Greatest game of all time.....

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

This game is so fun its hard to describe. For those of you who have never heard of Perfect dark here's some info. This is pretty much the sequel to the hugely successful Goldeneye except Rare has created their own character and story. It follows basically the same format as Goldeneye but is about ten times better in many ways. The graphics are better, the enemies smarter, the levels a lot bigger, and the artificial intelligence is awesome. The multiplayer is everything Goldeneye had and more. The addition of computer controlled players in multiplayer was a huge plus and deserves five stars by itself. All of the best things in Goldeneye have been transfered to P.D. Don't get me wrong though, this game is not a clone of Goldeneye it is different. This is less of a spy game but it has its own interesting plot (evil company, aliens). If you are going to buy this game you MUST get an expansion pack or you won't get all the incredible features of this game. So if you like First Person Shooters get this game now!

Best fps Ever!

Perfect Dark is an incredible game it is one of the best fps ever. You are agent dark the carrington instututes best secret agent. You are sent out on a mission to try to find out what the evil Datadyne corporation is up to. The game pushes the n64 hardware to the max, which is the reason for some minor slowdown.

Perfect dark has more replay value than any game ever created. The combat simulator is prcticaly a game of it's own, more on that later. The solo misions in perfect dark are great lots of variety not too hard but not too easy. The a.i. in the game is superb. The guards are incredibly inteligent if you shoot there gun out of there hands (you will even hear them say "Oh no my gun") they will pull out a pistol or may even go for your gun.

On to the combat simulator, the best part about the game. You can customize every single thing and minor detail to youre liking. You can even create a profile where all youre multiplayer stats are saved(like kills, deaths etc). One great thing about the combat simulator is that you can add up to eight simulats(computer controlled players) which makes it even more fun.

Pros
-Great replay value
-lots of completly custimizable options
-great a.i.
-good storyline
-lots of diverse weapons
-tons of unlockable cheats

Cons
-expansion pack is needed to play most of the game
-some minor slowdown in graphicaly heavy situations

Just Remember parents this game is quite violent definitly not for enyone uder 13.

Thanks for reading my review.

You'd have to be in the DARK to not give this game a PERFECT

After Rareware made the stunning shooter game GoldenEye, gamers everywhere hung their heads in disappointment when the decision was made not to accept the offer to make Tomorrow Never Dies. But Rare, without the inherent limitations of a movie license, created something much bigger, much bolder, something that few companies could ever pull off: Perfect Dark.

Joanna Dark is a futuristic secret agent who gets tangled in a plot involving a corrupt business corporation, a plan to kidnap the US President, and an alien partner named Elvis. Rare packed so much into this cartridge that it's hard to find a place to begin. Graphics are stellar, with massive levels and real lighting. All characters are motion-captured and move with realism, and the reloading animations for the weapons are some of the coolest you'll ever see (like the alien sniper rifle that absorbs its clips, or the sub-machine gun which reads ammo like a scanner). The one-player mode alone will keep a person busy for hours. Enemies have strong artifical intelligence - they don't run into your gunfire, they hold back, wait for reinforcements, or dodge and attack from another angle. Mission objectives increase as the difficulty level increases, and real stealth is required to make it through alive; in short, the only way to win is to completely immerse yourself in Joanna Dark's world, and pretend everyone is flesh-and-blood real. Aiding in this virtual reality is Dolby 5.1 surround sound, so you can hear bullets whiz by or track enemies by the sound of their voice.

Then there's multiplayer mode, which is the game that never ends. Four players and up to 8 computer-controlled opponents can participate, with bucketloads of options. Custom set the various weapons you want to appear around a level, including what weapon appears where. You have portable sentry guns, sniper rifles that shoot through walls, and a guided missile launcher, to name some of the more unique weapons at your disposal. Set the timer for 1 kill, 10 kills, 1000 kills, or unlimited. Activate a "matrix-like" slow-mo, choose from varied arenas, set up color-coded teams, mix-and-match bodies and heads to create the perfect character. With regards to the computer-controlled opponents, you can adjust their difficulty level, so that they're either meat for you to gun down or invincible enough to make you wet your pants. This list does not even begin to touch on all the options avaliable, or the possibilities for fun when they are mixed.

But wait, there's more! Other modes of play include a two-player missions mode and a counter-op mode where one player jumps between bad guys to stop the other player, ala matrix. The game's overworld is also a training center which has several tasks of its own to be completed.

If you must know, the game isn't technically perfect. For one, the framerate can be pretty bad at times, but usually you'll be having too much fun to notice. The storyline, for all its hype, feels somewhat undeveloped. Finally, the expansion pak is required to unlock most of the game, but the extra money to buy the pak is well worth it. Overall, these are insignificant complaints. Sorry that this review is so long, but nothing else would've done this game justice. Your jaw will drop when you see what Rare has accomplished this time. This is a game that can proudly sit alongside your next-gen console shooters.

Best Game Ever! On a 1-10 scale it's an 11! Just like Golden Eye, but better! What makes this better is that 2 people can go on a single-player game, like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six! My friend, Greg, told me about the game. I'm so glad he did, because if he didn't I'd miss out on a lot of all day. With Perfect Dark, I'm on day and night.fun. I'm not one of those people that spends my life on N-64, but I just can't stop playing this game! I'm always playing with my friends and family. When Golden Eye came out I was on that Like I said before, I'm not a person who spends my life on the N-64, but this game is too awesome! This is truely the best game yet.

