This game is unreal!

They did it again with the newest iteration of UT - Graphics are outstanding, sounds are outstanding, and overall its just fun to play (THE only game to keep me up beyond 2am playing!)

Why is it so good? FPS DM/CtF type games are a proven winner, this one takes it to the next level. Speaking of levels, you'll find plenty in this one- enough to keep you busy for quite a while.

Something that made the first UT so good are the people out there who write mods for the game- you will find such people for UT2K3 as well, these provide you with some very interesting changes in the game; assuring that you will not get tired of Unreal Tournament 2003 for quite a few days (months? years? milleniums?)

Overall, this game was done *perfectly* in my sight- the ai and weaponrly seems balanced, there is just nothing i could think of that would make the game any better. If i could give it 6 stars I would. Enjoy Unreal Tournament 2003 - it's money you won't regret spending.

Great.

I'll let you know right away that this game is basically the same as the original Unreal Tournament. However, there have been updates in every area. The graphics are spectacular now, and the player skins are extremely detailed (I especially like the Egyptian skins). Can't wait for new maps and mods to come out.

Speaking of new maps, the game still comes with the editor, and it's improved immensely as well, with more buttons and options than you can shake a flak cannon at. Map makers should be very happy with the new Editor.

So far, so good....& the clock is ticking *edited*

Yipes, is all I can say.....I just played several maps of a late-beta version of UT 2003. I had previously played a much earlier version a few months back, and was (tentatively) a little scared of the game, to be honest, because the game was just sooooo jumpy, the AI was terrible, and worst of all, I couldn't see anything of beauty in the gfx dept. Turns out I should have just waited, because UT2003 is going to be THE gaming experience of the next two years. It already has been, for me, and I've only played about an hour's worth.

The first thing I noticed as I played this newest version was the gorgeous level design. UT is well known for its crazy and graceful level design, but the Digital Extremes folks really took it to another plane now that they've got their teeth into it. Complimenting this is some unbelievable character animation. I was almost completely and sincerely fooled at times as to whether or not I was chasing a real person on the screen, the fluidity of motion was just that good. On the whole, the game is just fantastic to look at, and to top it all off, it plays well on my machine. I had the graphics and sound cranked up all the way with no trouble. OK, I do have a [outstanding] rig, but seriously this is bleeding edge stuff, and my machine is a few months old now....it was encouraging to see that a good system with a GF3 card and 512 MB DDR RAM isn't quite over the hill yet. Epic Games has always tried to cater to the old school crowd too though, so don't be surprised if the game runs pretty well no matter what the system, within reason. I remember playing UT with my old 233 MHz laptop with a 2D gfx card, and I had a ton of fun, so suffice it to say, this game will bring a lot of fun with it even if you can't always hear all the bells and whistles of the advanced graphics.

I also can't say enough good stuff about the sound of this game. I really can't describe it in any way other than to say, if you've played Thief 2 and appreciated the little squeaks and shimmy-sounds like I did, you're gonna dig this game, because the game is incredibly detailed like that, only about ten times better than T2. In a time where graphics capabilities are all the rage, it's nice that they took the time to add some sweet sounds to the game for audiophiles like myself. (The music seems cool, too, although the version I played had a limited soundtrack)

I can't say it any clearer than this: if you weren't a fan of UT before now, chances are this game is going to suck you in with the rest of us. & I just hope you aren't waiting for me with a flak cannon when I see you on the other side...

/begin edit - 11-01-02

Well, the day has come and gone, and on that fateful day of October 2nd, I went to EB and bought this game, thinking I was in store for exactly what I had said above, but (and I really hate to say this)....it didn't quite turn out to be the revolution in gaming that I was expecting and hoping for.

Granted, it's a good game, and will probably be voted game of the year at more than one gamer's website. However, when compared to the original UT, I'm afraid that there is no comparison. Perhaps I'm jaded more now than I was in 1999, as far as graphics go.....indeed it really is a pretty game to look at, and no doubt the gameplay isn't really lacking so much as it is just slightly not as in-your-face as the last iteration.

