I have been playing Diablo II for well over a year now online and it never gets boring. It is truly addictive.
This is one of the few PC games I've encountered that allows access to totally free online gameplay. One of the things I have, and obviously others, noticed is the ever-changing value of the many items you can collect throughout the game. It's as if the community has its own little economy.
As far as the game graphics go, it's not bad, but it could be better, though it doesn't hinder the gameplay whatsoever. The replay value on this game is one of the best in the market.
I bought the Diablo II: Lords of Destruction Expansion Pack shortly after its Release Date. I found it a bit lacking, but it was still worth the price. The Expansion Pack includes two new playable characters, a Druid and an Assasin. Also, throughout the expansion set you'll find a few new items, such as Runes and Rune-Word items. This game is definitely worth a look if you're into RPGs.
Played it for years until the hackers killed battle.net

The original Diablo was ground breaking and a hell of a lot of fun. D2 took all of the great features of Diablo and then expanded both the universe, the story and the game play. If you want to disappear for a time - head for this world - you'll love it.
Better than "Diablo", way better than "World of Warcraft".

"Diablo" was fun but it could have been much better. My biggest gripe about it was on single player. Once you killed the monsters, they were gone forever and so you could only get up to a certain level before being FORCED to face Diablo, and of course you weren't ready. I also hated how slow the guys walked, having trouble clicking on something on the ground to pick it up, the cost of elixirs (which upped an attribute permanently), the cost of books, how far between waypoints were and probably a few other things that I can't think of at the moment. However, it was still fun.
Oh, another thing that kinda sucked was in multi-player every character was 100% cookie. At best maybe a sorcerer used a Nova staff instead of an Apocalypse one for example. Everyone use the same gear, like, the EXACT same gear. Look how many people used Dragon's Ring of the Zodiac. However, what was nice about this was the EASY duping system. It was so easy it was a joke. No skill was required and neither was a hack/dupe program. H**l, when I had nothing guys would give me godly gear for free. That's how easy it was to dupe.
However, with "Diablo 2" everything's improved. More classes, better graphics, faster gameplay, more variety really. However, the original is only played by those who like the harder game play as in the original you don't have as much godly gear as you do in the expansion, such as rune words. So unless you're one of these types who like the harder but much simpler game play, you'll also want the expansion.
The only thing that sucks about multi-player is in order to get godly items these days, unless you don't mind spending countless hours (which is something I was doing for a while and got wise and cut way down on), you need a bot to do MF runs. Otherwise, your character will never be good as far as PvP is concerned.
Oh, that's another nice thing about this game. It's pretty much impossible to get backstabbed. No more of that situation where you're running with your "ally" and all of a sudden they can kill you. Blizzard added a lot more barriers to being able to backstab someone so that it's pretty much impossible if not completely impossible.
As for how it compares to "World of Wacraft", well, at least with this game you won't be taking half an hour to find a place and it doesn't take 30 seconds to kill each monster, which you can only fight one at a time. This game won't require you to give up your life or social life and you don't have to pay to play it online. "World of Warcraft" (I refuse to call it "WoW"!) is stupid for many reasons, including the ones I just listed. Get this instead. It's faster and more interesting and much more laid-back. Plus you don't need to sacrifice as much to get somewhere.
"Diablo 2" > "World of Warcraft"

If you liked Diablo 1 and you arent buying this game to play online, then you will like Diablo II. This game isnt dificult, it just involves completing certain quests. After a while you arent really playing the game as much as you are just trying to run down the checklist of things you have to do. So its a great way to kill time I guess. I tried to play online but I cant stay on long enough to complete any of the quests. ...
FUN ... PERIOD!

Unlike most pc gamers, I never played the first Diablo. With all the hype and how much my friends enjoyed the first game, I figured this would be the game to buy. Well, it is. The fun and reaplayability factors definitely make up for the less than stellar graphics in this game. The controls and gameplay are superb. The sound and music is some of the most realistic I've ever heard (except for some of the recent FPS games). I haven't played on Battle.net yet simply because I'm having too much fun playing my own game and TCP/IP'ing with my buddies. Me and my friends started our game after we were halfway through with Act 1 in our own games, and we were amazed at how much fun we were having even though it was our second time through Act 1. When you play online with others it proposes a whole new slew of options like trading, etc. (teamwork!). What makes the game so replayable is that everytime you play it, it's different. Even if you play as the same character, you will end up getting weapons in a different order. The weapons and magic are just AWESOME by the way. It's so cool how killing the same enemies over and over (and over) again can be SO MUCH FUN! Usually I HATE normal RPG games, but this action RPG stuff is my bag ... baby!
My name is Rob and I'm a Diabloholic.

