A truely Addictive Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

I bought this game today and told myself i was going to limit myself to only a few minutes of play. I have a collge final tomorrow. Well, long story short... 5 hours later i would consider myself an expert on a few multiplayer maps. This is hands down the best non sports game for Xbox Live. Most people will be buying this for its Live capabilities only(including myself). I can't begin to describe the fun this game is. Buy it for sure. You should also get Xbox Live, it makes this game sooo much better. My personal favorite mission is the Beach one. I love being on the Allied forces just because i like being the aggressor. It is good to switch sides every now and then though. Xbox is the best system on the market, and this game is one of its newest and best titles. I give it 1000 stars out of 5.

My friend Bobby Charalambos from Giannitsa is the Wolfenstein master and a genius at snipping soldiers form lookout towers and hidden crevices.

My comments on the game are as follows:

Pros:
Excellent graphics
Cool sound effects and music
Good enemy AI
Multiple locations and many many levels
Wide array of weapons choice

Cons:
A tad "propagandish"
Some missons appear out of context with war theme
Adding "occult" creatures as enemies dilutes the war theme flavour of the game.

Overall very challenging, thoroughly enjoyable and well worth a purchase.

Additionaly, this was my very first game on the xBox and admittedly the gaming console is a pure gem!

kinda like Medal of Honor but great in its own right

Reminds me of Medal of Honor plus Zombies and freak enemies. The guns are sweet, I love the range of weapons available to you so you can choose as to which one you'd like to dispose of your enemy.

One frustrating part about this game is that enemies can spot you miles away so it makes it difficult to snipe at them. I do think that some stages require you to snipe at your enemies so they're less aware even if you step in front of their point of view.

The fun factor of this game ranks up there and the stages can be quite a challenge. One of the parts I like about this is the use of checkpoints and you being able to "save" anywhere you like! I think it's smart and lets people choose which one they want to use.

The reason I didn't give this game a higher rating is that the ending kinda leaves you wanting for more... sort of like a "huh? it's over... I want more!!!" ending. I found the last stage to be easier than the stages before that... go figure.

Get this game, I recommend it. I don't have LIVE but I hear that alone is well worth the purchase.

Average game, average score

In reality Heinrich Himmler did believe and follow the occult and he did have great influence over Hitler, so this game takes a fictional detour and embellishes the storyline. The Nazis have discovered how to raise the dead and are engineering even more powerful demons they can use to field an army and crush the Amerikaners.
So you're sent in to HALT this and the game sort of patchworks together a storyline to explain how you're to stop 'em. Um, it makes little sense and that's if you can even muster the patience to sit through cutscenes and read letters scattered around the environments.
So, the story is a wash, but that aside what really matters is the game and if it is fun. Frankly, it's not. This game came out a couple of years ago before getting ported to xbox and by today's standards, say Halo, or upcoming games like Halo 2, Rainbow 6:3, XIII, and Half-life 2 I wouldn't recommend this game to sophisticated players- it will fry your brain. If you want something to kill time and aren't picky give it a try. One caveat is that the MP is fun. Try to find a good server with at least 10 people playing. It might be where I live and what time I play but it seems like few people are on and the maps seem large for say, six people.

Nothin' special

The plot of Castle Wolfenstein is like a sampling from the video game buffet - a bit of zombies, some biogenetic engineering, tossed into a WWII Nazi fighting genre. It's so strange, the characters in the game often comment "it's hard to believe that the Nazis would try that."

The bizzaro plot does not detract from game play too much. Castle Wolfenstein of course is a first person shooter. The controls are intuitive - players of other x-box games like Halo should have no problem adapting. The graphics are hit and miss. Some levels look very nice and lush - the water looks very real. Other levels are too dark, and it's hard to see. Still other levels have mediocre graphics that probably could've been done on old PS1.

The weaponry is nothing new: rifles, submachine guns, silenced pistols, knives, rocket launchers, grenades, etc. etc. I found the large number of weapons made it difficult to quickly switch guns during game play from one to another.

Overall this game is nothing new to x-box. Some parts look good, others look pretty bad. The plot is pretty unbelieveable stuff, and doesn't do anything for the game (except explain why nazis and zombies are fighting you at the same time). If you're looking for a new game, you might just rent this and beat it over the weekend. Of course, I didn't play the live version, so you might read another review for that. Finally, if you beat the game on single player mode, you unlock the old (circa 1995) Castle Wolfenstein 3D, which was a treat for someone who remembers playing it in high school!

The game has three modes; Online Vs, 1 Player Story, and 2 Player story.

I don't have Xbox Live, so I can't comment on the vs mode other than to say that the manufacturers really could have included a 2-4 player vs mode that those of us without Xbox Live could enjoy.

The one player game is OK, but no where near as good as its fellow WWII competitor, Medal of Honor. The one advantage that this game has over M.O.H. is that you can play the story mode 2-Player co-operative. Which brings me to the third mode of play.

Two player co-operative: WHAT WERE THE DESIGNERS OF THIS GAME THINKING WHEN THEY DECIEDED NO ONE WOULD WANT/NEED TO SAVE THEIR 2-PLAYER CO-OPERATIVE GAME!?!?!?! I played this with a friend for around 4 hours when we realized we couldn't save our game. What a nightmare!

So, like the title of this review says, maybe this game is good online, but it is essentially worthless if you don't have Xbox Live. Don't waste your cash.

Wolfenstein Faithful Disappointed

Ok, I played Wolfenstein way back in the day and loved it. I was thrilled with the prospect of reliving the good old days on my XBox.

Imagine my disappointment when I played this game. This has no intriguing plot like the original, the graphics are sloppy, the controls are almost "Dead to Rights" terrible, and the only good point of the game is the weapons.

Apparently, the designers got lazy, then decided to market this waste of space based on a name and some updated weapons. Leave this one on the rack, especially if you are expecting something worthy of the Wolfenstein brand.

hmm nazis can take a ... load of bullets

i had no idea a nazi could take 15 machine gun rounds and an entire clip of pistol bullets. the flame thrower was my favorite part of the game. the multiplayer is fun and that is the only strength. Enemys are ridiculousy strong in my opionon. 2 stars for the flame thrower and multiplayer. (i would never buy this game i played the demo)
