You must get this game

This game is amazing, its definatley one of my favorite Xbox games that I own yet. Whats so good about it, in my opinion is that it throws you into the game right away with no special training missions u must do before being able to start the real game. The controls are easy to master and the game itself is amazing. The story plot involves a cop (max payne) who had a perfect life until he came home one day and found his wife and baby murdered. After that he goes a little crazy and decides to take on the whole entire crime under-world of New York City to see who,and why soembody did this. What i like best about the villians is that in the beggining of the game the villians are just cheap, sleazy mafia people and gangsters, but once the story really starts to unfold and your plunged into wat is going on you will be taking on swat-team type villians its all cool! The graphics are very good and the bullet time feature is amazing and unlike other games that tried to do bullet time before, this one works and really makes it seem natural and sleek and stylish. So I definatley think that you should buy this or at the least rent it and im praying that they will be making a sequel soon!

This Game is the Bomb.

I wrote a review of this game for the PC before and gave it 5 Stars, and I'll give it 5 again. I'm buying this for the Xbox because I feel this game is much better suited for the Xbox than the PC. Why you may ask. Third person shooters play a lot better on gaming consoles than the PC. I loved it on the computer now I'll love it even more on the Xbox. This game is a must but for the action junkies, and it makes HALO look like SPIT. (You guy know what I mean.)

Innovation Deserves Recognition

Max Payne was the subject of alot of hype last year, and for good reason. The games level of innovation is unsurpassed by any game I've seen, although not quite as much as Oddworld or HALO. Let's not forget, Doug Welzel from Kirkland, that Max Payne is NOT a first person shooter where the main character is working to save the planet. It is one desperate man at the end of his pitiful rope. That being said I'll tell you a little about the game.

As you have heard many a times, the game features a very cool move dubbed "bullet time". At any time during game play you may press a button and Max Payne will automatically leap forward in super slow motion. Max himself can actually maneuver quite well in "bullet time" but the enemies in the game are basically frozen. I like the feature alot but it does make the game far too easy at times. I was able to play through a 3 levels in a row without dying once. All you have to do is hit the magical button before you go around any corner and if there was an enemy he was screwed. This is one reason for the 4 star rating.

The game starts out with you in your own home 3 years before the present and 3 durranged drug addicts have killed your wife and baby girl. This, of course, sends Max, the once accredited cop, on a crusade-like mission to avenge his families deaths. This makes for a very good excuse to go around shooting without rhyme or reason, you have been transformed into a bitter lunatic. You kill anything and everything in your path on your way to the source of the drug "V" that made those durranged drug addicts, well, drug addicts in the first place.

Basically there is no story in Max Payne, there claims to be one but there really isn't. However, it doesn't detract from gameplay at all. I couldn't possibly care less why I'm killing these people, I just want to have some fun, hence the name "game!"

I highly reccomend Max Payne. It is true that once you play it through once you most likely won't play it again, but that's what trade-a-game is for. Get Max Payne, enjoy it thoroughly for 15-20 hours, then move on to the next game. What more could you expect?

Just like the PC

It's a fact, the graphics for this game were not enhanced in any way compared to the PC version, which dissapoints me slightly, but it's still a blast to play.

The game that "bullet time" saved.

Let's be honest, shall we? Max Payne is a pretty fun game, but if you scratch through the exterior you see a mediocre shooter. First off, if you remove the only special part of the game (bullet time) it becomes a very boring, unspecial release. Bullet time is the only thing that saved this game. I've also never played a more linear shooter in my life...and I've play LOTS of them. You are never even presented with a choice of even two directions. If you walk into a hallway with 6 doors, the one you just walked through is locked as are all the rest except for the one they want you to go through. This game handholds you through every level, never giving the player the choice of where to go. The models are blocky, the cars models are too big in proportion to the character models, the textures are blah, Max looks like he's always constipated, the story (though it can be followed) must have been written by a 12 year old on too much Kool-Aid. Load times on the Xbox version are frequent and long enough that they have to add a status bar so we can watch it. In fact, the whole load game scheme is wrong. Right after game data is loaded we're presented with a motionless storyboard that moves the story along. Why not load the storyboard, then load the game data WHILE WE'RE READING IT!? This would make it seem like there's absolutely no load times. (sigh)

And this is the real kicker...it will only take you about 8 hours to finish. What a deal! And once you're done there's no replayability other than the baddies can kill you even faster. No bots, no multiplayer...nothing.

