Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a winner!

Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War is everything Medal of Honor for Xbox should have been and much, much more. The presentation is suburb and the graphics are so sharp you should be careful not to cut yourself. I suppose a person could get into all the subtle details about this and that but the bottom line is if you're looking for a first person shooter that moves fast and furious and finds that perfect balance between run and gun action and an entertaining plot, Wolfenstein is it in spades! Each level slips you deeper and deeper into a creepy world of Nazi mutant zombie experimentation and into the bowels of a Third Reich hell on Earth. And it's your job to stop them before they stop you! The "wow" factor of this stunner can be found on all fronts, from it's beautifully rendered world and characters, with lighting effects to drool for. The throbbing theme music is spot on and the great voice acting rings the life out of the nifty story line. The levels and game play are deep, well designed and executed, which will most certainly keep you coming back for more. Tides of War is a mighty romp, well deserving of not only 5 stars but also a medal for gaming valor.

Addicting and full of action

Wow, a lot certainly has changed since the previous Wolfenstein on the PC. The graphics in this game are great and so is the background music.. it's kind of eerie at times. The hardest part was just getting the controls setup the way I like them. Other than that, this game is very easy to control.
The best part is that you don't need to wait for a checkpoint to be able to save your progress, you can save any time you like.
Just like the older PC version, it has different skill levels. I started out with the easiest "Please Daddy Don't Hurt Me". Even that level is challenging. There's a great selection of weapons to choose from. I have nothing bad to say about this game at all. Even though I have only rented it, I'll surely be buying this one.

Killing Nazis AND Zomibies?

Great graphics, sound and gameplay make this game without a doubt the second best first person shooter (FPS) game after HALO. What makes it so great is the 2-Person Co-Op. But be warned, I don't think you can save your progress in a 2 person game... so drink lots of coffee and make a night of it. You won't regret it.

... I haven't even touched the X-Box live portion.

This is the BEST first person shooter I have ever played. I cant stop playing it. The graphics are awsome and the sound is the best. I still can believe the story line, its great. Killing Hitlers Army, what more could you ask for.LOL. Besides the soldiers there are zombies/mummys and x-monsters which is a bonus for this game.I love playing it and it is so addictive.I cant stop playing it. I would recommend this game to anyone who loves first person shooters.

If anyone has read any of my other reviews they know I hate nazis so you should have a pretty good picture of how much I love shooting them. Anyway the review on this page talking about how much fun HE had with Halo and Tom Clancy shooters dont listen to this idiot he proved no point. So heres an unbaised anti republican(aka nazi) review. even with a generic storyline terrible voice "talents" this game still deserves a Five why its fun thats why. Instead of the gay weapons in Halo and whimpy artilery in Tom Clancy Wolfenstein delivers World War Two era weapons like panzers and lugers and some fictional yet still so awesome weapons like the Venom a nazi blasting chaingun. Another thing enemies are actually smart they dont just sit there and shoot pointlessly into the air like the whimpy Aliens from halo. They swerve when they run and shoot around corners all while fireing countless rounds of ammo and leaving your health in Dick Cheney Condition (thats not good). In short this game is so awesome and to get a picture of how long this game is it took me two weeks to beat .Halo took me less than a day to beat and if you havent played halo grand theft auto took me 3 days to beat (the double pack). Not to mention the replay value is throuh the roof.

Nazis and Zombies = I expected more from Id

Seeing this title on the shelves brought back fond memories of the original Wolfenstein 3d, one the original first person shooters and a ground breaking game. However, there is nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary with "Return to Castle Wolfenstein". Castle Wolfenstein is Medal of Honor meets Goldeneye meets Rise of the Triad meets a half dozen other games, all crammed together for a fairly average gaming experience.

I would describe the plot of the game, but quite honestly, I'm not sure what it is. The first part of the game finds you in North Africa fighting zombies, Nazis, and skeletons wearing viking helmets. We learn that a large Nazi lady is trying to resurrect an evil mummy. We jump from there to Castle Wolfenstein (the game's namesake) where the player spends all of three short levels before jumping to rocket bases, outdoor Nazi playforts and random rooms full of traps. It seemed as if the developers weren't sure what setting they wanted to put this game in, so they gave up and included a bit of everything.

The gameplay is without any glaring problems, but it's rather bland. The weapons are a generic blend of pistols, machine guns and sniper rifles. Aiming at single enemies with a pistol is a tedious affair due to the lack of analog sensitivity, and after spending 10 minutes in one of the many dimly lit levels, you will wonder why no one thought to include a flashlight in your character's inventory.

When my fondest memory of Return to Castle Wolfenstein is using the war-cry, "BLOCKY!" in reference to my friend's blocky, ugly looking on-screen character, that doesn't speak well of the game's lasting appeal. Castle Wolfenstein does it all, but doesn't do any of it very well.

WWII with zombies

I first got this game for the ps2. Dont buy this game for the ps2. So after i sold the ps2 version I dicided to pick up the xbox vesion. After reading some other revies on this game I seem to find every one is relating it to halo. Why, Halo is like the god of all fps. Nothing can beat halo except halo2. now that we have that out of the way we can get to the game. Basicly looks like Medal of Honor. A game with far more realistic plot. But wait this game supports online play. I do belive that that my friends is a first for the xbox. YAY, WWII online. I love killing Nazis from the comfort of my own coutch(I know i spelt it wrong). So over all is is a fun experience. But if you can get a better game than that I would encurage you to play it. I mean I am not telling to buy this game that is wrong. But it is still good.

a word of caution

I just got this game the other day and while I've not gotten very far yet, it's fun so far. The graphics are good and the controls intuitive.
Big problem, though. You can't save your mission in cooperative mode. The main reason I bought this game is because I enjoyed the cooperative mode in Halo so much. I already have a single player WWII game in Medal of Honor so I was excited to be able to do 2-player on this. It's frustrating beyond belief to spend a couple hours working on the game with a friend and then just lose it all because you can't save it. Unless you are willing to sit down and play for 12 hours nonstop to actually have a chance at finishing the game, the cooperative mode is utterly pointless.

This is not your father's Wolfenstein......its much better!

First off, let's get this out of the way. The single play portion of this game is good but nothing special. The 2 player co-op addition is a very nice feature but the developers made a very bad ommision when they elected to not have you be able to save your progress in this mode. For comparison, I found the SP to not be quite as good as Medal of Honor but it's close (I'm only around half way through). I had more fun with co-op but since you can't save, that mode is only really useful after you've gone through the game in single player and have unlocked all the levels.

Where this game really shines (and brightly, I might add), is in the online play via Xbox Live. I'm so addicted to this game online that I may need to seek some help soon. The game online is completely different than the regular game and it stresses teamwork on every level (all online modes are team based).

There are 4 classes to choose from each with their strengths and weaknesses and some levels you will not be able to "win" without certain classes on your team. For instance, the Engineer can plant dynamite to blow up walls you need to get through, defuse dynamite and fix broken equipment. The Lieutenant can call in airstrikes, artillery barrages, and rearm his fellow soldiers. The GI Soldier can use an array of weapons (sniper rifles, flame throwers, etc.). The Medic can revive dead troops with a shot of adrenaline and lay down health packs to heal the injured (don't worry he has a gun too :P).

The major way this game is really a different experience than the PC version is in the voice communication. It gives you far more of a sense that you are there with "real" teammates storming the beach and the feedback is immediate. There's no more typing to your teammates to take you away from the action.

All in all, this is a GREAT game if you have Xbox Live and a somewhat enjoyable one if you don't. It all adds up to a 9.1/10 in my book....eh we'll round up and give it 5 stars :-). Game on.
