I know what your thinking, another cute nintendo game for the kids, obviously you didnt play last years awsome pre-quil. Dont worry though, the game isnt to hard the grasp, it is pick up and play after all. The game works like this, a monkey in a plastic ball on a crazy corse, sounds easy right, well no. Imagine marble madness with even more difficult corses, faster speeds and you control the ground, not the marble, yikes. Sounds difficult, well it is but thats not the point, even if you die over and over again you'll have too much fun in between to want to quit. I wouldn't mind buying this game just for that but they have multiplayer games so good, I could see myself buying them induvidualy. With such games like monkey fight (you fight), monkey race (you race), monkey flight (you fly), monkey boat (you boat), by now you can tell they are solid games just with monkey in the name and game. All in all there are 12 games, unlike the last game all the mini games are realistic, monkey golf plays like hot shots, monkey pool is an awsome game of nine ball, and monkey dog fight is like air combat. So why would you not buy this game? You would or your insane, a solid 4, later

Super Monkey Ball 2 is a weird but surprisingly fun type of game. Unlike Super Monkey Ball 1, this game offers more levels, more party-games and more fun.

Single Player: After the first series of about 3, some levels are VERY difficult and must be completed with COMPLETE SKILL. Others however, look complicated, but are very simple. For example, the one with bouncing triangles can be accomplished by just completely running through it. You will dodge all the triangles and beat it in a jiffy. I can't beat 2 on the fourth for fifth one and thats made me stop completely. Overall, it is okay, but you need to very good at it to complete some levels. 4.5/5

Multiplayer: Thats what super monkey ball 2 is all about. There are 12 party games in which half can be unlocked with a series of play points (2500). The games include Monkey Race 2, Monkey Target 2, Monkey Golf 2, Monkey Billiards 2 and Monkey Fight 2. There are 6 other unlockable ones. Unlocking the party games is quite challenging and you will have a long time playing it. There is a wide variety of family games that will keep you busy for hours! 5/5

Sound: Great, doesnt bother me, suits the levels perfectly. 5/5

Controls: Most are easy 1 or 2 button games where you use the controller a lot. Fairly easy to learn. Learning Curve: about a half hour. Very good and easy to learn controls 5/5

Loading times: almost instant, very good loading times 4.5/5

Reply Value: 5/5 This game is very fun and addicting and will keep people of any age busy for hours.

Other: This game may be a little too young for a few people. This is definetly a family game. Limited single-player. You have to beat the series one by one by one etc.

Overall: 4.75/5 VERY good game i recommend it to anyone who has a Gamecube and likes a variety of games in one.

The Monkeys are Back! Once again, inside the balls!

For those of you who haven't yet played Super Monkey Ball and have no idea what can it be about, here is a short explanation: The most fun and best party-puzzle game in the Nintendo Gamecube in which you get to control between four monkeys trapped inside a transparent ball. But the difficulty of it comes from what you really control: The floor. That is right!! You have to move the floor to be able to move the monkey. In other words, you move the floor not the monkey.
Now the sequel will arrive on august 29, 2002 (yep, the same day of Super Mario Sunshine) and it is looking awesome. First of all, the game has now a great story mode in which you will have to roll your monkey to defeat the bad Dr. Bad Boon. The game will also feature the old mini-games (the old mini-games with new features and options) plus 6 new ones (Dog fight, Monkey Tennis, Monkey Soccer, Monkey Rafting, Monkey Baseball, and Monkey Shoot out). It is a complete party game!!

A game for babies? Think again!! This game will start easly enough for you to practice for the real challenge. The more you advance, the more difficult the game gets (just as any other game would). But sometimes the difficulty will be so high that you will NOT pass it without enough practice. In other words, the game can get IMPOSSIBLE!

If you want a fun, but challenging game you should definately buy this game!Or if you want a party game before Mario Party4 comes out, then this is the game for you!

great game

This is a great game with little flaws. If you liked monkey ball than you will like the sequel. One problem I had was that in story mode, many levels are almost impossible to beat and are extremely frustrating. The thing that makes the game so great are the mini-games. With all of the mini-games from the original (race, fight, target, bowling, golf, and billiards) unlocked already and many others (soccer, baseball, shot, boat, tennis, and dogfight - my favorite) to play, the mini-games bring endless hours of fun with friends or by yourself. Monkey ball 2 has made a big improvement over its awesome predecessor.

