better than any other game in the world

I have had this game ever since i was five years old when i got it for christmas along w/ my N64 and it was my first game and definetly the best game ever. the levels are amazingly breathtaking including a snow covered mountain, a desert filled with sand storms and quicksand, boiling vats of lava and volcanos, and SO much more, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE this game SO SO much it is SO fun to play even if you have already beaten it. Playing a second time is even more of a joy and i am 12 years old 13 on March 21 2006 and i STILL love this game after almost 8 years! The sound effects are so good and very peaceful including the chirp of birds, the sound of the mist of waterfalls, and creepy sounds too ESPECIALLY in the haunted house JEEZ that place SCARED me! there are i think 13 paintings that each hold 7 stars for you to collect including a star you must retrieve in order to get all 120 stars. this star is one of the 7 stars you must retrieve and you must get 100 coins to get it! it takes lots of hard work to beat this game but i STILL love it. Me and my dad stayed up countless hours playing this game we LOVE it and my dad cant remember what happened yesterday and STILL remembers the fun we had playing this game YEARS ago! and after we finnally managed to find the 120 star after 5 years of playin this game we were so happy. the cannon(there are cannons in each level that you can shoot yourself out of to get to far away places) outside the castle that has been caged up by the moat for the entire game opened and we could shoot ourselves onto the roof of the castle and talk to Yoshi, he gives you 100 extra lives, a really cool move that is a triple flip that takes you extra high and when you execute it sparkles of sun come from his feet and when you fall from great hights, such as the top of the castle, you will NOT lose ANY of your power AT ALL!! this game is a real treat to play and like i said, after almost 8 years of having this game, me and my dad STILL love to reminisce and talk about the fun we had playing it. I strongly suggest to you to play this game it is like NO other game you will ever play! i guarantee you that!

This kept me going for a long time. Pre-MMOLRPG, this is about as good as you can get to get a lot of hours of fun playing a game.

actually 4 and a half stars

I've played lots of old games, but not a single one of em' could even hope to match this masterpiece. here are my ratings for the game:

Fun: 10
this game is amazing. There are a bunch of worlds to explore and tasks to do and secrets to find and so much more that I can't go into right now

player age range: 10
anyone who is over the age of, say three, and younger than, say, the age of one hundred twenty could play this game. It is challenging and complex enough to give a good time to an adult, yet simple and entertaining enough to transfix a toddler.

Graphics: 10(for a game made in '97)
I think this was the first game ever to have 3-D graphics, and thats something to think about, plus the color is great and you can't see the pixels (unlike some other old games). if this game was made today, I'd give it a 7 for graphics.

Educational: 1
okay, WHY would an N64 game be educational? Unless it was like, "Mathematics Matt vs. the multiplication menace," or something. But honestly what does this game teach us? uuuuuuuhhhhhh.... that plumbers can jump long distances? Never mind.

Camera Views: 6
I'm only giving camera views a 6 because even though there are a lot of different views to choose from, there are a lot of times when the lack of a camera view that lets you see what you're doing kills you.

overall: 9.2
all in all a pretty darn good game! WARNING: Anyone who doesn't like having an extreme good time should STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME! (chuckle chuckle)
sincerely,
da willster X

I love this game. I got it when I was in third grade, I think. Now I am seventeen and I can still play it. There are so many levels and the difficulty level is just right. The whole concept is to earn 120 stars or find enough stars throughout multiple levels so you can defeat Bowser (the Villain). This game brings back so many fun memories. I find myself playing it over winter or Thanksgiving breaks or whenever I have spare time. I would recommend it for kids about 8 years old at least, (if they are good at video games) and over. Some of the levels are pretty hard. I admit that I found myself looking up cheat guides. I think one of the hardest things about this games is that it requires a lot of wandering and discovery. A lot of the levels are either hard to find or it's hard to figure out what you're trying to accomplish. Unless you play this game all the time or are just really good at it I guarantee you will be playing it for years. I wish that nintendo 64 games were still being sold. In my opinion they are so much better than all of that futuristic stuff.

This is it!

This is it! The ground breaking game that shot the Nintendo 64 sells thorough the roof and off to space! Super Mario 64 is a game that cant be found anywhere else! It is truly amazing in every aspect from stunning graphics to superbly versatile gameplay. I just couldnt believe that this game could be this good even though it is so old!(yes, it is OLD now!) This game was so dang much fun that they even made it for Nintendo DS! If you are looking for one amazing game and own the best system ever made(Nintendo 64-NOT Xbox, Playstsion 2, or Xbox 360) then look for Super Mario 64. You will not be dissapointed. Guaranteed!

