Great for young kids!!

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 3 / 3

I have children aged 9, 7 and 4: Monkeyball 2 is one of those rare games where all the children can play and have fun - even the 4 year old. The one player gaming is great fun for the older kids, and this game, like most requires better hand-to-eye co-ordination than that left in a 43 year old Dad. Yes... the kids do like humiliating their father - but in the multi-player mode this game comes into it's own and even Dad has a chance!

You can play tennis, billiards, fly, fight, etc etc. All the games are either turn based or split screen. None of them are particularly difficult, but they are wicked fun! I have to confess to have been playing MB2 with the kids, way after their bed times.

The only down-side, is that to get all the multi-player games, you have to "unlock" them by reaching certain levels/goals in the single-player game. This means that we had to spend hours in the one player game before we could really enjoy all this game had to offer. If the games were accessable at the start, I would have given this game a 5, instead of a 4 out of 5.

Bottom line, if you have a Game Cube and Young Kids - Buy this game.

OK, I'm a mom and not really into the whole gaming thing... but when my son received his new gamecube and several games for the holidays, I decided to try my hand at a couple of them. He and I laugh SO hard while playing this game that we giggle ourselves silly. This is a great non-violent game for the whole family to enjoy (even moms who aren't great with the controllers!).

Great game with loads of replay

Super Monkey ball 2 is rated E for everyone and lets put it this way everyone I know young AND old loves to play it. The game play is simplistic and yet addictive. Simply tilt the platform and let "gravity" roll the ball containing the monkey through the course. Sounds simple huh ;0) well the levels get progressively harder and harder with some levels leaving you on the edge of your seat as you try to navigate.

This game really comes into full effect as a party game when your play multi-player on it's mini games Bowling, Pool, Golf, Racing, Flying etc. buy this game invite some friends over and spend a night laughing howling and crying ;0)

My Wife and I play the origional Super Monkey Ball almost every day. We beat all the levels and opened up all the mini-games ages ago, but still find ourselves drawn to play this game day after day. If you have never experiences the origional go buy it now, It will give you a couple of weeks playing time before you hop in line for this one, and I guarantee you will.

If you liked Super Monkey Ball...Don't get this!

I got totally addicted to Super Monkey Ball (SMB) and I loved it.
I played the single player story mode game, and never really got
into the party games.

The one thing I didn't really like about SMB was those 60 second
challenge levels. Half of the time they're way too easy, some of
the time they're ok, and every once in a while they're so annoyingly
hard that you swear if you hear that guy say "FALL OUT!" one more
time you're going to smash your gamecube.

You can imagine how I felt when I realized that SMB-2 is nothing but
stage after stage...after stage of those stupid levels!
No more rolling around, exploring at your own free will, and figuring
out which little puzzle to solve next.
This game is fed to you in +/-60 second chunks that will annoy you!

Oh yeah, and every so often, you get to watch episodes in this disjointed
and useless story.

In conclusion, I never play the party games, but I hear SMB-2 is worth it
if you like those. If you like the single player story mode, don't bother!!

Monkey Ball 2 is a family game that will build extraordinary eye hand coordination as you progress through it. Exciting, fun, and challenging the story mode's storyline will keep you motivated to improve your skills and get to the next event. Graphics, simplistic control, beautiful animations, and the ability to keep your eye hand coordination sharp are all excellent reasons to give this game a try. Play this game with your family in story mode and you'll be surprised who is solving which puzzles?

My child loves it and I (the adult) love playing with him. Graphics are really good and the game is even challenging for adults.

Note to the makers:
Please take out the locked games!

I was expecting this game to be easy but it wasnt ' i think sonic team at least shouldve added a handicapp mode on story mode where it gets easy but instead they didnt ' the levels are just to hard and annyoying and walkthroughs make it sound like the game is easy when its not

Now the Monkeys are SINGING!

The first time you pop Super Monkey Ball 2 into your Gamecube and start up Story Mode, you may get disturbed. Very disturbed. See, Sega has implemented a plot this time, in which AiAi, MeeMee, Baby, and GonGon have to stop Dr. BAD-BOON and retrieve all their precious, delicious bananas. Ummmm....OK. Whatever you say, Sega! The monkey-voices are cute and kinda creepy at the same time, and when they sing their Ei-Ei-Poo! song....you get the sense that there's something..well, just WRONG.

But does this mean the game's a disaster? Oh no. Quite the opposite. Not only is it one of the Gamecube's best games, it's one of the most well-designed, well-playing games of the last couple of years.

The basic premise of the game (insane plot aside) is to roll your ball-enclosed simian through a series of often insanely difficult obstacle courses, collecting Dole bananas along the way. The aforementioned Story Mode is split up into four themed worlds, and you're treated (in a manner of speaking) to a cut-scene that advances the bizarre plot. You can continue as many times as you like, and tackle the ten puzzles of each world in any order - a godsend during the brutally tricky later worlds. And yet, as you witness your monkey plunge to his death for the thousandth time, you always feel that success is there for the taking. In fact, the puzzles are so deviously designed, the solution is often much more apparent, and much simpler, than it would appear. Frankly speaking, the level design of Super Monkey Ball 2 is the best ever seen in the puzzle genre (and some of the best in ANY genre). The feeling when solving a difficult course is one that's becoming rarer in gaming.