I bought this game because it was packaged as "Players Choice" and that it allowed up to 4 players to play together. My 5 year old son started playing it with my 12 year old daughter - for hours. Then my husband got home and he got in to it. Then after my son went to bed...my daughter and husband battled it up for hours. My husband told me, with a sheepish grin, that the game is pretty addicting...as he ran back to play some more.

A nice upgrade from Monkey Ball 1

This game is much like Super Monkey Ball (1) which is a great game for a group of people or for the solo gamer. A lot of improvements from the original including a story mode with loads of levels some of which are so challenging you'll need luck on your side!

Many methods of gameplay in this game. Story mode and the regular game are "Marble" games, where you navigate your ball (monkey inside) up and down ramps, across narrow paths, across hazards eventually making it to the goal. It gets harder and harder with each new level.

In the party games section there are LOADS of extra games compared to Monkey Ball 1. You'll be pleasantly surprised if you have played 1 before. The same games as before but extras such as "Dogfight", boat racing, tennis, and much much more to unlock and play!

It also has my favorite "Monkey Target" on this one as well, which is a game of flying your ball and closing it in time to hit targets below for points. The thing is, in 2, monkey target became even that much better... In this game, you can play 5 balls at once (if you are playing alone) or you can play 2 balls each with 2 players playing AT THE SAME TIME! (Fight for the bananas and objects in the AIR!)

I definately recommend this game.

It's not hard to believe that with the success and relative genius of the first Monkey Ball game that Sega would want to kick out a sequel as quickly as possible and this time it's paid off with Monkey Ball 2 for Game Cube. These characters are quickly becoming a part of what make Nintendo game systems so great. The focus being on fun rather than complicated controls. Although, there is quite a bit of technical skill required to advance in the game the fun can be had even if you aren't a master. Some of the best parts of this game are derived from the original and includes more party games and mini games. Now enjoy Monkey Tennis, Baseball, Soccer, and many more as well as added features to the mini games you already love from the first one, like Monkey Billiards' new 8 ball setting and Monkey Bowling's crazy lanes. This game is great. The only stupid (and I mean really stupid) aspect of this game is the story mode. Entertaining, yes, but cool it is not. The story mode itself is very fun and has amazing graphics and an okay plot, however, that little power rangers-ish chant they characters go through every time they move to a new level is just DUMB. Despite this annoyance Monkey Ball 2 is wonderful and will provide many many many hours upon hours of game play to master and explore all the intricacies of the game. Enjoy!

So dose MB2 live up to the original? Oh yes! The main game has been given a whole new makeover, making not only blanance the key to completing the stage, but timing and puzzle solving as well. Story mode is an intresting new add on, but just be prepared to die over and over again as you attempt to get your monkey to the goal.
As for the multiplayer, the original six have been revamped, including a new way of playing monkey target, new areas for race and fight, full golf instead of mini-golf, new ways to bowl including crazy lanes, and the option to play 8-ball or strait pool besides just 9-ball on billards.
plus there is some great new games as well. Boat race lets you show your skills at rowing, monkey shot lets up to 4 people play an arcade style target shooting game(very fun), a monkey dogfight game(what more can you say about that), and three sports games including soccer, baseball, and tennis. The sports games are not incredible, but fun none the less. Its just monkey tennis compared to mario tennis kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth. But all in all, a great and very fun game! I highly reccomend it to anyone who love party games, cause this is certianly one of the best!

Unique, endless fun from Sega

At a glance, Super Monkey Ball appears to be a big, blind step right back into the childlike atmosphere that nearly killed the N64. Graphics are cute and cartoony, the characters are sticky sweet and actually perform singing and dancing numbers, and the music is straight out of the days of Sid and Marty Krofft. Superficially, this looks like everything Nintendo did wrong in the last four years all rolled up into one big stinking package, and as such serves as an immediate stumbling block, right out of the gates. But I'm here to warn you; don't let that immediate impression fool you. Behind that childlike facade lies an intensely addictive puzzle / party game that's just biding its time, waiting for a chance to invade every aspect of your consciousness.

This is a party game in every sense of the word, assimilating the best elements of nearly every multiplayer title in video game history and defecating upon the bad. Then again, it's also a unique, imaginative one-player puzzle game that's eerily reminiscent of Tetris in its horrifyingly addictive gameplay. It functions marvelously, whether you're surrounded by friends or stuck alone on a Friday night.

