Super Monkey Ball is THE most addictive game for Gamecube right now! Forget Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey ball has next to unlimited replay value! You have a few differnt modes like single player, muti-player, mini-games, and party mode! A great puzzle, party, wacky, addictive game! Get this one before you get any others!

The title of this review doesn't describe the actual game...it's what I end up saying at about 3:30am after playing it for 5 hours...this is one of the most addictive games I've ever played..it's like Tetris. It looks simple, almost stupid, but once you start, you're hooked. It's cute, vividly-bright colors are definitely Sega-esque, but it really gives you that Saturday-afternoon fun kind of feeling... The LEVELS in this game are unreal...the expert level has 100 levels, I got to 4. Level 4. Out of 100. And I play videogames a lot. So, if you're up for a challenge, there is PLENTY here... While the game itself is fun, there are 6 minigames within, like Racing (just like Mario kart only better), Pool, bowling, and 3 others...honestly, the mini-games are just as much fun as the regular game, but you can play up to 4 people in the mini-games, and that's when this game REALLY gets fun...for the price, this has to be one of the best value video games on ANY system...the most bang for my...bucks...Take my advice though, no matter how hard it is, cut yourself off after 3 hours, otherwise you start thinking about how throwing your Gamecube onto Rt. 495 :)
A Pleasant Surprise

I was afraid when I first got this game that it's replay value would not last. It was one of the first games for the gamecube and that had me worried. Plus C'mon. It was a monkey in a ball. But when I played it, I was pleasantly surprised. The main one player game is pretty difficult (the expert mode close to impossible sometimes). But it is still fun to try. But my favorite part is the variety of multiplayer games it offers to unlock. My family plays the monkey race and monkey fight all the time. I also like playing the billiards tournament against the computer (sadly admitting that I don't always win). When I am tired of grinding through some of my other games, I put in Super Monkey Ball and let the extra games take over. Without the extra games, this would just be a brief rental. But the simple fun of bowling, hang-gliding, and smashing your friends off of the screen with a large spring-loaded boxing glove keeps me coming back for more.
Superb, way more fun than I ever expected

When you first get a newly released game system, the initial catalog is always limited. I ended up with Monkey Ball as a gift, I wouldn't have picked it for myself. Turns out, it's my favorite game out of the whole lot! Addictive as all get out, superb controls, huge variety of game play modes, all of excellent quality. This is one of the few games that excels at both single and multiplayer. It's like having several really good games "rolled" into one. A winner in every respect, Marble Madness has nothing on this game. Highly, highly recommended.
Super + Monkey + Ball = Super Monkey Ball

If you were to take the classic title Marble Madness and stick monkeys inside those marbles, you would get this game. And boy is it just as addicting.
In Super Monkey Ball, you control a monkey incased in a transparent sphere and try to make your way towards the goal. The controls are a bit different from the classic MM, as you don't directly control the monkey, you tilt the board that you're trying to navigate. And while the single player holds up fairly well, the main draw of this game is the multi-player, more specifically the mini-games. This title includes six mini-games (three of which you have to unlock) and they include Monkey Fight, Monkey Race, Monkey Target, Monkey Billiards, Monkey Bowling, and Monkey Golf, the first three being the most addictive in my opinion. If you have three buddies, prepare to shelter yourselves from the rest of the world for days straight.
The graphics are good for consisting of nothing but monkeys and balls... and maybe some bananas too. Watching the monkeys dance in victory after every round is amusing though. The only sounds you'll be hearing are monkeys and announcers... which speaks for itself. At least the music is decent.
Overall, despite the game's title, this is a actually a great game that is made even better when you are playing with friends. And if you do grow tired of this game, well, there's always Super Monkey Ball 2...
Much better than i thought!

my dad got me a GameCube for christmas, and he got me 4 games along with it, Roge Squadron, Monkey Ball, Waverace, and Luigi's Mansion. The two i thought would be the worst, LM and SMB, turned out to be the best! i was especially supreised with SMB... i took one look at it and thought "you gotta be kidding me..." i thought it would be some ... kids game... but i ended up playing it all night! for lke 6 hours! as simple as the concept is it does not get boring to play. The mini games and party games are tons of fun too... this game has MANY parts to it that could almost be sold as separate games, like Monkey Fight (damn hilarious and fun!), monkey target, monkey race, money billiards, monkey golf, and monkey bowling (jeez, did they have to inclue "monkey" before ever game name?) Also i can see this game taking MONTHS of serious addiction to finish. Level 15 on advanced is rediculously hard for where it is in the game, as well as level 30 on advanced... haven't passed that one yet! And the funniest part is, that's only ADVANCED! there's the entire Expert mode, which has 50 levels, and almost right from level 1 it is difficult... I only got to level 7... only 43 to go (which are i'm guessing all MUCH harder too...) Someone email me if they've beaten it without cheating (is there even a way to cheat?) i will be seriously immpressed! Anyway, this is one of the best games out for GameCube right now, along with Pikmin and Luigi's Mansion. Haven't played Tony Hawk 3 or the biking one (forget the name...) but i expect they would be great too!
Looks can be deceiving.

