If you liked any of the Rockstar games (GTA 3, Max Payne, State of Emergency), then preorder this...now!!! In terms of gameplay, from what I have seen, this looks very similar to Max Payne, but about 100 times better. Dead to Rights is absolutely one of the most ruthless games I have seen and can easily compare to GTA 3 on the violence scale....It only gets better... Sneak up..grab their gun, beat them down to the ground with it, and then shoot them with their own friggin' gun until you feel they are dead enough. Looks to be a classic game for any fan of mob/gangster related titled. A side note- Dead to Rights was changed from an all-system title to an XBOX exclusive. Eat that PS2... All in all, if you felt a little disappointed with the gamelength and the predictable plot of Max Payne, but still enjoyed running around blowing people away in slow motion, then Dead to Rights is for you...

I have downloaded movies for this game and all I have to say is OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!! If you liked Max Payne you will love this game. It has freeze time where it is just like "The Matrix", and the way you can disarm a bad guy is unheard of. I can't wait to actually play this game, and hope that many people also play and own this game, this will be the Grand Theft Auto for the XBOX.

one of the best

Through a contact I have I was able to aquire this game over a month before it has come out. This game is incredible the graphics are very smooth and the framerate is excellent. The slow motion characteristics are similar to Max Payne but they are more improved. This game has allot more to offer then that though. For starters the story is deep, dark and very intriqute You are able to grab enemies and use them as human sheilds for protection. You also have a dog named shadow in your weapons arsenal who you can sick on enemies and sniff out bombs with. But the coolest part of the game is the disams. When you have no weapon you can rush an enemy who has one and disarm him in several different ways which all end up with you executing him (or her.)You start out with four standard disarms and unlock more as you go along. You can set the disarms to random or manually decide which one you will use and you can slow down the camera to watch as well. The mini games such as weight lifting, a speed bag, and bomb disarmment are also cool. The only draw back is that when you are first learning the controls it is hard to control the camera. This game has no difficulty setting for XBOX so I recommend only serious gamers attempt challenging this game. The average time to beat this game is 18 hours, if you are really good at these types of games it can be beat in 8 to 9 hours. It took me 9:42. If you are a serious gamer order this game now! If you have a gamecube or ps2 don't worry it is coming to both systems with a diffuculty setting.

The game is great and everyone should buy it. ...game is great and it is challenging and difficult. But if u are going to buy this game for XBOX which I suggest u do if you do not have a ps2 or don't want to wait, pick up a s controller as well. It will make the game allot more fun and u allot less mad. When I got the game I was recommended to go pick up a s controller and I suggest u do the same. Peace

Max Payne clone -- stay away

Well, having played and LOVED Max Payne, I was totally looking forward to this game, seeing that it was being compared with Max Payne in several ways, but having played it now I only want to play Max again to get the bad taste out of my mouth that Dead to Rights has left with me. This game is merely a clone, and not a good one. I wish I would have read some of the game reviews for buying it, because they would have warned me to stay away. For example, I have the latest issue of GameNow in front of me, and they give the game a C+, and warn how bad the controls are and how completely way too difficult the game is. Their headline quote says it all: "Frustrating and immensely difficult." I don't play games to pull my hair out, so I can in no way recommend this game, as much as I was looking forward to another game with the cool style and fun gameplay as Max.

Max Payne? Sure, if you want to believe it. Also! Warning!

Updating this.. I have this game... i strongly stand by my opinion but Dead To Rights is HARD, i mean, this game was meant to be played for a few days straight. I do not recommend this game to the uncoordinated or people without a LOT of video game experience. There is a VERY steep learning curve but when you get it down, this game is unbelievably great. Dont get frusterated at this game either! Everything is very beatable but you need to remember to use a lot of different techniques. The Prison (very very early in game) is VERY Frusterating but its very beatable. Again, this is a game for gamers, not kids. The slow motion is truely as good as it seems. Also, you are also put right into the action which is cool. The game seriously feels like a movie unfolding, its great stuff. *End of update, heres the rest of the original review* - Well, Max Payne 2 right? If you want to believe what you hear. Max Payne was a pretty good game but Dead To Rights will be awesome. If you truely believe this is a clone, watch a movie of the game and then grab a dictionary and figure out what a 'clone','duplicate', or whatever you want to call it, means. If you truely want to say Dead to rights is a clone, you'd have to say max payne is a clone because you can easily say Max Payne is a copy of Hitman or any other third person shooter. You can also say max payne is copying a lot of hong kong, john woo, type movies so please people, give a game a rating its worth. If a games a clone, does it mean its automatically a 1 star? Well believe that if you want to, then say starcraft is a clone of warcraft or Tropico is sim city. Be nieve (sp?) and not buy it because its a 'max payne wanna be' just because a magazine made by a bunch of 16 year olds says its a duplicate. In the case you are a true gamer, you will realize this will be a very FUN game... and im sorry whoever complains that a game is "too hard" and "too difficult" should never call themselves gamers. They need to pick up a basketball or a football and refine their hand to eye coordination and learn some common sense. If you think max payne is hard... oh god, the generation that wants to grab a game, master it, and leave it be needs to know why you pay [money] for a game. Yes, [money] isnt for a one shot, done, dust collector game, [money] is for a game you'll enjoy over and over and want to play with your speakers blaring. If this game is "unbelievably hard" for a good reason (not just cheating AI or stuff like that... project igi on hard? last level? anyone?), then ill pay [more money], and any true gamer will pay it for a fun and challenging game.

Maybe not what you think it is

A lot of people are talking about DTR as though it was a Max Payne clone. Aside from the issue of "bullet-time", or the slow-motion diving-while-shooting, DTR and Max share virtually nothing in common. Ok, so both are stories about ex-cops out for revenge, but that's where the similarities end.

Dead to Rights has a lot more built-in diversity in gameplay than Max Payne does. The character can fight unarmed, have his sidekick dog attack enemies, disarm enemies and steal their guns, and hide against walls and kill people stealthily. That's not to mention the plethora of minigames, which take most of their gameplay from the venerable Track and Field series of button-mashing to some specified parameters.

DTR doesn't have half the atmosphere that Max Payne does, and that's largely due to the art direction and cinematography, rather than anything else. A lot of the cutscenes are done in-engine, and while DTR's not ugly, it's not pretty, either. Visually, it's about half-way between Halo and a Dreamcast game.

The most important thing to consider, however, when trying to decide whether to purchase DTR, is that it's staggeringly difficult. The biggest problem with DTR is that the difficulty comes not from a legitimate, skill-based challenge, but from a lousy camera, and poor auto-targetting.

At times, you will dive at a person with a shotgun, who is standing not far in front of you. You might be armed with a shotgun as well, so range would be an important consideration, since you'll do more damage to something closer to you. But rather than targetting the guy in front of you, where one hit would kill him, you end up targetting someone off-camera, to your left, who's behind a truck. Of course, after flying through the air like an idiot, you land at this guy's feet, where he kills you with one close-range shotgun blast.

The problem with DTR is that it's so full of potential, and so full of neat ideas, and they're mired in this half-baked mess, where you can't DO any of the things that you *want* to do.

It's a neat game, on paper - full of potential, full of excellent ideas. But as it stands, it's frustrating not because of a legitimate challenge, but because every couple of minutes, you'll be killed by something you couldn't possibly avoid.
