A FUN ARCADEY FUTURISTIC RACER 7.75 OUT OF 10

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

Star Wars Episode Racer is a surprisingly fun racing game. It won't make you forget Mario Kart, but it's still a good game to pass the time. If you've seen Episode I you know you'll race the pod racers around several Star Wars racing arenas. The levels are nicely designed, the graphics are good for the time, the racing mechanics are very smooth, plus this game has an insane sense of speed that feels very similar to F-Zero or Top Gear 3000. The gameplay is very smooth and never gives you any trouble. This game has damage modeling for your pod racer, so if you scratch up against a wall too much, one of your engines will explode and you will explode and die. Or, if you crash into a wall to fast you will explode and die, but it's always fun to hear Anakin scream when he explodes. You have many different characters to choose from along with levels which really keeps things fresh and exciting. The main flaws with this game is sometimes it can get a little boring, and the graphics are dated. But if you want to play something other than Mario Kart of F-Zero for your N64, this game is definitely the fix you've been looking for.

This was a great buy for the N64. I was inspired to buy this game after seeing the movie scene with the Podracing. So all an all you start off as a noob and work your way to the top buying parts for your pod. You can choose from many racers. I give this game the rating that it got for its fun with some frustrating races.

May The Force Race With you

This is the best racing game since Mario kart. The vehicles are cool and you get to play cool characters and go through cool courses. This is a must have racing game.

If you liked this game then check out all of the other star wars games.

Good Game, Not The Best

This is a very fun game, possibly the best "racing game" I have played. I normally find them very dull, "Nascar 64 anyone?" However, as a racing game, I enjoyed this immensely.

Here is the flipside. This game is not NEAR as good as, say Hydro Thunder, or Need for Speed. The best thing about this game is the multiplayer, as the single player gets old fast.

My reccomendation, find a friend, rent the game, and have fun!

good game but outdated

This game earns 4 stars for fun.
Pros
Fairly good graphics and some good sound effects plus your favorite STAR WARS characters.
Cons
Boring motive and the only thing you can do on this cartridge is race.
Overall
An okay game that probably won't be found in your attic.

When Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace was release, people were expecting a lot out of it - and were severely disappointed. However, the film, while subpar, offered its share of interesting scenes, the most interesting of which being Anakin Skywalker participating in a Podrace. This scene was so amazing, Lucas Arts made a game exclusively about it. Read on for my review of Star Wars Episode I Racer.

PROS:
-If you're a fan of Star Wars and racing games, this game will really appeal to you.
-You can choose from several different racers, each with his own machine.
-You can unlock new tracks and racers as you progress through the game.
-To make your craft better, you can purchase new parts for it at Watto's shop. The parts you buy work on ALL your racers, so you don't have to buy them more than once.
-No two racers are exactly alike.
-The ultra-fast pace of the game is going to appeal to racing game fans.
-If you want to get the most out of the game, you can steer with a two-controller scheme, mimicking the film.
-You can race against a friend.

CONS:
-Amazon said it best - NO racing game can hold your attention forever.
-Sebulba has an unfair advantage over other racers - a flamethrower weapon.
-Graphics pale in comparison to the game's PC counterpart.
-No three or four player mode.
-It's a Nintendo 64 game, meaning you have to use the system's godawful controller if you don't have a steering wheel peripheral.
-The Expansion Pak does nothing to improve the resolution or graphics (it's this way on EVERY N64 game.)

OVERALL:
This is a good (but not great) game overall. If you have the now-extinct N64, and you want to have a good time with it, this game is recommended, since a number of stores carry it for a very low price these days, both new and used. Episode I was a lame movie, but fortunately, I can't say the same about this game.
