good, but confusing

This game is perfect until the wierd sand monsters show up. I mean if you hit them 1,000 times with your sword and dagger, they won't die! You have to flip over them(which looks like its from the matrix)hit to the ground, then suck the life out of'em.But after awile, you get the hang of it and its really fun. I think its cool when you get killed, you can just rewind time to the piont where you're alive.Slow motion is also cool. But only use it when you die, because the only way to get some more is to go to a save piont or get a sand cloud. At some points in the game it gets so frustrating on how to beat the level. But heres a tip, pay atten tion when you're saveing, because it gives you tips on how to beat a level. I rate the game like this;

Graphics 10 out of 10
These graphics are incredible!!!! They makes you feel like you're actualy in the game. Trust me, do not skip any cut-scenes because the graphics are the best in them.

Game Play 8 out of 10
The fighting is this is exilent! The only problem is puzzles and geting past traps is at least 1/4 of the game. If you're not so good with that stuff, get a guide.

Sound 9 out of 10
The sound is awsome!! you can here every sword clash, every moan when you suck the life out of the monsters, and while you're playing there's usually a little tune.

Replay-ability 10 out of 10
Once you've played the game about 30% through, or you're stuck, start a new game. It will be a lot easyer once you've gotten past a lot of the hard puzzles its a breaze.

An Adults' Game

At first glance, the latest incarnation of the Prince of Persia seems just like any other action/adventure game out there at the moment. However, this game is more than meets the eye, with unique attributes that seem to be aimed primarily at the more mature game player.

First, the game does not develop like normal adventure games. Players are not required to think along the lines of "ok, where should I go now and what should I do next in order to get to the next level"? Instead, the various challenges are very well presented and laid out before the player, complete with the buttons to press in order to overcome them. So while there is a very short period where you orient yourself with the game (shorter if you're familiar with past Prince of Persia games), the effect of the game's approach is that game-play flows like a story read from a book. Even watching others play as the story unfolds makes for an interesting experience. And as a bonus side effect, you simply don't get stuck!

Second, there is no emphasis on quick-finger-joystick-manipulation skills; this game is not Mortal Kombat where each character has its own unique moves that take seven different button presses and extreme joystick twisting to achieve, instead offering a very simple interface that rewards the player without requiring much effort. As a result, the performance a player gets after clicking a single button at a fight scene is quite impressive (and, by the way, fights are not the main course this game has to serve).

Third, the game's overall story is shorter than normal. While many may consider it as an inferior value like disadvantage, it does not really bother me: I don't have the time to finish most of my games anyway (a quick survey shows I only managed to finish 20% of the games I purchased), so I actually welcome the opportunity to finish one.

Fourth, contrary to the current trend of multi-player gaming over the internet, the Persian kingdom offers only one mode: single player. Still, I find the game's great graphics, game-play and finishing (despite the occasional camera angle hiccups) so rewarding and entertaining that you will hear no complaints from me (as you can read, it's quite the opposite).

Overall, if you find the above attributes adequate, you will find this game to be very much a diamond in the rough.

A fun game but with very irritating combat system.

I guess this is one of the most irritating games I ever played. You kill an enemy and it reappears again and then again kill and reappear again and you kill all of then they all reappear again. And you keep on doing that for half an hour or so.

The overall idea of game is good with going back in time and correcting errors and some puzzles and some nice movememnts and traps and unique ways to clear them.
But the fighting sequence is TOO irritating for me. I Barring this irritation I would give this game almost like 9.5 over 10.
But mind it the fights are very irritating especially if you are new to XBOX. I guess just because of that I might give this game 3 out of 10.
Otherwise it is a superb game. I dont think its a good deal to make a game difficult. Just make the enemy reapper 1000 times and it will be difficult and would increase the length of game.
I was a fan of the good old Prince of Persia, but in this game these guys went too far with the fight sequences. I donot mind having just a simple sword but having kill all enemy in same room 10 times each I find it waste of game play time.
I share my thoughts with one of the reviewers who describes that you cant save the game till u kill the enemy and they reapeear again and again and again. I think this game would have been 10/10 if it concenterated on being a puzzle game and with some fight sequence.
I played like 14% level and I gave up. Most likely I am not going back on the game. There are many others great games waiting.
But yeah if you like slashing the sand creatures again and again well then this game is really lot of fun. And you ,ight give it 10/10.
I

A great title, but not flawless

Sands of Time is one of the most enjoyable and unique game experiences of the past few years and is a great adventure game. I love the graphics, animation, and sound design, especially the sounds of clanging swords and crumbling bridges. The music is great too, fitting the time period the game takes place in. It is also challenging without being frustrating at all times. The ability to rewind time is great, as well as the combat moves, my favorite being the vault and slash. I love the ability to run across walls. The puzzles don't get in the way of the action too much, although the last mirror puzzle was annoying as hell.