I'm just being honest, that's all. Max Payne has been bouyed by hype when in fact the game just isn't that good.

Max Payne is one of the best for the X-Box

Max Payne is an excellent game that isn't as perfect as the PC version, but is a lot better than the Playstation 2 version. This game is very addicting and the storyline drags you into the game. Bullet Time and the other in game action make Max Payne one of the best games for X-Box. Below is my review of the game...

SINGLE PLAYER

At first, like in Halo, the controls will confuse you and you will hate them. What people don't understand is that they are set up for people who are used to a keyboard and mouse. But after about 15 minutes to a half an hour, you will love the controls. The controls make the game so much more fun making it easier to kill bad guys. The story in Max Payne at first seems like an awesome interesting mob story, but soon becomes a predictable straight to cable tv movie type of feel. But the story is not what makes the game so good, its the actual gameplay. Single Player is great but is the only way you can play the game (there is no cooperation play, multiplayer, or online play) And don't worry, there is a special option that teaches you how to play the game. While the game might feel a little bit repetitive it still is as fun as hell.

BIG PROBLEMS WITH MAX PAYNE

I would give the gameplay for Max Payne 5 stars, it is addicting, fun, and just down right awesome. Fans of movies like The Matrix, (John Woo's) The Killer, and The Round, will feel like they just got put as the lead role in one of those types of movies. But, Max Payne still has some big problems. There is no cooperation play which made Halo that much more fun (but that really wouldn't have worked anyway, you can't be another Max Payne, you can't be Max Payne's partner because his death is what the stories sub plot revolves around, and there no other characters that are on your side like Max's partner was. Well, maybe you could be Mona Sax or somethin) Another problem is there is no muliplayer! How great would it have been running around the Hotel shooting at Jack Lupino, Mona Sax, and members of the different Mafias and other characters. And the last problem is that there is no online play, hopefully with the sequal there will be.

GRAPHICS
The graphics in Max Payne are good, not AMAZING but they are good. I feel the game could have taken more advantage of the X-Box becuase some of the people in the game look kind of weird. Overall the graphics are very good and is only second best to the PC version. The graphics are so good though that you feel like you are watching a movie.

SOUND
The sound in the game is good and the characters voices really add to the game. It is like a movie with all of the acting and the gameplay sound is good with all of the bullets flying around and so much going on at one time. It is fun to just stop and listen to what the mobsters are actually talking about sometimes. They talk about anything from the ending to SEVEN (one of the best endings ever and one of the best movies ever, along with MEMENTO, L.A CONFIDENTIAL, FIGHT CLUB, EVIL DEAD II, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, THE SCORE AND SCARFACE) They also talk about The Usual Suspects (another one of the best movies ever). Mobsters also talk about vampire movies or which wire to pull for a bomb or how they "think" they are going to kill Max Payne. It is very funny and really adds to the greatness of the game.

CONTROL
The control in Max Payne like I said gets some time getting used to but is supposed to be for gamers who are used to PC games where they used a Keyboard and Mouse.

GAMEPLAY
This game could not have been as good if Bullet Time was left out. For those who don't know Bullet Time is when the action in the gameplay slows down and you take control of the situation by shooting in slow motion. It is great and is like the movies THE MATRIX and THE ROUND. The Gameplay in Max Payne seems like non stop action that will make you want to beat the game over and over again.

OVERALL

Overall, Max Payne is a great game with awesome gameplay and I am looking forward to MAX PAYNE 2. (title most likley to change)The game is good but not perfect, the non stop action of single player is enough to shell out 50 bucks for the game but other gamers might feel left out because there is no online play, multiplayer, or cooperation play. Maybe in Max Payne 2 everything I just said will be added.

