means that this is a very short game, taking about an hour or two to beat. Thirdly, this game is extreamly puzzle oriented, and the puzzles are NOT easy, often taking many tries to figure out. That brings me to another note: Use a guide to prevent yourself from breaking your controller in half. This is a very rage inducing game. Lastly,is the disturbing lack of FMVs. With about 4 total, the game is lacking but it makes up for it in half an hour of cut scenes. If you want action, play Dino Crisis 2, if you want a different, fun game that plays like a novel, buy Dino Crisis.

FUN CHALLAING AND not much action.,,(i would like more)

yes this game DOES NOT HAVE MUCH ACTION. this game is basically a game for pepz who love puzzles. i was a littel disapointed but the game was still very fun. it remindes me of final fantasy5... goes on and on and on. you think you are at the very end of the gmae and then suddenly something happens and you figure out that you are only half way through the game. but this game is MUCH more creative then most games like this. insted of need card key get card key it is get finget print scanner find dead body scan finger print and make key card on a computer.the AI level seems to bet better too. the dinos can follow you like marys littel lam into some other hall or room and scare the [daylights] out of you. this game has a lot of surprises too. you never know when a dino is going to jump through the window and start chewing on your arm.the game does not have many dinos thougn. the only ones they have are the littel tiny ones that bite your legs off and kill you before you know it , the medium sized villosorapter which likes to chew on your head, arms or dead carcasses. and then there is the big grey thing that i have not clue on how to describe.(it is small compared to the GIANT t-rex)this game also has a problem with weponry. you have about um.... 3 guns in the whole game. the pistol shotgun and grenade launcher. there is also ammo problems. i would be fighting my head off agains 3 velos that followed me and i have 3 bullets in my pistol and none in my shotgun or grenade launcher....so i run run run as fast as i can the velo cant catch me cause i have a electric fence that i just opened and closed down when i got in.... that is the only way of ecscping a vellosorapter. so this game is REAL HARD but worth trying....you should rent that game and try it out....(you will not beat the game when you rent it cause i usually do and it came as a surprise that i could not beat it in a weeks time of playing......) well i hope this review was helpful to you lata

The hottest game with the hottest main character ever!

Dino Crisis is a game for people that like to be scared. Frightening sequences like a T-rex busting into a room in a second story building to eat you in one bite to a velociraptor jumping down from the ceiling of an elevator onto you are a small sample of the scares you will face. The storyline is interesting and unique, but young people will probably not understand it fully. You are Regina, a very attractive redhead with a wardrobe that will make you say yum! This is overall a masterpiece and I really enjoy it.

Really terrifying, intelligent dinos, detailed cinimatics

Steven Spielberg proved that Dinosaurs could be menacing and terrorizing and this game only adds to it. This game is similar to Resident Evil (also from Capcom), but more dangerous, because the dinosaurs actually run and jump over things to eat you, unlike sluggish zombies. Rather than stalking screen to screen like with Resident Evil, you can now run through a room and the camera will follow you, making for great chases (Dinosaurs chasing you), but unfortunately this leaves the player at a great disadvantage, because the camera is focused on the player, not the room, so Dinosaurs constantly get the edge lunging onto the screen. A huge plus to the game is the production, because hard work went into making this game and story excellent. The cinematic scenes to start with are of a higher quality and are very detailed, from breezing hair, brushing plant life to seeing the scales on a dinosaur. The dialog is not cheesy or over acted as in other survival horror games. There are nice visual details which no screen shot can show, such as the lighting effects are realistic, a light sources (computer screens, ceiling lights) illuminate on whatever the source hits. An unfortunate detail of this game is that whether you are bitten, clawed or pounced on, you can actually bleed to death without proper medical supplies. Another downfall of the game is that the item screen is not as neat and tidy as Resident Evil's screen. This new system is rather difficult to use. Finally, with the start screen there is no cinematic introduction that will tip anything in the game to the player.

One of the best survival horrors ever made!