Sure, I just baught a Dreamcast. Sure I just got my first threegames for it. So what? Perfect Dark is out, on the Nintendo 64! Thegraphics aren't as good as Dreamcast's, however, I found myself not caring when I became imersed in how fun the game was. Wow! By far, this is the single best game I've ever played. The game is rated "Mature" for mature adiunces 17 or older. ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) had good reasons for this. The game depics blood in an almost disgusting manner of realism. If your son/daughter wants this game, but is under the age of 17, there is the great feature of paintball mode. You don't have to earn this either! It is an added option in the display menu in order to make the game suitible for kids 13 and older. However, there is no way to make sure that they don't take it off. You are free to modify it at anytime. If you cannot trust your son/daughter, do not get it if you don't want them seeing blood! All you can do is make a deal saying if you catch them playing without paintball mode on, the game is gone. El presto disapero. Vanished. Never to be seen again. You get the point. I am only 13. My mom was not going to let me buy, or even rent for that matter this game. I said, just let me rent it, you watch it for a little bit, and it probably isn't as bad as you think it is. Well, it was worse. That's when I found paintball mode, and . . . hurray! I can play the game! I know I have not talked about the true gameplay much, but I'm sure there's at least on other review here that will tell of the true game, not just some sicko saying, gore, blood, death. Cause that is only maybe .111111111111% of the game. There is shooting thoughout the game, but there is so much more. Strategy, objectives, and much, much more. I promise you won't be disapointed in this game. I only have a few last words before I finish up this review, oh never mind. I'll just end it now, I GOTTA GO PLAY THIS GAME! See ya, thanks for reading my review.

An impressive follow up to Goldeneye.

Perfect Dark, the practical sequel to the 1997 smash hit Goldeneye, is a very good title, but not without some flaws that prevent it from being "perfect".

First, the single player mode. While it has some interesting missions and some cool objectives, it's not really the heart of this game at all. About the only cool thing in the entire single player experience is the alien Elvis, who makes some funny, and weird noises when you talk to him.

The whole purpose of Perfect Dark, is obviously it's amazing multiplayer mode. You can add up to eight simulants to the game, with varying degrees of difficulty (Darksim, don't even try and play him, you'll lose 90% of the time). There are quite a few well designed levels, and tons of killer weapons.

However, a few problems drag this game down to the status of only good, instead of perfect. First, when more than two players join in the multiplayer mode, things get ugly, very ugly. The framerate is simply atrocious, and is a major disappointment. And another thing, experienced player or not, you're guaranteed to die pretty quickly, which might turn away players who just want to get into the game.

In all, Perfect Dark is a good game for the Nintendo 64, but had Rareware spent a little while longer taking out framerate issues, and making it a bit harder to get killed, perhaps this could have been a stronger title. Buy only if you can deal with these problems, otherwise, get Goldeneye 007.

close your eyes and relax...

now imagine a game soooo so great you can throw your Goldeneye away. You might as well throw away all the rest of your Nintendo games. This game perfects everything in goldenye and more. The IA is better than in any game i've ever played, and you could play the multiplayer mode, even without the expansion pak, for months on end. The guns are so cool that i spent hours in the practise mode just playing with them. ex. in bond dont you hate when someone puts themselves in a position that you can never kill them? well in this game their is a gun where you can shoot through walls and floors, all the way across the level. Their is also a gun that shoots a rocket and then you can become the rocket and guide it right into an opponent, no matter how far away they are. Pus many, many more. And thats before you add the expansion pak. With the expansion pak you may now play the main game. Yes, all that without even the main game. The main game has a storyline that could easily be made into a blockbuster movie, with the AI intelligent 8 times better than Bond. Like Bond their are three different difficulty levels, but unlike Bond many items and people are in different locations in all three difficulty levels. Just one of those very cool extras packed into this game. With so many levels and cheats available it might be 3 months before I get everything in this game. This is the best game ever. You may now wake up.

Perfect Dark, perfect game

I bought this game the day after it came out without playing it at all, and i am definitely NOT disappointed. If you don't have a Nintendo 64, get one for this game. That is how good it is. Amazing, and that's after only about an hour and a half of play.

Is it Perfect? No, but it's the next best thing.

Ahh, Perfect Dark. The game all N64 gamers have been waiting for with baited breath. So what if it's a couple months late? The game is, simply, spectacular.

First off, graphics are top-of-the-line quality. The Expansion Pak and Rare's sheer talent push the N64 to its limits. I fear what Rare will bring to Dolphin (assuming it's launched this century...but that's a whole other story.) The sound is great, and I'm not using the Dolby option. Now you can tell by hearing where a guard is...sounds get louder as they come closer to you (The first time the doppler effect has been used in a game.)

Gameplay and controls are exactly like GoldenEye; the buttons are mapped the same way. If you've played GoldenEye, you'll feel right at home. The 40+ guns are excellent, and the inclusion of secondary functions is great.

The multiplayer is where PD goes right for the gold. The options upon options upon options is incredible. The tons of computer-controlled simulants is a great touch. I love the various scenarios, too. The multiplayer aspect of PD is unmatched on any system, ever. I can only imagine playing multiplayer Perfect Dark II (and you know they'll make it) online.

Of course, nothing is perfect. Frame-rates plunge to the unplayable level at extreme amounts of action. I was playing 4-person, 8-sim multiplayer with my friends and the frame-rate shot down to nothing. In co-op and counter-op modes (also nice touches. God Bless Rare) the frame-rates also suffer a bit.

So, should you buy it? Um....well...YES. You will enjoy it, I guarantee. Well...if you're a bit edgy on it, a rental is in order. It's a bit expensive right now. So rent it if you're not sure, buy if you're certain. Capish?

Oh, and if you do eventually play the game on your system, get a RAM Expansion Pak. It would be a sin not to experience this game to the fullest. (you can't even play the one-player game w/o it. Only multiplayer...not that that's a bad thing.)

This is just plain awesome!