POP has it's share of drawbacks though. In some parts of the game the camera is downright awful, which resulted me dying from falls more times than I'd like to admit, especially when the camera zooms out when I had to make a jump that was a matter of life and death. The ability to rewind time did help with having to repeat these areas too much though. Also you spend most of the battles fighting the same enemies over and over and over. It gets repetitive. It wouldn't have hurt to throw in some different types of enemies and maybe added a couple extra boss fights. Also annoying is fighting 15 enemies you can't vault and having your AI partner Farah being too stupid and letting herself getting attacked and making no effort to defend herself. This leads to you to stop what you are doing and try to keep her from getting killed which sometimes result in you and her being killed.

All complaints aside, POP is still a great title and one that shouldn't be missed, and is available at retailers for less than $20. If you haven't gotten the chance to play it yet, you are missing out on one of this generation's classics.

Great game for game people who play games.

This game is awesome with loads of action. I had fun playing this game for hours. The only set back being that, much like the old game pitfall, you hardly die from the enemies, but because of your own stupid mistakes. The fight sequences were good but the direction of where you jump is sometimes unpredictable. Overall I had fun playing the game and figuring out the puzzles that surround you throughout.

Brilient remake of an old classic

Prince of Persia is a phenominal example of a mix between action/adventure and platforming. The platfroming is as close to gaming heavon as you can get. It is just so much fun. There were times when you would die, and you wold be happy to redo a section.

In regards to the fighting elements of the game, they could have been better. There are a variety of different moves you can do but it still isnt that deep. It is mostly contained in one button, then later you get another weapon and it uses the Y button.

The story in PoP is great. You activate the sands of Time and you have to escape the castle in which they are spreading. while all of this is going on, you have to find the assistent to the king of persia, you father is the king, and kill the assistent. Im not goning to reveal all of the story to you so you have to play it to find out.

The only thing I dont like about this game is that it is one of the hardest games I have ever played. even on the easy difficulty level. On hard, its almost impossible.

Overall, Prince of Persia The Sands of Time is one of the best platforming games ever made.

Concept-Bring back the Prince from old times.

Presintation- 9.5- Overall, a great package, with good menus and box art, it brings the Prince's world to life.

Graphics- 9.0- This game is pretty. The lighting, texture work is all great. Though the character models could use some work as well as the lip syncing.

Sound- 9.2- Music is awesom, voce overs are good, battle sounds are good as well.

Playability- 9.7- It works perfectly. i would give a 10, but the camera can be a bit wonky.

entertainment- 9.6- In my mind, one of the best platformers of all time.

Replay Value- 7.0- One you finish it, you might want to play it again, but chances are you got so frustrated that you dont. The remake of the original PoP is a nice addition.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time - Circa 2003

GOOD:
- Unique control over time (time rewind is very helpful and cool)
- Lots of exceptional and unique acrobatics and puzzles
- Great remake of the classic Prince of Persia franchise

BAD:
- Combat is not truly fleshed out, feels lacking and repetitive
- Many consider game overall short
- No real boss battles to speak of

IF IT FITS YOUR TASTE:
- Lots of acrobat jumping, climbing, wall-running, as well as puzzle solving
- Not a God of War/Devil may Cry type of game at all

GAME ITS MOST ASSOCATED TOO:
- Prince of Persia: Warrior Within
- Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- Hidden in the game is a unlockable version of the original Prince of Persia (original Prince of Persia 2, unlockable on Xbox version only)

Amazing, captivating game!

This game is one of the most impressive games I've played in the past 15 years. The gameplay is challenging, but not impossible--the agility and range of motion of the main charachter makes everything possible. However, you have to figure out where and how to direct him. He will then execute flawlessly. This game is a puzzle game *and* a fighting game. I believe it is suitable for both adults and children--it will build problem-solving skills for all ages. The storyline and visual effects are detailed and obviously well thought-out.

I would recommend this game to anyone and everyone. I have demoed the game to friends from 20-40 years old and they all are instantly hooked.

I personally found no shortfalls with this game. Stunning. I am going through it for a second time to re-experience this wonderful game. Five stars!

Well, I don't share your enthusiasm, but......

I am the kind of gamer who absolutely requires, in this order for a great game: a good plot, good controls/gameplay, and good graphics. This game, in my opinion, falls short on at least 2 of these.

The plot is sort of neat, but it really feels more "in the background" than anything else. Nothing terribly exciting happens that you couldn't predict, but it is nicely done. I especially like the fact that he's telling the story, and its funny to hear him go, "no no, that isn't what happened...". Nonetheless, the story is addicting and you really feel like the prince.