I don't know, I guess the speed of the game is just slightly off as compared to UT, among several other very subtle differences that sort of contribute to the overall sense of disappointment I feel when disconnecting from a server. I'll tell you what though, playing this game HAS sort of revived my interest in the old UT, which is odd I guess since this 2003 game is basically supposed to essentially replace the former game. To sum up, I guess I'd say that I'll have to wait awhile before really making a final call on this game, since hopefully Epic will continue their tradition of not only patching the game regularly, but improving it and adding new features and map packs that just might make this game a truly remarkable experience, after a bit of work.

good as the first

As you may know atari released its follow up to one of the best fps for the pc and it has the best the new engine and the bump mapping is very cool but if you have a farley low end system (pentiumIII)like i do you don't have to go out and buy a new system just go out to staples and buy some ram and buy a geforce 4. Well i downloaded the demo on a pentium 3 500mhz geforce 4 128mb ram and a soundblaster card and it ran pretty friggin good on the medium/high settings but i do plan to 512mb of ram soon and it will make gameplay much better and also the graphics.

OK Game

This game is pretty fun. The ragdoll physics are neat. But the weapons are horrible. Sniper rifles should kill in one hit, that simple. it should reward you for headshots, but 2 shots to the chest doesn't work. when u r a sniper, 1 shot is often all u get. They really messed it up from the original Unreal Tourney. The original is much beter, and I now have that installed, While 2003 collects dust. It's a good game, but it just looks real pretty, the actual game is only ok.

A fun and seemingly irresisgtable game.

The game expands the very idea of what a first person shooter is meant to be. With the rag-doll pyhsics and the seemingly overwhelming sence of detail, you would think you were right there in the action. Not to mention one of the best map/mod editor that i have ever seen, the game is truly amazing. Also the online gameplay is smooth and clear. GET IT

Truly Unreal

Oh.
My.
God.

A friend of mine sent me the URL of the UT2003 demo this weekend and I installed it without expecting too much. I've been playing first person shooters since Doom and it's been a while since I was truly impressed by a game. The original Unreal was great, but UT had little more to offer besides better graphics. This may be true with UT2003 as well (although I do not think so) but the graphics completely blew me away and for that reason alone I've pre-ordered a full copy of the game. This game is as far beyone UT and Quake3 as they were beyond Unreal and Quake, and probably even more so. And to this add new character models, new weapons, a vastly-improved user interface and native support for Windows XP and you get a FPS to die (or frag) for. I can't wait for October 1st...

Very good

this game is the best for gamers who enjoy a good first shooter.

It will be this year's game of the year

This is the must-have-on-the-day-it-is-released title for the year. Will probably dethrone Quake and Counterstrike. What I like the most about this game (and it's predecessors) is the fast gameplay, absense of demonic or satanistic characteristics, and awesome graphics engine.

Forget Unreal Championship

It is quite obvious that Digital Extremes, Infogrames, and Epic Games are going all out for this game. I am much more interested in this than the X-Box game, because X-Box is a bad console. For console gamers, Gamecube is the way to go. It has a controller with only one zip code, and it has much better games. But I digress. I have seen more gameplay of Unreal Tournament 2003 than the rest of my friends put together, due to some inside sources. The graphics are stunning, the "never seen before" death animations are there, and the gameplay is the same good old frenetic action except with much better graphics, more weapons, new modes of play, and more focus on team-based play with more intelligent and realistic AI that acts more human than any before it. Technologically, the game has come far. The gameplay, graphics, sound, and overall fun factor are on track to make this an excellent sequel to an excellent game. To that X-Box loser, i mean, lover, the control scheme in the Unreal series will be massacred on the ugly, bulky, hard-to-use X-Box controller. The only way to feel Unreal is with a nice computer, keyboard, and mouse. Unreal Tournament 2003 will evolve multiplayer action gaming just like its predecessor.