Despite varying wildly in theme, each aspect of the game comes down to one consistent factor; you're in control of a tiny monkey, inexplicably captured within the confines of a translucent hamster ball. The world is yours to explore freely, so long as you remain within this plastic cage at all times. It's ingeniously ridiculous, mixing our comedic love of monkeys with our natural fascination with those big, American Gladiator-esque hamster balls (and, perhaps, the end result of smacking one across the room while something is still trapped inside.)

In the one-player "story mode," things move quite linearly. When the storyline reaches a standstill (for example, the heroic monkeys and the evil Dr. BadBoon are swallowed by a whale), the four heroes perform a horrendous song and dance number, signifying their understanding of what must be done, and the screen shifts to a stage select menu. Each stage carries with it ten maps, and each must be completed before the story can move forward. You don't have to complete them in any sort of order, so if you're having trouble with one particular map you can concentrate on one of the other boards, and take a break from the difficult level.

It's at this point that the game puts on the first of its many hats, acting as a sort of messed up, first person, 3-D version of the old board game "Labyrinth." Never are you actually in complete control of Aiai himself, instead you're tilting the entire plane of the level itself, and his hamster ball is merely succumbing to the forces of gravity. The learning curve is almost flawless, as each progressive level builds upon the skills you discovered in earlier conquests.

Truly, the only real problem I have with the single player mode's gameplay is the terrible, automatically controlled camera angles. For a game that requires such absolute precision at times, it's almost unheard of to overlook the option of a player-controlled camera angle, and it's something that terrible wounds the enjoyment factor of Super Monkey Ball 2. The entire experience resembles a sickly, drunken dance, as you struggle to both reach the goal in time and maintain a course that won't confuse the camera.

Fortunately enough, this problem is exclusive to the puzzle section of the title, and doesn't affect any of the available party games. Yes, there's more to this title than the immensely enjoyable rethinking of "Labyrinth." In addition to the single player and multi player versions of the puzzle game, Super Monkey Ball 2 includes twelve distinct mini games, each of which can be played alone or with three friends. Each mini game is merely a rehashing of a title you've likely played before, yet slightly tweaked and respun so as to provide a fresh, new experience.

On the whole, the mini games are very well done, and boost the replay value of the disc exponentially. I completed the single player mode in roughly seven hours, but I don't think my fiancée and I will ever get sick of competing with one another in a quick game of arcade-style golf, baseball, bowling or billiards. It's a tremendous addition to a game that would otherwise be forgotten after the first completion.

As far as the music goes, I'll say this; you won't be rushing out to pick up the official soundtrack. It's a collection mindlessly looped tunes, ranging from surreal ambience to bouncy cartoon themes. It fades into the background easily enough, which is all you can really ask for in a puzzle game, and at the very least fits in with the theme of each particular level.

The graphics do their job... not breaking new ground with their beauty, but at the same time not spoiling the entire game with their horror. Chances are, if you're buying a puzzle game for its graphics, you're buying it for the wrong reason. Visually, this is a title that could've flown just as easily on the PlayStation One or N64, but the depth and mini games that really make it such a success would've had to take a pretty significant cut. In short, the graphics neither help nor hinder this one.

Put cleanly and plainly, if you're the kind of person with even a passing interest in puzzle games, this one is worth a peek. It successfully matches the uniquely addictive atmosphere that surrounded Chu Chu Rocket, all the while blazing a path all its own. It's remarkably easy to learn, yet the early stages never really seem to border on redundancy. I'm proud to admit this game's in my collection, and I'd be more than comfortable with recommending it to my friends, despite its misleading exterior.

In a gaming world dominated by big names such as Halo, Half Life, Warcraft, and Final Fantasy, the Monkey Ball series provides players with a new meaning of fun.

First off, it is an easy game to pick up play. Similar to Katamari Damacy, you don't have to be a gaming master, or "gosu" as people call it, or devote hundreds of hours to hardcore practicing to play the game at a competent level. In fact, the beauty of Super Monkey Ball 2 is that you don't have to be good at all and you'll still enjoy it. This game is undoubtedly harder than Super Monkey Ball 1, but learning is part of the process to any game.

The main part of the game itself consists of you having to maneuver your way through different courses and worlds to reach the end, while collecting secrets on your way to "beating" the game. Those secrets range from unlocking new multiplayer games to obtaining new music. Besides that, there is a plethora of party games that can keep children and adults alike entertained for hundreds of hours.

All in all, this game is just plain fun. The game tries to keep cutthroat competition at a minimum and makes it enjoyable for everyone.
