90% of gamers will only see the first 15% of this game- for there is a respawning never ending battle level that simply cannot be won (I'm not kidding). I am a relatively advanced gamer, and I have to say that this battle system is amongst the worst I have ever tried to play. It results in an unplayable game that will stop you 15% of the way through it. What a rip off! No kidding- no cheats, nothing you can do but try and try again- ultimately failing. I even brought in other advanced games who all looked at me like I was crazy for suggesting they try to beat this battle it is so ill conceived. Simply the worst game out there masking under the veil of nice graphics - too bad since they are gorgous (from what I saw of them). When are these game developers going to realize that 90% of gamers out there won't deal with quality this poor. I cannot beleive anyone has ever gotten past this level it's that hard and rediculously stacked in the favor of the game. Don't waste your time unless you want to play 15% of a game only to hit a massive brick wall. Shame on Ubisoft for allowing this garbage out on store shelves!
Excellent game - but a little buggy

I agree with a previous reviewer who said the first battle is very hard - the game doesn't prepare you for this sufficiently and I *almost* gave up but I'm glad I didn't. It is more than possible to beat these guys but you have bide your time; blocking, blocking until the right moment to strike. Battles take minutes - not a few seconds and can have you fighting around the entire area. Once I'd worked out the fight system I was away - acrobatically leaping around the place, solving puzzles and killing bad guys and having a great time.
The game is frankly a joy to play - you rarely feel a series of jumps is unfairly hard and for the most part enemy battles are fun and very cinematic.
Much praise has been heaped on the graphics and rightly so - I would however have like a little more varity in the feel of the game. Even ice caverns had a similar subdued look, which, whilst were in keeping with the overall appearance, didn't come across as different enough to create the impression of a new place.
So it's a great game well worth your money - but I do have a problem with the bugs. It's by far the most buggy XBox game I have so save often - go back to save points even if you've done very little since the last save and don't overwrite previous saves. You will have to go back to a previous save at least once.
Sometimes the prince would get stuck in a falling motion and this motion carried onto the restart so when you reloaded the prince is still waving his arms as though dropping to his death, despite being an inch off the ground. Other times the game simply said 'no no no' and crashed out to the retry/quit screen, and at least once a non-playing character (the female lead) committed suicide by leaping off a wall, thus preventing any progress since she was required to open a door.
Sure I could've lived without these issues, but they don't prevent the game from being enjoyable. Go get it.
Absolute pleasure to play

What made this game a real pleasure to play for me was that all the character moves were really simple. One or two button combos at the most. The transitions in the graphics are really smooth and lucid. The backgrounds and drawings are fantastic. The story narration and character dialogues are crystal clear making it very easy for players to completely follow the story. Players might want to have a guide handy. Procession through some of the levels is not very intuitive.
a great game, but very frustrating at times

prince of persia is one great game to add to any xbox collection. it has some some really fantastic graphics, some of the best ive ever seen for a console game. the gameplay is great but also at times very frustrating, let me explain this all.
the graphics, like i said, are outstanding. not only is this game gorgeous to look at, but the graphics really expand on the overall atmosphere and mood of the game. the sound is superb, but sometimes its kind of misleading, for example, a huge bridge could collapse from right under your feet, but it sounds like your dropping a pebble on concrete.
the gameplay itself is pretty intense, the puzzles can be really mindboggling, you spend a lot of time figuring some out. the traps can also cause confusion, as you have to stop and plan how you're going to get around them. the worst, and i dont put this lightly, WORST part of this game is the horrendous fighting. sure, the acrobatics are amazing, and you can pull of some really awesome moves against enemies, but most of the time your spent running around frantically trying to stay away from enemies, who most of the time are surrrounding you. you won't get any breathers, so if you're low on health and go for a drink of water, too bad, ALL the enemies can transport and smack you into next week while you're taking a drink. to add on to that frustration, the ONLY way you can kill them is if you stab them with a dagger while they're on the ground or slice em up while they're frozen in midair. thankfully, this terrible fighting system was dramatically changed in warrior within.
another thing i noticed is that the game isn't very long, i beat it in about 6 hours. however, the replay value is incredible because you can unlock the very first prince of persia games, which is very cool.
overall, sands of time is a fantastic, and while i may not consider it to be one of my favorites or a game of the year, it certainly stands out from many xbox titles, get sands of time and warrior within, i promise you will not be disappointed.
Unparalleled!

I recently just purchased this game over amazon and had no problems even though it came from a third party. It came shipped just like you would have bought it in a store. I bought this since I saw a friend playing the newest installment of the Prince of Persia series. He recommended it and Now onto the game of what I thought.
I will try not to ruin the game for everybody but this is a great game. I, as for many others could hardly put down the controller. The story starts out as you see him running through a forest talking about time. And I will stop right there because then I would spoil the story.
One particular problem I had with the game was that I could hardly hear the characters talking. I had to turn it up so loud that during the fighting sequences, it was blasting my ear but when it came to cut scenes, it was just loud enough to hear. That I did not enjoy. Maybe I am just the only one who had a problem with this. So a minor set back
Another problem I had was the fighting sequences. When you had numerous enemies surrounding you, you puch one button to do a move, and it does the opposite of what you want it to do. Plus, I had problems with not being able to block an enemies slash. So there were times where I was hit three to four times and nothing I could have done about it, even with dagger to move back time.
The last problem I had was how easy the game seem. Some of the puzzles are challenging, but others are very simple and you will fly right through them. The hardest one is known as, "The Hall of Learning." I had to resort to a walkthrough to figure it out and I hardly do that! The final boss in the game, I found it very easy to beat and I expected more.
Overall I would still highly recommmend this game to anybody. It is fun, hard to put down, and it gets you involved in the story. Be prepared for some minor setbacks so that is my reason for the three stars.
Has the potential to be fun, but frustration reigns

