As a kid, I played Prince of Persia and was glad to see the brand revived for modern day game machines. I found this game to be one of the best ever: the graphics were great (more "matrix-like" than Enter the Matrix!), and there was definitely action... but at the same time, there was a definite storyline, a lot of thought-invoking puzzles, and nothing was *too* hard (I dislike having to use a strategy guide in order to play a game). One nice thing about the action: even though there was a lot of swordplay, there was nothing really "violent." The T rating is appropriate.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is available for the XBOX, Playstation 2,
Nintendo GameCube, Game Boy Advance and PC. This review is in reference to the XBOX version.
Prince of Persia the video game was released in its very first incarnation 17 years ago for the 8bit Apple II series personal computer. Players were wowed with its fresh style of game play that used acrobatics and swashbuckling to solve action based puzzles and aid you on your way though the stages. You didn't have projectile weapons to blast enemies from a distance, just your agility, wit and trusty sword for intense close quarters combat. Other games in the same vein came soon after to create a series, however, not until The Sands of Time did the Prince of Persia truly begin to rule.
You play as the young Prince. The story begins as your naivet? and your attraction to the alluring dark magic dagger force you foolishly claim it as your own. As a result, you unwittingly unleash the sands of time along with a deadly evil. You must now right the wrong you have created by seeking and destroying all of the evil creatures you released and recollecting the sands of time from their fallen corpses.
You will acquire new strengths and abilities as you collect the sands. These abilities will allow you to control time itself. You will be able to slow time to gain an advantage over your enemies and even reverse time to make second attempts when you fail to conquer an obstacle (or face your death). In addition to these temporal abilities the prince possesses cat-like acrobatic skills, such running on walls and incredible fighting skills all combined to make a truly powerful being.
The game is beautiful, amazingly beautiful. I had never seen a game that looked so soft and inviting while at the same time evil and menacing. The environments are lush, expansive and richly detailed. The game play is very fluid with a comprehensive combat system that just feels right and is loads of fun to use. This is one of the rare games that you simply cannot stop playing until you reach the end. Utterly superb!

I just got this game after i saw the preview for the new game "warrior within". I wanted to play this first so i bought it. I expected to be mildly amused, but not to experience a great game like Halo. I did. It was unbelievable how much fun the game was after mastering the simple controls and attack sequences. What sets this game apart from other action games is the way you can transport yourself. Insttead of simply running from objective to objective, you find yourself leaping across ledges, swinging on bars, rolling past deadly traps, and running on walls. Puzzles requires such sequences of acrobatics such as running up a wall, jumping off and grabbing a bar, swinging from that bar to another bar, swinging from that bar to a wall, pushing off the wall to a higher bar. It is so much fun that you can play for 15 minutes without combat and still be having a great time. There really arent any cons in this game. It is awesome and as you can tell I highly recommend it.
Platforming at its best.

This critically acclaimed game(IGN gives it a 9.6) did not sell that well, but is really good. It is presented as a tale told by the prince after everything happened, so you are playing the game as the prince remembers it in his memory. The tale begins with you and your father and his army besieging an Indian kingdom with the help of their vizier, who betrays them to you. You breach the outer defenses and sally forth to find a treasure that will honor your father and make him proud... The narrative and gameplay thus presented are seamlessly woven together into a great gaming experience.
Hundreds of animations for the prince make the action incredibly smooth and natural, and a marvel to behold. My favorite is wall running, which you have to do alot of. The acrobatics you will pull off in the course of this platformer will astound you. You'll jump from crumbling ledges into a balance walk on wooden beams, swing on flagpoles over hundred foot drops, run on the walls of a circular tower in a descending spiral; the levels will push the limits of your imagination.
The fighting, which some people complain about, is dance-like and rhythmic, and isn't extreme or hardcore enough for some. However, I think the fighting is still fun, and appropriate for the game's emphasis and style. The game developers change this in the sequel, which centers on fighting more.
The camera, of which you have at least partial control throughout the whole game, works well and allows you to fully explore the environments. The environments themselves are epic in scale and awesome to look at, showcasing the power of the xbox.
This is a five star game. You'll probably log less than 15 hours finishing this, but you will definitely feel satisfied at the end. And you'll probably want to replay it at least once. Oh yeah, the original prince of persia game and prince of persia 2 are unlockable. Great value!
A great game marred by frustrating battles

