I hope you don't actually think this is a roleplaying game.

Of all the oversold software of the past several years, this stands out in my mind as the perfect example of the negative trends in computer game design. Please don't fall into the same hole I have seen many others fall into and believe this is a roleplaying game. It is in fact a disgrace to the genre, with no elements that have made RPG's great. There are no choices to make, no important dialogues, no roleplaying elements at all.
Blizzard needs to realize that character statistics, dungeons, and monsters do not an RPG make. It has more in common with Space Invaders than great RPG's such as the Ultima series and Fallout. It will not make you think. It will not fascinate you. It will make you sit at your computer, staring blankly at wave after wave of the same ol' demons as you repetitively destroy them with one of 5 actually useful spells. Addictive? Maybe. but there are much better things to spend your time doing, and much better games to spend your money on.

When I first played the game, I was actually having a blast with it, but the game got more tiring than fun. Basically the whole meaning of this game is to do missions. And while you do these missions, you hack and kill like 500 monsters. And let me advise you that the only way to kill these monsters is by clicking your mouse. So picture yourself clicking a million times to kill the same monsters over and over again. The villagers don't really care about you. All they do is tell you what to do! Your character is missing a huge plot. And your character doesn't really have a good background story. Actually, your character has no background story at all. You've just mysteriously been put in a certain village and then the villagers just bug you. Trust me, if you think this sounds boring, then don't waste your money on this game.
Now let me tell you about leveling up. When you get a level up, you gain 5 points for your stats, and 1 skill point for your skills. But the bad news is YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE what type of stats you want. Here's an example... If I have 5 points to waste, I'd use 2 on strength and 3 on dexterity. That's basically it. I don't really like this because I think of it as being cheap. I'm used to games when you level up, you gain your new stats automatically. What if you put too much strength points and little life points on your character? Yeah he'll be strong, but one hit on him and he's dead! Its too complex and unfun at the same time. And I hate to say this, but once you waste your points, you can never average it all out to your other stats. Now I think thats cheap. Now let me tell you about the skills: When you level up, you also can gain 1 magic skill. I liked it at first, until I noticed that the skills have levels to themselves too!!! And you know, its not easy trying to figure out which magic skill I want to be in level 2, 3, or 4 because all the magic skills are equally important. But here's a story of what happened to me:
I noticed that Holy Freeze slows downs my enemies and that it really helped me in fighting the monsters. So I kept putting holy freeze to the next level. Before you know it, i had that magic skill up to level 7. But you know what happened? I came across this huge boss who wasn't even AFFECTED by my holy freeze skill! Its like all that leveling up for that freeze spell was for nothing because I could never pass that boss because I used all my skill level on that holy freeze move. And let me tell you, thats all you needed in order to kill ANY monster. But no, they had to give it an exception to this boss. I was very disappointed. And thats why I don't like those games where you learn a magic spell, and you have to choose what level a certain magic spell needs because you don't know what type of spell affects what type of monster or boss. Oh by the way, did I tell you that as you level up, the monsters do too. Thats another frustration that I can't bear.
In conclusion, I must say don't get this game. Its not your typical rpg. It has no real plot (just doing missions for the townspeople who don't want to do anything for themselves), the leveling up system is totally messed up, AND I found so many glitches and mistakes on this game, that I had to give it 1 star. I couldn't believe how this game became so popular. It just isn't worth buying, and I hope my opinion has helped others not to do the same mistake that I have done in buying this game.

This is the top. If someone just ask me to select the top 20 games that i ever played, i would chose diablo 2 and place it in this top 20. Battle.net acted as on of the biggest game servers ever. It is acting now as the biggest game server ever. 8 players! It is an incredible thing to fight with monsters an even with other players in these 4 towns of diablo 2! What a joy! More than that, the chance of carving your name to the hall of heroes on battle.net, and better than all, carving your name on the head of your opponent. I played many games on net, til i played diablo 2. Now i think i hadn't play any games. I played diablo 2. The rest is worthless.

Ya, DIablo 2 is definitely a game worth your money. My favorite game used to be the original Diablo for the Playstation. I played that game for many hours by myself, and with my cousin. So, I decided to get Diablo 2 for the computer, and it was amazing. I got addicted to this game for a while and couldn't stop playing it. There are fun characters who each have their own unique abilities. A word to the wise is only play this game if you have a significant amount of time. The only thing I don't like about the game is that when you save it you have to kill a whole bunch of evil creatures you just killed. But, don't let that stop u from getting this game, cuz it is among the best out there! My favorite new game
Best game in years.

I have had this game ever since it came out, and still play it to this day, for you can never truley beat it with online (b.net) game play.
At first it did have a few problems, but they have been fixed in their new patch which can be downloaded from their offical website.
This game had 5 characters that complete quest, gain items and gold, get skills , and of course, battle evil.
Some hot pc magazines said it was just a point and click game, but it is far more then that. This game requires skill, stratergy, and imagination. Expecially if you choose to duel other players on battle.net (b.net) which is a game in itself.
If you enjoy this, i highly recommend you get the expansion pack for it adds so many things to diablo2, it makes you never want to play the origional again.
~hope this helps

I have spent $400 upgrading my computer to get D2 to run...STILL get "please insert CD-ROM play disc errors" when the disk is in the computer...Blizzard should have not released this product until it was ready.. I notice we have 2 patches out allready and it has been on the shelves less than a month...shame on Blizzard.
Worth the wait

Wow! As of this moment I have finished the game on normal difficulty and am about halfway through it again on Nightmare difficulty. And having a blast.
If you prefer deep, thought provoking games with amazing plot twists and mind-bending puzzles, this is not the game for you. Diablo II, like Diablo, is pure hack-and-slash-treasure-accumulating mayhem. It is not intellectual, but it is great fun!
The new character classes are unique and interesting. My favorites so far are the amazon, since you can kill the monster at range before it ever hits you, and the sorceress, because, well... she has all that cool magic. I'm not so sure about the necromancer, who runs around with dead things, but the paladin and the barbarian appear to be great melee combatants.
The new item system builds on the system in Diablo. On top of stuff like 'Obsidian Amulet of Stability,' you can also find set items, which are several items which, if worn together, have some sort of bonus associated with them. However, it's difficult to put a set together, and the bonus is not always worth the effort. Also, you can find seven different types of gems, each of which can be one of five different qualities (chipped, flawed, et al) Each gem gives a certain ability to a weapon, a helmet, or a shield, including increased stats, increased elemental defense, increased chance to find magic items.
On the down side, the game can bog down horribly, to the point where literally several seconds can go by between your actions. There have already been two patches, in the first two weeks, and rumor has it another patch is on the way. The online gaming, via Battlenet is often down, and even when you can get connected, there is often severe lag (on top of the slow down I already mentioned), and often you will lose your connection.
Overall, great game! I highly recommend it. My only suggestion is that if you go on Battlenet, try to keep your sense of humor.
Buy it, on one condition.

A total blast and very addictive. The only caveat is this: If you have a family, don't buy it. From the time you get home from work until bedtime, you will neglect them and play this game. And for that matter, you'll stay up past bedtime into the wee hours and then go too bed too late, be late for work, and get fired.
So I guess, don't buy it. Well, if you're single, go for it!