I had read so much about this game that I was really excited to try it. I've now spent about 4 hrs playing it and am glad I borrowed a copy before I spent $60 to buy it.
The graphics are beautiful and the story is compelling, and the way the Prince can move is unlike anything I've seen before in a game (he can run up and along walls, do amazing death-defying jumps and all kinds of other acrobatic feats - he's quite an agile fellow!). The puzzles are interesting and not too difficult to solve.
Where this game loses points with me is the difficulty level and the scarcity of game saving points.
First of all, the prince's acrobatic feats require a level of precision in your gameplay that can often be difficult to achieve. This means the player could often find him/herself trying to do one particular section over and over again until finally managing to get it right (and sometimes you don't know how you managed it - it seems like it was just a fluke!) It seemed like almost every tiny little section of this game had to be played over and over again until I got it right - leading to frustration and occasional boredom (I want the story to move forward, not to be trying for an hour to get through one room in the palace.)
There's nothing more frustrating than being stuck trying to win a difficult part of the game and not being able to save until after you have finished it - the only alternative being to go back 45 minutes to the last save spot. I gave up on this game in frustration yesterday - I was trying to complete a very difficult battle sequence, which I only got to after repeated attempts to get through a door that was on a time delay with many tricky death traps to get past between the lever that opens the door and the door itself. I could see that after the battle was over I would be able to save. Yet I was really fed up and needed a break - but by turning off the Xbox I lost an hour of very hard-won progress.
I haven't come across a game this unforgiving in ages - even some of the most challenging games I have played (and enjoyed) have allowed me to save at will, or at least offered frequent save spots so that I don't have to repeat a huge section of the game over again if I have to turn off the game to go and attend to Real Life before I can get to the next save spot.
In all, I rate this game disappointing - I had read so many enthusiastic reviews, and was really looking forward to playing it. I *wanted* to play this game which made me keep trying long past the point of utter frustration. I guess I'll go curl up with a good book instead.
UnFREAKINGbelievable!!!

I've finally figured out why some people have been rating this game anything LESS than 5 stars -- it requires you to THINK. And think. And think. And think some more!!
The graphics and animation will stun you for the first few hours but after that, as you get deeper into the game, the environmental puzzles can get really complex and you will probably at some point, after having tried every conceivable option, end up laying the controller down, leaving the system and TV on, and just staring at the screen with NO IDEA how to proceed. Then, after you've taken a few minutes/hours mental break you'll come back to it and -- CLICK! -- all of a sudden you'll know what to do! There's really no other way around it so listen up...YOU WILL GET STUCK. Regardless of how brilliant you think you are, it will happen -- eventually. But just as soon as you've given up, the solution will come to you so don't worry.
Again, you are in NO WAY prepared for the graphics and animation in this game. The fight sequences are a bit generic and most of the prince's special and coolest moves you have no control over and will be executed by the system after you've hit the action button. It's all cool to watch but you will CONSTANTLY be moving the prince around and pushing buttons during them. At first the sheer number of enemies and their annoying habit to regenerate themselves will frustrate you and force you to re-fight sequences multiple times but once you get the hang of it you'll be ok.
The next-to-last stage (Climbing the Tower of Dawn) is worth the price of admission in and of itself. YOU HAVE NEVER...NEVER...NEVER experienced a truer sense of height as you will experience when you start to climb this thing. You LITERALLY climb your way into the clouds! There has never been a game, in my opinion, with a graphical presentation this convincing! There is one other stage with this same awe factor but all the stages are completely amazing to look at.
You might have seen this game in the stores and dismissed it as just another "kiddie" game but trust me, the amount of thought and strategy you need in order to complete it makes it challenging beyond anything you're likely to experience.
And did I mention the graphics and animations? Ok, I thought I did! Buy this game. Now.
Pretty Cool

There are not alot of games out there that offer a good mix of action and problem solving but this is one. Throughout the game your running along walls, swinging from ropes, climbing up columns and walking small ledges at perilous hieghts in order to find your way through a wrecked and trap filled palace. Once you are on solid ground you get to try you hand at fighting the sand creatures. The graphics and controls in this game are great and its fun to play a character who can cruise around like spiderman. This game is definitely worth a try.

There were moments in Prince of Persia that reminded me of why I play video games - pure moments of inspiration, immersion and intuition. For those moments alone the game is worth purchasing.
Most of today's platform-style games frustrate me for two reasons: impossibly complicated puzzles and bosses that simply require you figuring out a "trick" in order to defeat them (and why do we need bosses anymore anyway? Weren't they just another way to get kiddies to pump more quarters into machines? Now it seems like bosses are most often used to simply extend a game's length... but I digress...) Fortunately, Prince of Persia rarely gives in to these cheap shots. Most of the puzzles involve getting from point 'A' to point 'B' and MOST of the solutions can be figured out in a reasonable amount of time (and when all else fails, you can always find a good FAQ online). And...get this... there aren't any bosses. Hooray!
I agree with some of the criticisms of the game. I too found some odd graphical glitches throughout, those these were fairly minor. The camera was not always a pleasant experience (sometimes it would get caught behind a wall just as I was fighting an annoying blue warrior) but again this was not a frequent occurrence. The save feature (you can only save at certain points and at certain locations in the game) was annoying at first but I came to find a rhythm in working from save location to save location.
Overall I loved the PoP experience. It took around 10-11 hours to complete the game - and that's not including the attempts and reattempts at various puzzles. I highly recommend this to anyone with an interest in platformers.