The title of this review sums it up. Looks can be very deceiving. I was completly uninterested in ever playing this game. However, I went to the video store to rent a game for my new Gamecube I just got for Christmas and of course nearly everything was already out, except for this game. IT'S SO MUCH FUN! This game is endless! It's like having 7 or 8 different games all in one. The main game, like everyone says, is exactly like Marball Madness from the old NES. The mazes are hard and challenging. The beginner level has about 8 or so levels that are good learning courses. Then 30 on the advanced stages, and 50 on the expert. There is another hidden Master mode (rumored to have 80). I can only get past level 20 on the Advanced and level 7 on the Expert, just to show how much replay value this game does have. To add to this, there's a multiplayer game in this too. Either take turns finishing the levels, or pick five levels you like and compete with 1 or 3 of your friends to see who gets to the finish first. To add to all of that, there's Monkey Bowling (which we tend to spend most of our time playing), monkey billards, Monkey golf (it's like miniture golf....really hard, but fun), Monkey target (just started playing it, seems really hard but alot of fun as well, and last but not least Monkey race. Monkey race is exactly like Mario Kart, except the fact that they're monkeys.....in a ball. It has about 6 or 7 racing levels which get more and more challenging. You pick up objects to throw...etc,etc. It's alot of fun. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST WELL-ROUNDED GAMES I HAVE EVER PLAYED. I don't like too many one-player games, because I get bored of them after a while. And once it's beaten, it's really never played again. So I try to stick with the multi-player games like (my favorite...and it seems everyone elses) Super Smash Bros. Melee and now Monkey Ball. My wife and my friends had a great time playing this. We couldn't stop playing it. It's very competitive and heck of a lot of fun. There are only two downsides to this game.
1) The side games ARE smaller versions of something like Mario Kart, Bowling, etc. and you really do wish there were more levels and stages. (that doesn't mean that they get boring or are not fun. It just like everything that's good...you just want more. For Smash Bros....even though there's 13 more characters then the last game, I still wish there were more)
2) There's only 4 monkey's to choose from. I wish there were more. The antics get a little repetitive and annoying (especially Baby). Even though they're all the same, move at the same speed, etc. (baby's easier to control on the mazes though...since it's so small and crawls close to the ground).
Renters note: The mini games (Bowling, Billards, Golf) are all locked. You have to play a regular one-player game to unlock it. It won't work if you play with 2 or more people. You receive "play points" for every level you complete. You need 2500 for each mini game. For example on the beginner's course, if you play all 8 levels and beat them without continuing you get about 700 or so play points. Every time you lose all your men it stops the play point counter and tells you how much you have, and how much you need until you unlock it. Sounds lame, but it was really fun tring to unlock them. We just kept passing the controller around the room letting everyone do a level.
SUM-UP: Based on a quick glance, this game looks lame and completely unappealing. It's not. I had no desire to ever play it and I now love it. So if you're interested even a litte, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Rent it if anything. The first time you play, get a bunch a friends together. That's what makes it so much fun. It's one of the best multi-palyer games I've played. It's extremely well-rounded and promises that there is something for everyone....except if you really have a strong distaste for monkeys, and monkey's in balls for that matter. Why didn't they just use Hampsters? Makes more sense....I guess. ENJOY!
A GREAT GAME YOU WILL LOVE

Super Monkey Ball is a great game for everyone. In this game there are seven modes and you play as a cute monkey in all of them. There are four monkeys and they are always in a ball. In normal mode you tilt the stage floor so you can guide them to the goal(If you don't have a lot of patience you may not like this mode). Four pople can play this mode with only one controller. The other modes need more than one controller for multiplayer action. In monkey race you...well...race on six stages. In monkey battle you try knocking the other players off the stage with boxing gloves. In monkey target you hangglide onto a target to get points, the player with the most points wins. The next three games you must unlock by playing 1 player on normal mode, mokey billiard, monkey bowling, and monkey golf. Do not forget this game needs a memory pack if you want to save your game data. All in all I think you will like Super Monkey Ball a lot.
Addicting!

Super Monkey Ball is fabulous in so many ways....out of the box the main game is pretty frustrating and difficult, but as you play you find levels that once seemed impossible get easy, but there's always a new level of 'impossible'! In addition, there are so many other games to play - billiards, golf, bowling, a great racing game, a fighting game...there's literally something for everyone here. A deceptively simple concept, but an immensly satisfying game!