I love games like this that offer a sense of exploration, a good dose of logic puzzles, clever platform-style puzzles, and enough combat to keep you on your toes. It's why I loved the Tomb Raider series, and this game takes much of what worked in Tomb Raider and gives it a much needed boost in terms of fluidity and graphics. Granted, it may be unfair to say that this game borrowed from Tomb Raider since Tomb Raider was basically a 3D incarnation of the first Prince Of Persia.
The controls here are, for the most part, fantastic. In no time at all, I was able to run along walls, perform backflips, climb walls, and hack away at enemies with finesse. The designers did a great job in keeping things simple so the player doesn't get bogged down trying to remember crucial button combos in life-or-death situations. Likewise, the graphics are amazing. This may well be the best-looking game I've seen in a long time. There's a great cartoonish look to it that keeps it lighthearted even in perilous situations.
My major complaint, though, is the combat. At times, it's a lot of fun, especially early in the game when you can actually springboard off of your enemies and hack them in two on the way down. Again, the controls are intuitive, and you'll be performing awesome moves in no time. But as the game progresses, things get tougher and a lot less fun. At about the midway point, you'll encounter larger enemies that won't let you perform these moves against them (try it, and they'll just knock you flat on your back. Then they'll quickly surround you and pummel you to death.) To make matters worse, the odds are really stacked against you, and you'll often find yourself facing seemingly impossible odds. Oh, and enemies don't stay dead unless you drain their sand from them while they're down. Not tough enough yet? Okay, the enemies can teleport so they're always next to you. Still not tough enough? You can't save your game until every enemy in a location is killed. Not convinced yet? How about this-- enemies regenerate multiple times. I can't begin to tell you how many times I breathed a huge sigh of relief after finally wiping out every enemy from a large room, only to find out a few seconds later that they are all reappearing for round 2!! I have literally flung my controller across the room in frustration on many occasions while playing this game.
It's a shame that such a great game is marred by an incredibly frustrating combat system. I would have enjoyed more emphasis on puzzles, trap dodging, platforming, and exploration. When Sands of Time DOES focus on those elements, it's great. But whenever I see a large room of enemies ahead, I'm tempted to quit and keep my sanity.
short, easy, but sweet!

This game looks and feels great! It's really easy to learn the controls and the game play is very straight foreword. The graphics are on par with Splintercell (another Ubi Soft game) but the camera angles are a little hard to get used to and can get annoying in a fight.
Overall, Prince of Perisa: Sands of Time truely reflexes the original Prince of Persia game then kicked it up a notch.
This is a great game for someone who just want to sit down and play without all the thinking and starting over that's involved in some other action adventure games.

I have just finished this game and must say that is it among the most memorable I have ever played. The game not only consists of some of the smoothest animation ever seen in a 3d game, but also voice acting that is light years ahead of most other adventure games.
The plot concerns a prince who unleashes an ancient curse and must fight to undo his error. The gameplay consists of amazing swordfighting, clever puzzles and what can only be described as acrobatic moves that give you the feeling of truly flying.
There are those who claim this game is too showrt. Well, it took me 17+ hours to beat it and since you can rewind time, you do not repeat many sequences from the beggining which artificially adds playtime to a game.
I am not alone in my praise since this game has won more Game of the Year awards than any other 2003 release.
Please pick up this game so we can send developers a message that brilliance will be rewarded.
Totally Addictive

I got this for Valentine's Day and my girlfriend is now mad at me for playing it so often... I guess you can't win, but I digress. The game play is almost as good as Halo and the plot is a little more gripping than Splinter Cell. The GFX are great, the battle motion is smooth and the puzzles presented are interesting. I can't wait to get home and take another crack at it.
Whoa!

I finished this game, and was really impressed with pretty much everything about it! The graphics are smooth, crisp, and not too cartoony. The story line was compelling and kept me interested till the end. I loved all the great moves that the Prince does. Some of the most complex I have seen in a game such as this. The music was soo good, I am thinking about buying the music! The developers did a great job on this game, and I feel anyone should buy this game, even if you don't like third person games like I do...it got me hooked!

this game is pretty amazing, the graphics are the most advanced so far, with the lighting engines of the great "Splinter Cell" and the matrix-like fighting sequences
however, this game could get a little better, the fighting sequences are a little repetititititive and the monsters lack variety and the game can get a little impossible at times
so, heres my verdict, for a hardcore gamer, this is a must have, but if it doesn't seem too great, rent it and then make a choice
