HORRIBLE!

This game is definetely NOT worth buying, and HARDLY worth renting. The controls STINK, and are unresponsive, the graphics are cheesy, the game is just plain stupid. There are endless, pointless missions and they're horribly REPITITIVE. The odds against you are insane, and this game is horribly irritating. GamePro compared this game to Max Payne... Judging from this, they're no Pros. Time to switch subscriptions... Max Payne is a great game, this is NOT.

An action game that puts you in an Action Movie.

This game is great. After learning the controls (took about an hour to become good enough to play properly) the game is surprisingly playable. I don't usually go for this type of game, I prefer sports games, but this game is great. The action is intense, you find yourself up against overwhelming odds all the time and when you finally do succeed you feel like you have achieved something.

The graphics of this game are great, you don't get the feeling it was quickly throw together, the programmers did there job with this one. If you hook it up to a decent sound system and get the bass pumped up, the sound is awesome. The shooting shakes you soul!

This is the kind of game you won't get bored with, it will take you months of playing to actually beat this game, and even then it doesn't lose its appeal. Each time you play it you find yourself getting stuck at different parts so it's never the same. All in all this is a great game.

i went out and bought this game the day it came out. i had been waiting for it for months (as i do for any FPS) and was extremely disappointed. the graphics are pretty good, but controls just .... it has an annoying targeting system, which means you can't just point-and-shoot; you have to keep clicking the damn right trigger until the enemy you want to shoot is targeted. this game is .... go out and get a REAL first person shooter like Max Payne, Halo, or Turok: Evolution- which should be released on the 30th or 31st of this month.

Boring to rights....

With many more years of work by the Namco staff this title would have the "right" to be mentioned in the same sentence as Max Payne. I have not had cause until now to slam a game that I purchased for my x-box. Sure there have been a couple sleepers that I felt were not for me But was not motivated to write a review about negative feelings towards a game until now.

Hate the auto(right trigger) shooting set-up. Let me do my own aiming, thank you.

Camara angles- One of the weapons might as well be ripe banana if you can't see the enemy anyway, you might as well be able to have a snack while they are shooting you in the tukus because you can't get the frigin camera to whirl around.

Maybe the hype was just too much for this game.

Summery: Rent before you buy. This game is very aptly named.

This is a great game. Yes, there are the much-criticised problems with the automatic targetting system, and yes, this game is difficult, but at the end of the day it blows the socks off the game it most resembles, Max Payne.

Max Payne was a one-gimmick (bullet time) game with flat PC-style graphics and severe clipping problems which made all the walls look cardboard-like.

This game has solid graphics, several fun gimmicks such as the disarms and human shields, more variety in its levels, a good storyline, not to mention the great intro sequence. The difficulty makes you swear at the screen more frequently than with other games, but at the same time produces a tense and rewarding gaming experience. I cannot understand those who feel that Max Payne is a superior game. The only explanation I can think of is that there are some people out there who refuse to accept the notion that a game designed and programmed by Japanese could be superior to one done by Westerners.

Bad from one end to the other

Gimmicks. The gimmicks in this game are very disappointing.
The Dog. This just turns out to be lame. You can send your dog to attack people but you have to disarm yourself to do it. What would have great would be the ability to use this as a distraction and to be able to attack other enemies simultaneously. But sadly this is not available. You end up watching a simple mauling animation while you sit unarmed and helpless.
Wall hugging. When I used this for the first time I thought it was fantastic. But when I got farther into the game it becomes useless. If you do not have a perfectly flat wall with a perfectly square corner it doesn't work. Ether nothing happens or you end up popping out on the open and just standing there. You don't slip back.
Diving. The best use of this I found was in the bare fisted prison brawls to escape the hordes of pugilistic prisoners. It looked like a bizarre version of Frogger. As far as diving and shooting, the lousy auto-aim fails to lock about 50% of the time and you fly through the air slo-mo and do absolutely nothing.
Throwing canisters. This is not the only part of this game that reminds me of Resident Evil. Similar to the dog when you pick these up you are unarmed and helpless until you drop or throw it. What's worse, picking them up is not a choice. If you walk close enough you do it automatically. You are automatically disarmed. You throw them in slow motion for no good reason and while is in the air you cannot aim at anything else.
Disarm. This feature I actually liked. There is a different animation for each weapon.
Human shield. This feature is kind of cool too but reveals an inconsistency in the game. The same man it takes 4 shots to kill is easily overpowered and can no be killed on one shot. I often used this feature just to kill quickly.
The plot is uninteresting, predictable, and many times doesn't make sense. The best example is the prison break. You escape prison by jumping down a man-hole size shower drain and end up in what looks like a mine. Not a sewer or any kind of drainage but a mine, with no water anywhere. The escape route must be well known because there are about 20 prisoners in the mine with guns. The striptease in the beginning is just disturbing.
Games/Puzzles. The puzzles and games you have to beat are infantile. From the lock picking to weightlifting and arm wrestling its just more mindless button tapping.
Lousy implementation of auto-aim. It's slow and difficult to switch targets. Why use auto-aim at all? It gets boring very quickly.
Slow clunky camera. Camera movement painfully slow. It takes almost 3 seconds to rotate 180 degrees. How many times can you get shot in 3 seconds? Plus you can't look up or down. This means you have to walk around in a circle to find things on the floor. It's even more frustrating when you're getting shot from a rooftop. At some points where moving the camera would be useful, its fixed. Occasionally you move so far away from the camera, you can barely see yourself (and I have a 57" screen).
A.I. The opposing characters control is primitive and predictable. They do the almost the same things every time you run through a level. When they move around they almost fool you into thinking the AI is advanced. But when they get close to you this illusion falls apart. They will run right up to you and just stand there. Shooting once every couple of seconds. On a rare occasion they will swing at you knocking you down. At some points they stand on the other side of a wall trying to shoot you through it. Even though they shouldn't be able to see you.
Graphics. The graphics are hi resolution and look great at first glance. But as you play you notice a lack of detail and bad light/shadow rendering. The tattoos on the main character's arms are different in-game than in the movie sequences.
Worthless sniper rifle. What were they thinking? The scope shows a crosshair but has no zoom. What is the point? What's more, the M16 is more accurate. What gives?
In what world does it take 4 shots from a .45 to knock a man down?
Fist fighting? There are several points where you are reduced to pounding an endless line of thugs. Much like the rest of the game you are limited to a few moves. These chapters drag on as you are forced to repeat these same moves over and over...

Not even worth the rental

Extra Extra

Corey Hart breaks out and becomes a cop with his sunglasses at night..,.,

So the folks at Namco played Max Payne and thought,
we can do better, so here it is! I rented this at block buster
and played it for about 4.2 minutes. The controls are too
complicated for a shooter. I found myself once again
putting in Halo to cleanse myself of that garbage. It
makes sense that nobody has rated this game because
it is so bad it doesn't merit a review. Why am I doing this you ask only to say I now have a stack of games but only
Halo is worth the replay.

The game is great and everyone should buy it. ...game is great and it is challenging and difficult. But if u are going to buy this game for XBOX which I suggest u do if you do not have a ps2 or don't want to wait, pick up a s controller as well. It will make the game allot more fun and u allot less mad. When I got the game I was recommended to go pick up a s controller and I suggest u do the same. Peace

Another shooting & driving game. The graphic is bad.

You play as a cop in this game. You can rob a car just like in Grand theft auto. The worst problem of this game is the graphic. It does not have many details.
The car you're driving look almost the same as others on the street. They are all black or dark brown!
Id rather play Maxpayne 2 or Burnout 3
