Mindbogglingly Fun

Rallisport challenge is easily the best looking driving game on any system to date. It may be the best looking game on any system to date, period. The environmental draw distance is tremendous, the car models are superbly detailed. The sense of speed you get from the game is amazing, and the tracks are both varied and fun.

The game contains four modes of play: Rally, Ice Racing, Hill Climb, and Rallycross. Rallycross and Ice Racing are similar, in that they're both races against three other opponents, around circuit tracks. Rally and Hill Climb modes are both linear affairs, in which you traverse a section of track a single time, with no visible opponents, trying to best your opponents' times.

There is a multiplayer split screen mode, but no system link mode - this is probably the most serious omission, but the split screen mode is quite fun, on its own terms. The damage models are simplified, as is some of the lighting, but it still clips along at 60 FPS, or thereabouts, and even in its somewhat scaled-back presentation, it's *still* the best looking game on the market.

The driving model in the game is a little hard to get used to - at first, the cars feel a touch too slippery. But after an hour or so, you'll get used to needing to gas through the later parts of the turns, to regain traction, and you'll be powersliding through corners like it was second nature.

Rallisport has some stiff competition in Project Gotham, Gran Turismo, and the other driving games out today. It's not a direct competitor, as rally racing is pretty different than street racing. But the fundamental aspect of driving cars around courses, really fast, is *best* exemplified in Rallisport - a fantastic combination of challenging, fun, and downright beautiful.

A Ton Of Fun

As someone who takes their game purchases rather seriously, I did quite a bit of homework before I purchased this game. I went in expecting a very good game with awesome graphics, albeit with a few minor nits.

Even with these expectations, Rallisport Challenge left me pleasantly surprised. The first thing you notice when firing up the game is the simply flawless graphics. I remember back a few years when they had 'intros' to the game that featured beautiful cars and vistas, only to find that the real game was not up to that level. For Rallisport Challenge, what you see is what you get -- and I mean that in the best possible light. The jaw-dropping level of detail, in my opinion, makes this the second best reason to own an Xbox (Halo being first at this point).

Being a game, one has to find where the line between 'fun' and 'tedious' occurrs. The developers seem to have found a very good balance here. The physics model of the cars is excellent. The better cars can do more, but are much more sensitve -- as one would expect. However, if you get inverted, you can 'roll' the car over again and continue the race.

The game is centered around 'Career Mode'. You have to compete in Career Mode to open up a large percentage of cars and tracks. Out of the box, only a 'teaser' quantity of items is available.

Things to be aware of if you buy this game:
1) While amazing to look at, and a very good physics model, this is still a game. If you want a true, 100% simulation, you may have to wait. As it is, this is as close as it gets on the Xbox currently.
2) A lot of tracks and cars are 'locked' when you first buy the game. Be prepared to have a frustratingly large amount of this game unavailable (even in multi-player) at first.
3) This is a lot of fun. The variety of tracks, racing styles, and cars make it a game I can't wait to get home from work to play. Not many games really do that.

All things considered, this is a great purchase, and is something that young kids through mature gamers can have a lot of fun with. As long as you know what you're getting (a top notch game with a few minor nits), I think you'll be very pleased with your purchase.

Best Racing Game Out For Xbox

Let me start by saying that this game is the best game for anyone to buy if they like good quality racing games. Rally Sport Challenge leaves anyother racing game in the dust, including GT3 for Playstation 2. The graphics for this game are the best that I have seen in a long time for racing games. And the gamplay is easy to get used to, once you get use to the handling of the car riding on dirt, and get the turns down. There are alot of cars to pick from I link that their are like 29 different rally cars. Rally Sport Challenge has 4 different types of gameplay: Rally, Uphill Challenge, Ice Challenge, and Supercross Challenge. If you are thinking about getting this game buy it today, don't even think about renting it. trust me you won't be disapointed.

Best racing game for Xbox

I tried PGR, and returned it. It was fun, but Rallisport is so much fun to play because of drifting.

I mean, what is better... driving through cities, or driving through mountains, deserts, jungles, etc.? The graphics are the best I have ever seen. So good, they are a distraction sometimes.

Definitely recommend it to get.

