I was lucky enough to rent this game... I started playing DTR after a few hours of playing "Enclave" (my other rental). "Enclave" puts DTR's graphics to shame. DTR's graphics remind me of a bad PS2 port. The controls for DTR are also very confusing. The fighting did not seem to warrant much skill besides press this button to aim, or kick, or press another to fire or punch. The only way I could consistently get the camera to look where I wanted was to use the "auto aim" function. I was kind of out of luck with the camera when there was nobody around to shoot. I went back to playing "Enclave" after about 90 minutes of playing DTR. I own over a dozen Xbox games and I have to say that I am glad I did not buy DTR.
Could have been Great.

"Dead to rights" is what could have been as good maybe better then Max payne. There are some things that are better then in MAx Payne. Like being able to take hostages and being able to peak around corners and shoot And of course your side kick dog. The graphics are good not as bad as some say. There is Lots and i do mean Lots of gun play. But the major down fall of this game is it is way to difficult. I like a good challenge but this is just ridiculous. Way to many bad guys that are way to good a shot and to strong. You will be up against a dozen or so thugs with Ak-47's at once. And these aren't guys you shoot once and they die you have to shoot them several times. They will all rush you, surround you and open fire. You have litte to no chance in most battles. If you can beat this game my hats off to you. But to me it's way to difficult to the point that i have to wonder what exactly the makers of this game were thinking when they put it together. My advice is it's worth a Rent But do Not buy. Do yourself a favor and buy Max payne if you don't already have it.
Good fun but lacking a few things,

DTR is a good game, not a great one. The game has some fun features, such as lobbing a "canister" of explosives over the heads of the bad guys and shooting it for the kill, using your attack dog to kill opponents and bring back their weapons, and taking a "human shield" to protect you from bullets, and some other cool stuff. The story line is cookie-cutter, but doesn't get dull.
Unfortunately the controls, particularly targeting, are pretty weak and difficult to use. If you get too close to certain objects your view gets screwed up, and that can cost you when the limitless bad guys are close by.
Considering it's on XBOX, lack of multiplayer is unforgivable. The game could also use a difficulty setting, as it is pretty hard to beat and can get frustrating.
Be warned that the Mature rating is there for a reason. After the first "learning" chapter there is a fairly graphic strip club scene that might not go over well with any female in your household. Also, the violence is constant and fairly graphic (cool...).
Overall I'd rent the game before buying it. It has some fun gameplay, but is difficult to beat and hard to control. Enjoy.
Redundant Button Basher & Bad Camera Angles

This game could have been good. The fighting, weapon, and maneuvering mechanics of this game are nice. What kills this linear game is that it becomes redundant very quickly plus the bad camera scheme. Keeping a good camera angle has to be constantly adjusted by the left thumb stick. The fighting in the game along with keeping the camera angle on what you are doing is distacting and leads to too many free shots by the enemies (especially when you are in a fight). You'll probably spend most of the game repeating scenes over and over again. It seems the developer rushed this game and didn't take the time to exploit the power of the Xbox, which is easily the most powerful console out now.
Good soild gameplay, but lacks

First off let me say this, this game was good for the first hour, but after I really got deeper into the levels, it became more of a frustating ripping out my hair thing other than me actually enjoying this game. I had thought about buying it before rental, boy am I glad I chose rental. Secondly, controls can make or break the purchase of this title, too bad we couldn't go into options and switch it around but hey, after the training level you should have it down no prob. If you've played Max Payne and loved it more than anything, then maybe you might like this, I adored Max Payne, but this game done nothing for me to make me actually buy this one. The most annoying thing about the whole game has to be the mini games, it just doesn't make sense to have some of them in there, it looks like to me they tried to stray away from Max Payne as much as possible so it wouldn't be called a Max Payne clone, but that's all it ammounts to if you were to ask me. I know Namco is popular for their fighting gneres, but honestly, I think they could have done much better in this one, it actually gets to the point where I turned off the game, this hardly ever happens to me on games, and I'm an extreme gamer. Don't get me wrong, the game's good the bullet time is great, five stars there, they actually done better with the auto aiming arcade style, great feature, loved it. Also, the disarms are one of the best features of this game, they're all random and the more you progress through levels, the more brutal and more fun they become to watch over and over again, you can even slow down the camera by pressing Y, I also loved that. Last but not least, Shadow, your faithful dog in this game, you can set him to attack one enemy and bring back a gun for you if are low and have no weaponry, all in all I give this game 3 stars good but not great.
Beware

This game is Max Payne, except you are a K9 cop. Here are the Pros and Cons -
Pros: slow-motion shooting/diving
various lethal disarms of enemy
easy to shoot with one-button aim
Cons: game based on a continuous story, not levels (must save portions of the game if you want to return to play)
stupid contests within the game (basically who can push a button the fastest, i.e. arm-wrestle for cigarettes)
hand-to-hand combat (especially in jail) is horrible and repetitive
Summary: This game has no replay value. Rent it for a week, beat the game, and return it...
Dead to Rights.......Good but could be better

I've been waiting for this game to come out ever since the first time I read about its release. Purchased it from Best Buy on 8/21 evening - one left on the shelf! Got home and played it for about an hour. First thing I noticed was the graphics aren't the greatest - Max Payne is much better in this field. Game play is excellent, only annoying thing is the "auto-target" feature, you can switch to manual mode. The jury is still out on this one, but I am sure I will enjoy it. FPS games is all I play and i am sure this will live up to all the hype.
Poor Max Payne Rip-Off.

This Has to be the worst Max Payne Rip-off in History. Poor Graphics, Linear Story, & a Cheese-ball Character. Plus, The auto aim is annoying. There isn't anything awesome you're missing if you skip this game.