This game may be one of Capcom's best! The detail is picture perfect, with blood splatterd walls and mangled corpses that slowly ebb away your confidence as you continue through the dark facility. This game makes you fear for your life as you get into the feel of it. It is best played in the dark with a wide screen TV to add to the effect. I have never played RE, but I think I will after playing this game. The game can be almost Silent at times, then suddenly you open a door to another room and ghosty music blares, at that point, you know your not the only being in that room as you hear the distincive raptor growl and footsteps racing towards you.
You are on the edge of your seat through the whole game, never knowing what will happen next. You could be walking down a balcony when suddenly, the vibration function kicks in on your controller (if you have that kind, its best if you do) as a gigantic T-rex steps into view. You run towards the nearest door only to find out the door has locked, to your horror, you realise you must keep Mr. Rex at bay as your lucky computer buddy in the control room tries to open the doors.
This is an all-and-out wonderful game with multable endings. I recommend this to gamers who want to give themselves a scare as they have fun at the same time. ;)

One of Capcom's greatest games, re playability very high.

Dino Crisis is like resident evil in the sense that it is "survival horror" but it is much more than just a RE copy. This game is very intense and in depth with it's story line very easy to follow and understand.

One of the greatest things about this game is that the dino's depth of detail is great, AI is very impressive. Predators will follow you through doors until you either out smart them or they kill you. Thrashing, charging, tossing, and leaping are just some of the ways your enemys will challenge you. The T-Rex can instant kill you or stomp you to death, birds will pick you up and toss you around in the air if you are unable to dodge there attacks. All the attacks and designs of the dino's make you wonder if they were ever really extinct.

Another cool thing about this game is you can mix different items to make darts. Some will temporally put the enemy to sleep, stronger darts will put them to bed permently. When a dino is put to sleep you can walk up to it and do "point blank damage" the closer you are the more you do. Not only can you make darts but the same weapon functions as a shotgun depending on what you decide to load it with. All weapons function realistically and are greatly detailed.

Bottom line I paied 50 bucks for this game when it first came out. In my opinion almost 7 years later it is still worth 50 bucks. If you have not played this game and like survival horror this is a must buy.

enjoyable, but not quite a classic

I remember back in 1999 when I received Dino Crisis as a Christmas present. This was my first exposure to a survival horror game. Believe it or not, I actually didn't bother with the Resident Evil series until six years later, in the summer of 2005, which is when I played Resident Evil 2 for the very first time.

Now, let's go back to 1999 for a moment. The world of 3D gaming was in full swing at that point in time. 1999 was a year when people were anxiously awaiting what the Playstation 2 would give us, while at the same time, we were appreciating what the original Playstation was offering. The original Playstation, as you may already know, is where the survival horror genre *really* became popular. Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and, the now underrated and unfortunately forgotten, Dino Crisis series.

Over time, people haven't treated the Dino Crisis series with *nearly* as much respect as the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series. It probably has something to do with Dino Crisis 3 being a really bad game with horrible camera angles, which meant, after that failed experiment hit the market, people weren't interested in any more Dino Crisis games. But, you know, even before Dino Crisis 3 was released, people didn't respect the Dino Crisis series as much as the other survival horror games. I really have no idea why. Dinosaurs can be *just* as cool as zombies. Believe me. Perhaps it has something to do with the animation? Even though killing dinosaurs is fun and addicting, Capcom made killing zombies slightly more interesting, thanks mainly to better animation from pointing and shooting your guns at a zombies head. It just looks and feels better in Resident Evil. This in NO WAY should be reason to avoid Dino Crisis. This also doesn't mean Dino Crisis is flawed in the shooting department. Both Resident Evil and Dino Crisis offer tons of enjoyment. TONS of enjoyment. They are just separate beasts.

The original Dino Crisis is supposed to be about making the right decisions when it comes to either keeping your ammo and health in one place, or making the decision to bring the ammo and health with you. It's supposed to be about guessing whether or not the ammo or health will eventually be necessary as you progress through the game. However, on easy mode, none of this makes a difference. The game is *so* easy on easy mode, that you can literally get attacked by dinosaurs about five or six times before you even need one of those Med Pack M's (used to bring your health back to 100%). Seeing as how there aren't many dinosaurs in the game overall, you will only need to use one of these health packs maybe two or three times throughout the entire game. Dino Crisis is *that* easy! This means you will only have to bring one or two Med Packs with you, and leave the rest behind.