Max Payne dishes out the pain!

This game is awesome and I'm not just saying that because of the bullet time.

GRAPHICS- The only thing I wished they changed is the look of Max Payne he's like this old dude, I guess they had to do that because the whole point of the game is that he's mad because the dudes killed his family but i still wish he looked cooler.

GAMEPLAY- Very good I don't know how they could do better.

BULLET TIME- As I said I would have loved this game even if they didn't have bullet time but it is an awesome feature. Oh and its not that hard to control.

STORY- It is really a cool story I just wish that he could kill the enemies in story mode, for example on the last level you are standing right in front of the biggest enemy in the game and you just let her walk away.

OBJECTS- The objects in this game are totally cool. The guns are awesome only I wish the sniper could lock on to people. The painkillers are really great idea they restore life and thats what they do in real life too which makes it a much better idea than health packs. Also a lot of stuff you see you can use, I only wish you could climb over fences.

MAX PAYNE VS. HALO- This is certainly a hard decision. The single game in Halo has many problems people drown those problems out because of the multiplayer. Max Payne has no multiplayer but the normal game makes up for that very easily, I still wish there was a multiplayer to it.

Pro's For Halo
*Greatest Multiplayer of all time
*Awesome vehicles that you can control
*Awesome human and alien weapons
*The visor was a good idea. It was a good excuse for seeing how much health you have unlike Max Payne.

Pro's For Max Payne
*Even better weapons
*Better story
*Much better single game than Halo
*Painkillers instead of Health Packs
*Bullet time

Con's For Halo
*Single game not better than Max Payne
*Flud (kind of alien thing you have to kill) is a very bad idea.
*Not the best story
*Awesome weapons but not enough of them
*Gets Boring

Con's For Max Payne
*No multiplayer
*No excuse for seeing how much health
*Max Payne is an old man

I personally like Max Payne just a tad bit better, but that may be because I like the urban setting.

Max Payne may seem like it has a flaws but no other game is better and has less flaws except maybe Halo.

I like it; but, it's really not all that....sorry

Basically, it's:

Go into a room, kill a guy
Go into another, kill some guys
Go into another room and kill some more
The comic/dime detective/noir tone gets old.
The Matrix "bullet time" is kind of an (...) saver. Has NOTHING on Halo. Man, that game can be played over and over and keep you happy.

This game has translated extremely well to the Xbox. The control scheme and button layout work wonderfully with the Xbox controller, a factor which surprised me. The graphics on this game are also top notch.

What really sets this game apart from other action games in the same genre is the use of "bullet time". For those that don't know, your character Max Payne has the ability to slow time down to a snails pace for when the action gets hectic, or you simply want to look cool kicking some bootay. Some may feel that this may get repertitive throughout the game, but I never get tired of this aspect.

What the game is really lacking is a good story. It begins decently but gets boring within the first act. Also, the cut scenes are rather weak as is the voice acting.

Unfortunately, this is not multiplayer, nor are their other options that set this version truly apart from its PC brethren. If you have the game for PC, it's really not worth picking up for the Xbox. But, it is definitely a top notch rental for those who haven't played it before.

I should warn you against buying this game. It's not a short game by any means, however it doesn't offer much resistance against finishing the game within a five day rental. And after finishing it, it might just sit on your shelf for a while. Good game, good rental, but poor replay value thus making it only a mediocre purchase in my opinion.

Game that makes you want to play all night

All I need to say is this game kicks [rear].

Yes, the graphics are awesome. The story line is one of the best that i have seen after years of playing computer games. And the action never ends. Right when you wonder where the action is, suddenly you can find yourself getting shot to bits.

The dialogue is awesome. tha parts where they use simlar to comic book blocks to help tell the sotyr aand show some dialogue is defiantly kick [rear]..

Although i have it for the PC, its still just as fun