Mario soars in a 3D world

"Super Mario" is arguably the most successful and most recognizable brand name in the history. It seems that every time Nintendo releases a new episode in the series, it hits video gaming gold. From the earliest release of the original "Super Mario Brothers" on the original Nintendo Entertainment System, it has always been a hit. Even lesser known titles in the series, like "Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island", stay faithful to the series and produce very entertaining gameplay. With the dawn of Nintendo's three dimensional, 360 degree rotating platform, Nintendo 64, the question became, "Could Nintendo maximize the potential of this new platform and give Mario a fresh angle?" The answer, in the form of "Super Mario 64", proved to be a quite emphatic "YES!"

"Super Mario 64" takes the technique of 'multiple goals' for each level (introduced in "Super Mario World") and expands it in a quite impressive manner. There are 15 worlds Mario must navigate in an effort to free the Princess who is trapped in paintings in her castle. The goal is to accumulate at least 70 stars to unlock the passage way the final battle with Bowser. As each world contains 7 stars of its own in addition to 15 bonus stars around the castle, it would seem to be a walk in the park. However, all is not as it seems. Several of the doors leading the different worlds are sealed off either by locks or star requirements. Therefore, there is a limited amount of ways to accumulate the necessary stars until more stars are attained or earlier battles with Bowser are won. Of course, this leads to a journey through amazing worlds were Mario travels the depths of the ocean, soars in the open sky, battles over scorching lava, and even gets to sneak through a haunted house. The variety of worlds and objectives are truly amazing, as are the new moves Mario can make to help accomplish these goals. No longer content to just move forward and jump, Mario can now do backflips, long jumps, wall leaps, and crawls.

One other aspect of "Super Mario 64" that makes it standout is its use of rotating camera angles to track Mario's movements through each world. It takes some getting used to, but it enables a truly three dimensional feel. This is game that Nintendo built its release of Nintendo 64 around. It delivered magnificently then and, with its continual replay value, still delivers today.

One of my favorites

This was a good move to release this first, it was a best seller. Anyone who likes adventure games will enjoy this. Well, the "map" is in the castle, you jump into pictures and you go into worlds. In these worlds, you must collect stars. You collect these by doing various tasks like races, beating a boss, finding them in secret areas. There are 7 in each course: 6 for doing various tasks, and one for getting 100 or more coins. Plus, there are 15 secret stars in hidden places. You use the stars to open doors so you can open up new courses. Plus, this is the first mario game where you can lose your hat. Plus, there are three diffrerent hats you can use. I guess my only complaint is that the story isn't very origanal and the enemies aren't either but what can I say? It's a family game. If you haven't already, try it. I'm pretty sure you'll like it regardless of your age.

Mario's Landmark

Surprisingly, when Nintendo created the N64 game system, they had absolutely no idea of how succesful it would be. The first game that the system ran on was also a scream. It just sometimes comes to me as a surprise that a lot of these newer games that run on CD-ROM like the Playstation 2, and the XBOX may have faster and better graphics, but not likely with the actual loading time.

Nintendo's Super Mario 64, remains as the most dynamic staple of any N64 system to date. The graphics are just completely amazing, and so strong from one angle to another. In Super MArio 64, you guide Mario through 15 terrific stages with exciting adventure around every corner. The object of the game is to try collect as many stars as possible that are hidden in the game. Each star is very vital inorder to help you save Peach, whom is still known as Princess Toadstool, from the vile Bowser. Each course takes you from all depths of the secret kingdom, from Sea, to the firey sky, and even in a spooky ghost-filled house. The load up time for this, and every other N64 game is much faster than the CD-Rom games for the PC, and the other CD-Rom console games.

It is kind of sad Nintendo stopped making fantastic games on cartridge like this, and traded it for a CD-ROM gaming factory, with the Gamecube. Nevertheless, Super Mario 64 is still the most superior game of the 20th century, and that is not even a pizza-faced lie.

Truly an incredible game.

What can you say about the first N64 game. Mario can do a multitude of moves as he explores Peach's castle for 120 stars, 3 different kinds of hats, secret rooms, and new areas. All aspects of this game are stunning. Even after looking at today's Hi Res graphics, given the technology Super Mario 64 is flawless. Adventure has never been so great. Mario is the greatest video game hero of all time, and this is one of his most definitive titles.

A wonderful, wonderful platform game.

I remember hurrying to Wal-Mart at 7 a.m. the day this game came out, and it was definately worth it. Granted, it looks a little dated now, but it is still a very good game. It has a lot of variety and oodles of stuff to find. The play control is very good, Mario moves as freely as a bird. The only complaint that I have is that it ends! I've beaten it so many times that it doesn't present much of a challenge anymore. If that doesn't say how good it is, though, then I don't know what will.