Luckily (so to speak), you can avoid the Story Mode altogether and take on the puzzles by themselves in Challenge Mode. Choose from Beginner, Advanced, and Expert stages, much like the first game. However, you'll have limited lives and continues initially, and you can select any monkey, whereas you can only use AiAi in Story Mode.

As you progress in Story and Challenge Modes, you're awarded Play Points, which you can then use to unlock one of six mini-games. There are twelve altogether, and the six original games from the first game are available right away (Race, Fight, Target, Bowling, Billiards, and Golf), but in evolved forms. For example, you can make the lane curved in Bowling, or race against up to eight opponents in Race. The six unlockable games are Boat, Shot, Dogfight, Baseball, Tennis, and Soccer. These twelve games are all huge fun with friends, and make Monkey Ball 2 an attractive package when teamed up with the single-player mode (in which you can also use Play Points to buy extra lives or continues...and you'll need em).

Control is the same as before, using the analog stick to tilt the floor, and the audio is practically identical, but the graphics have undergone a major upgrade. The backgrounds of the levels are staggeringly gorgeous, ranging from waterfalls to the insides of volcanoes and a whale (really). They're so beautifully animated that you can't help but be in awe. It's a far cry from the relatively static levels of Monkey Ball 1, and rank among some of the best visuals on the Gamecube. Of course, there's no slowdown or draw-in to be seen. The animation of the monkeys is absolutely endearing and flawless. Sega knows how to program, and this is one of their best-looking titles to date.

Super Monkey Ball 2 is a fantastic game for one or for many. Credit Sega and Amusement Vision for not just releasing a rehash - the puzzles are more kinetic and involved. Some might argue that the original game is a purer experience, but the creativity evident in the sequel's puzzle design cannot be denied. If you liked the first, you'll love the second. If you didn't like the first, there's enough differences here to warrant a look. But it's still monkeys in balls, and it'll still tie your thumb(s) and brain in knots - a good thing! Plus, if you're looking for a great party game, your search is over. Super Monkey Ball 2 is a true throwback with its brilliant and clever game design, no-frills gameplay and high difficulty (although overall it's not quite as hard as the original game), but a true modern game with its marvelous visuals and unlockable goodies. To date, Super Monkey Ball 2 is one of the top five console games of 2002.

But beware - you may catch yourself singing EI-EI-POO!

Very, very, very fun

I must say that I was a huge fan of the first Monkey Ball and it provided hours upon hours of glorious fun. That game pleased me greatly. Then I finally found a copy of the second game, and it is all that the first delivered multiplied 10 times.

Not only did they improve the great games that were in the first one, but they added six more! We used to play bowling and billiards for hours on the now boring Monkey Ball One (boring compared to number 2), now there is special bowling and 4 types of pool! It's simply wonderful. Let's take a look at the break down of each part of the game.

MONKEY RACE - This is much improved from the first game but I would still rather put in Mario Kart or another racing game, it can be fun though

MONKEY BOWLING - Fabulous fun for hours. Special mode adds a whole new exciting twist to bowling. Very fun.

MONKEY BILLIARDS - Also very fun. You can now play, in addition to the original 9 ball, Japanese 9 ball, 8 ball, and rotation. It has a great western setting with good background music.

MONKEY TARGET - I'm not sure if I like this one better than the first monkey target. It is harder to control. But, you can use up to 5 balls at once. WOO HOO.

MONKEY SHOT - Very, very fun. It is just like playing an arcade shooting game where you fly around and shoot things flying around and shooting at you. It is very exciting.

MONKEY BASEBALL - A goofy twist on baseball, it is too easy to play against the computer but can be very fun when playing against another human.

MONKEY SOCCER - This game must only be played against another human because you will get very frustrated against the computer, but when you do play two player, you will have hours of fun I guarantee it.

MONKEY TENNIS - This could be better. It is ridiculous how hard it is against the computer, I can only beat it on the easiest setting. You can play doubles against the computer which is pretty fun. This isn't my favorite party game.

MONKEY DOGFIGHT - This is quite fun, but it is also quite easy. You just fly around and lock your missile on the opposition and it hits 'em every time, there's little chance of escape. Although easy, I've played it for hours with my friends.

MONKEY BOAT - Monkey boat is kinda lame actually. You get very tired pumping the L and R buttons back and forth and it is very hard to win a race. With practice, you can get decent, and it goes from sucky to subpar.

MONKEY FIGHT - Monkey fight is so basic but one of the funnest of the party games. This one has some new items and options and it is great grand good fun. Such a simple game but a bucket of fun.

MONKEY GOLF - Much, much, much improved from the golf in the first game which was played like one time at my house but it was pretty lame. This one is actually golf, it is funner, but, I would rather play Mario Golf any day.

The creators have also added a story mode which is quite silly but adds another fun aspect to the game. YOU MUST DEFEAT THE EVIL DR. BAD-BOON!

This game has even more levels and these ones are much more challenging than the ones on the first game, some of which were pretty tough. This game will provide you with hours of fun. WARNING! If you want to hold on to your social life and doing things outside your home, don't buy this game. But if you want hours upon hours of monkey-fun, Find it somehow and buy it right away!