If you liked the first one, say good bye to your wife and friends for a while....this one is going to consume you. I've tried many a RPG including the Fallout series, the Baldur's Gate, etc., etc., but none have every wrapped me up to the extent this series has. It is the simplicity combined with story combined with the interface combined with the...well, you get the point. It's the perfect mix!
At first glance, I wished the graphics could have been better (they do get better as you go) and I've had a couple of minor issues with the game itself. But, such is the fate of the impatient ones who can't wait until the bugs have all been worked out before diving in. I've played the game mostly in single player, although I hope to find a support group online before long.
Buy this game without hesitation!
hells yeah!

okay, remember all the fun of the original diablo? Of course you do! it rocked! well, no surprise, so does the sequel! D2 is huge, impressive and nicely detailed. there are tons of monsters and bad guys. There's also no shortage of weapons, upgrades and GOLD! And, like other RPG-esque games, when your experience goes up and you level up, you can put your skill points where you want em! yeah! Multiplayer is sweet too. be it through battle.net or a TCP connection, its all good. Suggestions for playing though. When D2 suggests a monitor resolution, go with it. Second, download the update from battle.net or get it off the latest mac addict CD(unsolicited plug) the update speeds up stuff and makes m-player easier. However, there's a lot going on in D2. make sure you are at LEAST 266 mhz G3 in order to play. Also, she wants decent ram. give it plenty(at least 64) to get it going. Similarly, D2 supports almost all video acceleration. So, for god sakes BUY A GOOD CARD! . it'll make d2 look better and play faster. So, no matter what you do, play D2. its a cant miss. We all owe blizzard for porting to mac for us.show them you care! buy this game! And, for those of you who may not trust my recomendation, I unoficially tell you I work for one of the larger game retailers in america. I wouldnt tell ya to buy it if I didnt mean it. now go and kill the undead!.....uh...again!...
How awsome is this?

Normally, I HATE RPG's. Everytime I saw one, I avoided it like the plauge. They were just boring to me. Then, yesterday, my friend forced me to play it. It was the MOST fun game I have ever played. I tried it yesterday and I bought it today. You definitly have to get this game. Even if you hate RPG's.
Stick to the original

Wow! This was a huge upset. When i opened the package 2 days ago and rushed to install the game i was so excited. Then after i chose my character, typed in my name, and started playin i already noticed flaws. Bad graphics, bad sound, same old stuff. Inventory the same, story is basically the same. After an hour of playin it i was back playin halflife playin with my friends. The box, manual and game had "mysteriously" dissapeard only to be found in the garbage the next day. The only reason i gave this a 2 is cause, wait why did i give it a 2?

Diablo 2 is a good game, but it lacks replay value.
(a) The levels are *not* randomly generated, despite what the game claims. They're mildly rearranged, but this doesn't hide the fact that you're in, say, the Cold Plains or the Blood Moor. The quests are always the same from game to game. The areas are the same. The sequence of events is always the same.
(b) Unless you're playing, say, a Barbarian, you'll find yourself fighting through the same areas many times in order to get the experience you need to move forward. This gets boring.
(c) The game isn't open-ended. There is no campaign editor, as in games like Half Life, Quake, Starcraft, etc. You are stuck with the pre-defined areas to play in, and you are dependent on Blizzard releasing an "expansion" if you want more/new areas.
(d) Although this is primarily a "shooter" type game, you can only wield one weapon at a time. This effectively makes characters like the Amazon a joke, and almost elminates strategic weapons usage like switching from a ranged weapon to a close combat weapon.
In general, while this game does have a lot of positive qualities (it's a typical Blizzard game, with a friendly UI, good art, good music), it also leaves much to be desired.