The controls were hard to become accustomed to, but they ended up being great. Since the combat is fairly unique (the sand people have only one weakness--dagger of time), it takes a while to learn your abilities, but they are very neat. The gameplay IS SO LINEAR YOU COULD CHOKE. This is by and large the most annoying failure of the game. There is only way to go, and only one way to do it. You'll be running, jumping, swinging, climbing, dodging, shimmying, etc. the whole game. Whereas I do agree with someone else's review that this you feel great pulling these things off at ease, it gets tedious and repetitive. It never gets more difficult, the only difference between the beginning and end of the game is harder battles and usually timed switches. You cannot have a great game built off the concept: jump the gap, pull a switch, lame partner jumps a hole, pulls a switch, repeat repeat repeat.

The game is also too short. It really is a better rental, as it can easily be beaten in 3-4 days (if that). The major point is the graphics and sheer fun you have performing the acrobatics. The game is immensely fun despite these setbacks, and the scenery is indeed beautiful. You should definitely play it.

For those who care, it is also nice to know that the game is not that violent. You can only call it gore if you count flying sand as gore. The battles are hard, but the rest is easy, appealing to younger and less experienced gamers. Recommended.

A beautifully executed game...well worth the wait

Those who played Prince of Persia 3D have been left with nothing but nightmares. Jordan Mechner, the famed creator of the title, himself might have had sleepless nights regretting making this disaster. Yet the legacy has survived because the ubiquitous company called Ubisoft took over the reigns and brought out Prince of Persia : Sands of Time, a game so unique in both style and execution that the result is a fantastic adventure of epic proportion.

You are the Prince, a warrior of immense skill and heart. When your father the king, invades a neighbouring kingdom and claims ascension, you seek the dagger of time , a legendary artifact that is said to manipulate time itself, as a gift to him. But when you pay heed to the deceitful Vizier and unlock its secret power, the sands of time is unleashed and the entire kingdom's inhabitants are transformed into zombies, save for you and a princess called Farrah. Together , you and Farrah must journey across the entire palace to unlock the true agenda of the Vizier and restore the sands of time.

Interesting story, really. But it becomes second nature to the gameplay. Your prince is one agile character. He can scramble, flip, rebound, beam-walk, shimmy and do tons of other stuff with a grace and fluidity not seen in any game to date (barring Ninja Gaiden). I've heard that the prince has more than 750 animation moves !. Talk about thoroughness. The combat is all melee and the prince has a number of moves in his repertoire; flanking, defending, wall rebounding, vaulting etc. He has basically two swords at any time. A Scimitar, that will change to better versions as you progress and the Dagger of Time, his main magical secondary. With the Dagger, the Prince can unleash time reversal. You can reverse time anytime you wish so as to re-perform an action. Say you accidentally fell off a cliff, you can reverse time a bit and perform and avoid falling off again. But this can only be done a said number of times, depending on the number of 'sand tanks' the prince has. However the combat can become predictable as you will be facing only a few types of zombies all through the game, but it is still fun. The game is also pretty linear even though it appears open-ended. Fortunately, the save points are many and easy to find and at no point would you find this game daunting or habitually frustrating. You'll also have Farrah by your side at times and the result can be some very amusing verbal exchanges. A great add-on.

Also the sounds are top-notch with the ambient sounds and voice acting especially noteworthy. Ubisoft has taken great care to make this fantasy world even more believable.

But the real beauty is the graphics and level design, more so the latter. Graphics is one of the best around and the game has a soft look to it, probably showcasing the transient beauty of the Arabian environment. Little additions like puffs of dust when the prince moves to the shimmering light from the palace windows, makes this game all the more beautiful to look at. The XBOX version supports enhanced lighting effects and greater polygon count, providing a richer, more immersive environment. And it is faster too. All in all, it is a feast for the eyes.

But as I said, it is ultimately the level design which is astonishing. The Palace is immensely huge and varied, immersing you into a plethora of myriad architectures and puzzles that are both intuitive and interesting. Every level has been meticulously detailed and laid out ingeniously. The outdoor environments are downright jaw-dropping. At certain parts of the game, you have waterfalls , shimmering down into an endless abyss while you gaze far away into the mountains. Not even Halo gave me that sense of awe as Prince of Persia did. Hats off to the designers. Really, hats off.

All in all, DON'T rent this game. Buy it!. It is worth every penny. It delivers a sense of grandness that very few titles can match. As its sequel, Prince of Persia :Warrior Within is due to be released shortly, you'd appreciate it even more if you played this classic. I assure you you will not make a bad investment, even if you aren't a fan of this genre.
Have fun.........
