Incredible Racing Fun.

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 3

Every part of this game bursts with fun. The Grand Prix is awesome, the multiplayer is tons of fun, and even the deathrace (which looked dumb before i played it) is cool.

I would recommend this to anyone. Its one of the better games on the n64.

A good game falls short of greatness

This is a good game, I have really enjoyed playing it. Things I like: 1) There is a lot of diversity among the drivers/vehicles that you can use. 2) I liked racing against 29 other racers as opposed to the norm of 3 or 7. 3) Very fast, and the courses are great, and there are 3 levels of difficulty 4) Pretty good multiplayer gaming.

Things I didn't like: 1) Weapons. Weapons would have been nice... it is hard to use the spin and slide attacks effectively in a real race. 2) With 30 racers, they could have had more diversity. Vehicles are only distinguished on 3 attributes on a scale of A to E, and many have the same ratings. 3) The comic book theme was a little cheesy.

A tad outdated now in 2001 but still a fun racer

I have had F Zero for quite sometime now and i still pop it into my N64 frequently. That says something. You race against 29 other cars in many different courses none of which are that similar. The game play is a lot of fun, and with 30 different cars to choose from the replay value it quite high.

I would have given this game 5 stars the day is came out way back in the 1990s, but seeing as how it is 2001 i will give it 4 stars because it is a little outdated. To this day i cannot find a racing game with 30 cars to choose from where you race against 29 other cars in teh SAME RACE.

If you have a N64 buy a used copy of this game, it is a lot of fun.

Nintendo's new original racer

Nintendo has taken one of the greatest racing games for SNES and revamped it into a whole different futuristic racing game. For starters, there are 30 racers rather than 4, and this game is very fast! But to be so fast and have 30 racers, the game is very cheaply detailed. Lets just say the car your driving is very small and looks like a box with rocket boosters. Also with 30 cars 6 cars to start and 24 to earn, it gets a bit confusing as to who you should chose to race as, so there are detailed photos of each driver so that people can pick their favorite to drive as. The originality of the game is the fact that the track forms itself into any sort of shape. It goes into huge anti-gravity loops, half pipes where you can drive on the ceiling, and pipes where you can race on the outside of it... all around it... without falling off! There are three levels of difficulty, customizable colors, cars, speeds, acceleration and three circuits with seven or so unique tracks. Finally there is an original battle mode, where you must destroy other racers by knocking them off the track. This is a game you should rent before you buy.

Being creative in a racing game is kind of hard since racing is a pretty one-dimensional concept: get to the finish line before the other guy. However, by adding weapons to the equation, Nintendo created a very exciting racing game!

No wait, that was Super Mario Kart for SNES.

However, this game is not an ordinary racing game either. This is mostly because the tracks are very different. Some track segments are contained in pipes where every way is up. Two tracks are made out of a big cylander and you race on the outer surface (maybe this was done in Wipeout, but I've never played that). There's a lot of cars to choose from (maybe too many if you ask me), and you can alter your car before each race.

Overall, a good game, but nothing spectacular.

This game is the fastest game I ever played!

If you're looking for a solid racer to fill out your N64 game collection with, F-Zero X is a great choice. The graphics are low on detail, but Nintendo compensated with a huge emphasis on speed. Tracks twist and turn every which way, including death-defying jumps, corkscrews, half pipes, and cylinders. The familar F-Zero soundtrack has been updated too, and keeps the excitment high.

However, the Gamecube version basically topped this game in every aspect possible. F-Zero was a franchise where the sequels consistently made their predecessors look hopelessly outdated, and the same applies here. F-Zero X sacrifices graphic detail for speed. F-Zero GX sacrificed neither. So if you've been playing the newer versions, there's no point going back to this one.

A solid title for its era, and good if you enjoy retro gaming. Otherwise this probably won't hold your interest as much.

Very challenging, especially the Master mode.

I loved the original F-Zero on the Super NES and now, I love the N-64 version. The controls feel very similar to the original and the challenge of the original remains in F-Zero X. The graphics contain one of the most amazing frame rates (60 FPS) I've ever seen! Even with 4-players, there isn't any noticeable slowdown. The Master mode (unlocked after you beat Expert mode) is extremely hard. Buy this game, it's definitely worth the money!