To be fair, you can't just mindlessly shoot every dinosaur you arrive to, because you aren't given a whole lot of ammo. Certainly not as much ammo is given to you compared to how many health packs are available throughout the journey. Despite that, running out of bullets probably won't ever be a problem. Just make certain you avoid some of the weaker dinosaurs in the early parts of the game. That way you will have enough bullets for the bigger and deadlier dinosaurs in the later parts of the game (which obviously require more bullets to kill).

You are given the ability to mix things together, to create dangerous darts. These darts are used to kill dinosaurs *very* quickly, sometimes in a single shot. The problem here is that, on easy mode, the game is so simple that mixing darts together isn't even important. You don't have to worry about dart-mixing on easy mode *at all*. You can simply shoot or avoid all the dinosaurs you come across on easy mode and not have to worry about dart-mixing EVER. That kind of ruins the whole "survival horror" aspect of the game. You should have been required to use at least one or two of these darts.

People criticize Dino Crisis 2 for being just a mindless shooting game where you have to kill as many dinosaurs as possible to progress to the next area and collect bigger guns, but the honest truth is, the original is a MUCH easier game overall because you can simply run past all the dinosaurs that stand in your way. You can't do that in the second game. You have to stand up to them and shoot. So Dino Crisis 2 is a harder game, in my opinion. Oh sure, you are given an option to up the difficulty (in both Dino Crisis games) but the problem here is that the difficulty goes up SIGNIFICANTLY, making the game nearly impossible.

Another problem I have with the game is the amount of cutscenes. You CANNOT skip over them, so you are forced to watch almost every single one of them. Most of them are kind of boring because most of the cutscenes feature the main characters just talking to each other. Sometimes you will see a cool-looking dinosaur attacking something, though. But Capcom *really* should have given you an option to skip over the cutscenes like they did in the sequel, because most of them are flat-out boring. These conversations are supposed to create a spooky mood, but it doesn't work in my opinion.

I also have a problem with the INCREDIBLE amount of puzzles you come across. I am not kidding, there's over 25 puzzles in this game. Some of them are just a matter of typing in the correct series of numbers, or the correct words to access the next area. Some of the puzzles are more along the lines of finding the right way to complete them, such as the puzzle where you're pushing these Up, Down, Left and Right buttons to figure out how to sucessfully lift up and put down boxes using a giant crane. These are extremely hard puzzles to figure out by yourself unless you have a walkthrough. Once you figure them out, the sequence is exactly the same the next time you play the game, though. They're not random like in Resident Evil 3.

The game is also *very* heavy on searching for the correct key cards to gain access to the next part of the game, which can be annoying. Simply put, the game is dominated with puzzles and key cards, which are always required to access the next area. A bit much, to say the least.

Despite the above problems, Dino Crisis is STILL a pretty fun game because the dinosaurs are animated beautifully and the graphics as a whole are really good for 1999 as well. The actual gameplay has some problems mentioned above, but there's also plenty of action to be found. Also, the game is pretty scary and intense, and the dinosaurs are simply wonderful looking and it's interesting the way they can attack you because they attack differently each time. Sometimes they will bite at your arm, other times they will pick you up from off the ground, and more.

Oh, and the music and sound effects are amazing. Perhaps the best music and sound effects in a survival horror game ever. Instead of featuring melodic themes, you are treated to sound effects and musical notes that seem to play randomly, almost making it sound like improvised music, like something from a King Crimson record. This means, if you listen to the music carefully, you can hear a bunch of unusual and creepy sound effects in the background. You hear something different each time. It's awesome, and works great. It's not a typical soundtrack in any shape or form, even by survival horror standards. It's so good.

Overall, even though Dino Crisis has almost zero replay value, and too much time is spent running around inside a facility doing one puzzle after another (and collecting one key card after another) the game is worth the experience. It's not a classic, just a nice game.