Only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because in multiplayer, you cannot know what types of turns are coming up b/c there is no map, or turn signals... a person knowing the course would absolutely demolish everyone else.

oh my god, the sickest game i've ever seen or played!!

this game [is great]. if you dont have it, get it! the driving is so fun getting sideways and the graphics are amazing. you can also crash and damage your car unlike some games where you can run strait into a wall and not have any damage. this game is way better than sega gt or total immersion racing. i mean c'mon, its rally! also it has career mode where you can win cups and get new cars and tracks. did i mention the cars? they have got the sickest cars on this game. they also have hill climbing. also, this game isn't to easy. i hate games that aren't even a challenge. this game will keep you occupied fof hours after hours! they have sand, ice, mountain, and street tracks. get this game! i am so not lying. this will be the best racing game you've ever played!

It doesn't get any better than this...

I've played a lot of racing games, but by far this is the most realistic game out there... by far. Maybe the graphics aren't that amazing but the physics model is superb... it actually feels like driving a real car! However, there is one part of the game which bothers me... you can turn at 150 mph and not roll over, but, aside from that, it is a great game. DEFINITELY A MUST-HAVE!

Best racing game EVER

Let me start by saying that if you don't have a good TV (preferably an HDTV using the component cables to the XBOX), then you cannot appreciate XBOX or its games. On a little 20 inch TV, Xbox looks like PS2. But if you have a good system, this is THE game.

First, the environment graphics are the best of any game (including GT3 and Project Gotham). Sometimes I catch myself looking at the scenery and end up wrecking. The car graphics are the same as Gotham.

Second, the game play is AWESOME. Yes there is a lot of sliding, and yes, it is difficult at first. But that is how this sport REALLY IS. If you have ever watched Real rally racing, you will know that this game is as authentic as it gets. Sounds are perfect (but most people wouldn't know what real rally cars sound like). The car dynamics are perfect and it is easy to flip cars (in real rally racing, cars flip all the time). Some people are annoyed by the british guy, but this IS A EUROPEAN SPORT! Please watch rally racing on the Speed Channel, and you will appreciate this game!

finally a good racing game

Ever since Grand Turismo, I have not been able to find a racing game that could even come close to the amount of fun I had with GT. RS Challenge is the best racing game I have played since GT, I would recommend it to any and all race fans. The graphics are amazing, and the sound is cool, I love the english guy telling me whats up next, and besides, you can make your own soundtrack. The controlls are second nature to pick up, and the cars handle in a way that is easy to controll, but there is still enough realizm in the way they handle to keep me happy. When I bought the game, my sister complained that I bought that one, but now she plays it more than I do, and she doens't usually like racing games. There is only one complaint I have with the game, and that is the multiplayer mode. If 2 controllers are connected, there are 2 cars racing, you cant add any computer controlled cars. but other than that, best racing game out.

Rallisport rules!

This is the first game I got for the X-Box. First off, buy a steering wheel! All these reviews that say they have trouble controlling racing games with their control pads are incredibly dumb. You need a steering wheel! A game like "Rallisport Challenge" is hard enough with the wheel. It takes lots of tiny corrections to the wheel to keep the car in control, that's what makes these kind of games great, because it takes so much skill, that is why you will never get bored with it. "Rallisport" graphics are on the next level, incredible detail. Several kinds of racing, hillclimbs, rally racing with others, and timed events that simulate the real thing. Every time I would get to the next stage, all the A.I. cars would cream me, and I would think, " I'm never going to beat these guys." But I kept at it, and eventually I would end up winning all the stages. So you can do it, and I promise, it will be worth the effort.

Great racing game

I rented just about every other racing game before buying this one.

By far and away, it was the most fun. There is a nice variety of cars to choose from, and a large number of tracks. You're challenged to keep working at the game to unlock more tracks. There's a lot of realizm with flying gravel, cracked windshields, etc. Head-to-head is great (even my 65 year old Dad enjoyed it - when he could find his way back to the road!)

What would make it better: Online play over Xbox Live. A "beginner" mode that made it harder for my kids (and father) to run off the track.

The only alternate recommendation: if you like street racing more than off-road, then check out either Project Gotham or the Sega racing game.
